Lunch wars
“Miss McCain?”
I felt a tap on my shoulder.
“Hello” tap, tap.
“Anyone there?”
I swear to God if this person taps me one more time I will rip their hands off.
“Tessy!!”
“Yeah, I’m up!!? I said shooting up from my seat. My teacher was standing in front of me.
“Are you alright? You look really pale?”
“Yes, I’m fine”
“Your mom is outside waiting for you, she says it’s an emergency, you’re free to go” He continued and kept looking at me like he is still not convinced.
“Yes, thank you Mr. Greggory” with all eyes on me I made a dash towards the door.
“Hey mom”
“Hi baby, how are you feeling?”
“Alright, never been better” she gave me a sad smile.
“You’re doing great honey, you forgot your medications, so I brought them for you, here take them now” Taking the bottled water from her I took the pills in my hands and popped them in my mouth. I heaved a sigh of relief.
“Thank you”.
“You are welcome honey”.
“I will see you at home” I said giving her a hug.
The lunch bell had already gone off. I made my way towards the cafeteria, I saw Cherry waving me over, and walking towards her table I forced everything inside of me not to look at where the twins sat.
“Hey, what was that all about? Did your mom need something?” Tyler asked as I took a seat between Cherry and him.
“Yeah, she wanted asking me something important don’t worry about”
“You really don’t look good. Are you sure you’re alright?” Elsie said touching my arm.
I nod my head in response. The chair scraped in front of me and to my utmost surprise, I saw Skyler making herself comfortable.
“I never got a chance to thank you for the other day” she said to me.
“Don’t worry about it, I didn’t do anything”
“Oh but you did, apart from the boys no one has ever stood up for me, so thank you” she gave a respectful nod towards Elsie and Tyler.
“You don’t talk that much do you?” Elsie asked.
“I’m not comfortable with people, they think I am weird”
“Yes, that’s true, but lucky for you we are too” Tyler said with a grin.
“There is a party that will be going on tonight, do you guys want to come?”
“Whose party and what are they celebrating?”
“Liam’s birthday party, he said his parents are out of town so he has the house to himself. We haven’t been hanging out for a while, this will be a great opportunity” Elsie added. She is right, we haven’t bonded that well since the school fire, and the sickness and all. I really do need a break plus I haven’t attended a party before and that is number one on my bucket list. Yes, I have a bucket list. I’m going to die soon anyways. I have got to make the most of my time here on earth. I looked up and shot a smile at Skyler.
“I will go if she goes”
“What? Me?” she looked surprised.
“Yes, you”
“I don’t know”
“Oh come on, don’t be a sour pup”
“Fine”
Elsie and Tyler give each other a celebratory fist bump.
“Where are you going” the twins appeared from nowhere.
“A party” Skyler answered.
“Sweet”
“No” and that should be Nickolas.
“What?”
“I said no”
“Why?”
“Don’t ask me that, you know what can happen if you go”
“I want to go…you can’t tell me what I can and can’t do, I am going and there is nothing you can do about it, text me the address Tessy” she stood up and left.
Well that was awkward.
“She is right you know” I said before I could stop my big mouth from opening.
He brought down two hands on the table and leaned towards me.
“You should learn to mind your damn business”.
“Hey man back off” Tyler said shoving him away from me. Just as Nickolas was about to launch at him his brother held him back.
“Nate stop, what’s wrong with you?”
He suddenly stopped and looked at me. An emotion flashed across his face, I could barely register it. The whole cafeteria. He looked around, looked back at me and just left.
After the whole incident in school, I went home, Elsie came to my house later in the evening to prepare with me for the party. I wore a beige sweatpants and a cropped white strapless top. Wore a white vans to compliment my outfit. My hair was still in place or rather my wig, so nothing to worry about there.
