1 Prologue I

Opening her eyes, Lilah got up. Her blue gem-like eyes reflected the light from the spaces passing through between the various woods on the ceiling she created using rags scattered here and there.

The chilly morning air passed through the gaps of the shack. Her little sister adjacent to her groaned in discomfort. Fixing the ragtag blankets to cover her a little better Lilah got ready to get out.

By the entrance of their shack, another lady was keeping watch. Though she seemed rather distracted and bored because of the uneventful night; she was drawing a picture on the ground with the bone knife she had on hand.

Lilah approached her saying, "It's time to change. Get some sleep, Lily."

Surprised, Lily turned her head and argued, "I am pretty sure there's still time before 3:00 am, Big Sis. You should sleep, I can take care of this, trust me."

"Don't argue, you still have school later. Rest, I am already well-rested. I am about to make preparation for a hunt later." She said sternly. Lily saw her big sis' eyes and she decided to follow what her instructions and crawled up to what they call a bed.

She passed the bone knife to her sister and with heavy eyes, she fell asleep on the hardwood flooring of their shack. Lilah watched her little sisters hugged each other and she decided to get out of the shack.

Underneath the starry skies, she momentarily shivered but soon got used to it. Living on the outskirts of Homeless Avenue has its own demerits.

It was cheap as they do not need to pay taxes and an apartment but it was uncomfortable. But she can't argue as she had no other way of leaving this place.

Getting to live was good enough and managing to have a roof albeit it being a makeshift one is much better than having none.

She looked at the pocket watch she had in her bosom and noticed the time to be 1:27 am it was still far from 2:45 am.

"I will see it for my eyes if this is true or not."

She had nothing to do and began sharpening the bone knife. The knife was not big, it was seven inches long and an inch wide, that is not counting the wooden handle. It was thin but durable and its sharpness was much more impressive than a knife crafted from steel.

It was a good item to have. Lilah kept it with her at all times, she only lets go of it when she rests. But even then, Lilah still has a spare that was half its size.

Lilah waited and with every passing minute, she grew restless but at the same time excited. She wants him to come, her ideas swirled inside her head and her fantasies grew.

And when 2:39 am came, it was like magic. From between the trees, a man wearing what seemed to be leather pants and a fairly well-kept shirt entered Lilah's line of sight.

His body may be skinny, his face may be roughed around the edges with scratches here and there, but he can tell that it was him. It was the same man, it was his father, George.

He left them when Lilah was seven; that was six years ago. Her mother died of overwork two years prior to the present time.

When George saw Lilah's figure he smiled and tears welled up in his eyes.

"Is that you, Lilah? Lilah!"

With great difficulty, he sprinted to her and gave her a hug.

"I'm sorry, Lilah! Father is sorry, please forgive! Please!" He bawled as he apologized.

But when his face was no longer visible his smile disappeared and only sounds remained. He held Lilah in his arms and 'inspected' the goods while doing so. He was crying from joy, but not because he finally saw his daughter that he abandoned.

It was because he finally found them, his ticket to escaping his debts.

[If I can sell them then I'll be able to pay my debts and I may even be able to buy some [Frika] once all is said and done. Thank you, daughter. For once, you will be useful to your father. It seems like your whore of a mother did good in the end.]

They were brought into this world thanks to his genes, they are his property. They are his that was his thoughts. And when he felt the hands of Lilah moving for a hug, he knew that she finally had her in her grasps.

But a sharp pain emerged from his side and this pain run through all the way to his abdomen and by the time he managed to push Lilah away, his entrails was already peeking out of his body.

"Y—you fuck—" His words were cut short as Lilah decisively stab him on the cheeks. The bone knife ran through from one cheek to the other.

"Shh, be quiet, you will wake up my sisters."

Blood splattered as he looked at Lilah in shock. He stared at her hatefully but also confusion. As he fell to his knees, Lilah's eyes gleamed in glee and her mouth curved into a smile!

"I know what you want, you planned on selling us to Slave Traders, right!? You wished to sell my sister and me to bastards and become their toy, right?"

George's eyes widened as he questioned, "Hao wid u!"

