SOME TROUBLES IN COURT?

It's been over a month now since I became empress. All this time, it's been okay but I've witnessed so many beheadings that I now see them in my dreams. My maids complained about the nightmares to the emperor and thanks to them who told him without my consent, the emperor has been visiting my room lately.

Today's a cold day plus the emperor's behaving cold. For the first time, I'm gonna meet the emperor's family. I thought he never had one but today's gonna prove me wrong.

I was to behave like the empress I am. My maids dressed me up in a royal way. I took out my wristwatch and wore it. My maids were curious about it but I told them I was gonna give them later.

I don't know why but I was feeling happy and relaxed today. I was getting used to the palace life.

I came out and greeted the dowager empress but I got a mouthing response. Seems like she doesn't like the other members of the family.

When I was out of earshot I whispered to my personal maids. They were loyal to me and I was nice to them. I had already figured out the loyal ones from the rest.

"Has the emperor and his mother always been this way."

They looked at each other and one of them whispered back "Your highness, things like this are not to be said outside. We'll tell you full details when we are back inside." she ended politely and I nodded in affirmation.

I went alongside my maids to meet the emperor where he usually host his guests. It was then clear to me that the emperor isn't on good terms with his relatives.

I greeted him and I sat on one of the chairs. I already had my breakfast and we were expecting the visitors. We didn't wait long as they arrived.

Two tall charming looking men with three short ladies came down from the carriage. The ladies looked sassy and snobby but I was ready for any of their nonsense.

"The palace looks as usual." one of the men named Gu Fang commented as they entered the palace.

"It's been two years now since we came." the shorter lady replied.

Since the emperor didn't even welcome them I held my peace. As the empress, I'm supposed to support my husband. Did I just call him husband? Ish, irritating, though he's got the look but definitely not the attitude. Always putting me on spot.

I was pilled from my thoughts when I heard my maid whisper my name.

I asked annoyed, "Did something happen?"

"I'm sorry your highness but the princess was talking to you and you didn't respond."she whispered.

"Well that's her business." I whispered irritated.

"Well, senior brother your wife's sure rude. I don't think she's right to be empress. She's got no manners." Gu Fang said.

I was mad. How can someone just judge me without knowing me? I looked at the emperor but he's face was void of emotion but I could sense the slight anger emitting from him.

Before he could say a word, I retorted, "Says person who didn't show up at the wedding."

My statement took them unaware as they are clearly shocked. I think they thought I was the meek and timid type. They really don't know what they hit.

The other woman whose name is Li Fen suddenly asked, " Who said we didn't come?"

I glanced at the emperor and our eyes met and we both started laughing. My face was already getting red. I managed to control the laughter and looked at the confused faces around me and said, "But the shorter lady said it's been two years since you all visited or do you have another emperor?" I asked my face turning off cold.