The knife was still stuck on his mouth but he still managed to ask such a thing. Lilah did not answer him and as she retrieved the knife out of George's mouth and looked at him with hatred.

She took a deep breath and instead of calming down her rage burned even further. The hardships they had to endure when this bastard left, the possible fate of her little sisters, all of it burst out like a dam and as George was dying Lilah took the chance to kick him down and mount him on his chest.

Grasping the bone knife with both hands, Lilah's eyes reflected her emotions and she began stabbing him on his face. She would miss the brain but she would stab him, wound him with all she got.

And when the bone knife slipped from her hands because of the blood she proceeded to punch him with all her might. She may just be a lass but her adrenaline drew strength from within. And even long after his death, Lilah still hit him. She heard something ring inside her head but chose to ignore it.

She scratched and punch until she was satisfied and when everything ended, George's face no longer identifiable.

It was then that she heard sounds from inside the shack and after realizing she had killed a human being, Lilah vomited what little thing she had in her body. But when she regained her sanity she looked at George's bloodied corpse, she smiled. She was relieved she managed to her sister.

Lilah heard rustlings from inside the shack. It would seem that one of the twins woke up. Lilah peeked from outside after cleaning her face. She parted the curtains that act as the door and she saw Lilith getting up.

Lilith, seeing her big sister asked, "What is wrong, big sis? You are crying."

Lilah showed a rare smile and said, "It is nothing, get back to sleep. Big sis is alright. It is but dust."

Reassured, Lilith fell asleep.

Lilah got out and looked at George's lifeless corpse. And as she spat at his corps. She checked his body and found a heavy dosage of sleep-inducing drugs!

Lilah rummaged around the back of the shack and found a rare sack. She covered George's body and then dragged him away to the woods, in a secluded place where no one wanders around.

And when she came back she made sure to go to a public bathroom and clean the blood away from her body. She had blood on her clothes so she discarded it. She wore the clothes she had brought with her.

When Lilah returned, she entered the shack and buried the blood that had spilled on the ground with soil. And after doing all that, she entered the shack. She rested on the side and checked the time, it was 4:32 already.

Then, she brought out a pocketbook, she read it again and cried. She managed to avoid the greatest regret of her previous life!

On the pocketbook's cover, it said, "For Lilah Willow, From: Lilah Willow."

It was a pocketbook she found two days ago in front of their little shack. She thought it was a prank and did not take it seriously. But she did check its contents and on the first page, the date was August 17, she found it on August 15

The contents of the first-page were as follows:

August 17, 695: It had been a long time since it happened, twenty years in fact; but I will never be able to forget that day when that man walked back to the lives of my sisters once again. It was the bastard who left us for dead, the man I once treated as a father walked out of the woods at 2:45 am and at the time Lily was the one in charge of the lookout. (I may be wrong about the time by a few minutes).

"The man came and my sisters who had been craving for a father figure welcomed his presence with open arms. I did not accept him, obviously; it was his fault mother died, he left us for another woman with all the savings we had with him, and so I wished to kill him time and time again, but I stopped myself thinking it was for my sisters.

"But I was naïve for trusting that scumbag, ten days after his arrival, he drugged my sisters and myself before selling us to slave traders. When I woke up, I was already being transported to some faraway place.

"I managed to escape as the caravan they used was attacked by a [Daemon] but Lilith did not survive the attack. She died by being mauled by a Daemon. Lily would die from starvation shortly after. This is the greatest regret of my life, I don't want to go through it as I did."

It ended there. The contents of the book was something she would normally ignore. But the pocketbook shows signs of having it soaked in tears.

She cried once when she read this book, her tears welled up after learning of Lily and Lilith's death. And once again she cried after avoiding such a fate.

In her own words, tears are not to be shed.

What are tears? Can it be eaten? Can it sustain your life? Can it help you hunt?

It is nothing but a hindrance!

Her personal code was not to show weakness. If she collapses because of emotions her sister will die soon after. In the current times, showing weakness will result in death.

They live in a savage world, where power dictates who gets to live.

Lilah raised her head and calmed herself down. This is the first step, and after confirming the contents of this pocketbook was true she began reading it in all earnest.
