3 Ch 3: A Deal {Edited}

I roamed around for a while before finding the main building. This was a large area after all, so you couldn't really blame me for getting lost.

I climbed the stairs and opened the glass door, which revealed a quite pristine interior.

Cream coloured walls, wooden desks and expensive looking couches. The reception hall was very large, so thinking about just how big the rest of the building was kinda made me dizzy.

Some people from the handful that were present looked in my direction, staring at me.

I walked to what looked like the receptionist's desk.

"Excuse me, I have an appointment with Mr. David Moore. Can you tell me where he is?" I asked in a polite tone.

The woman, who was the receptionist, jerked her head up. She looked at me for a few seconds and replied.

"Oh, is that so? Can you please tell me your name?"

"It's Oliver Knight."

She immediately stared to check the papers on her desk.

"Oliver Knight, Oliver Knight... Oh, there it is! Yes, I remember Mr. Moore talked about you. Go straight and then take a left, you'll find a door with his name."

I nodded and followed the directions she gave me.

After walking for what seemed to be 5 minutes, I finally found the room Uncle was supposedly in.

I knocked 2 times, and got the response "Come in!".

I opened the door and slowly walked in.

Sitting infront of me on his chair was David Moore, the closest friend of my late father and also the person I wanted to sell my screenplay to.

He had pretty smal moustache, brown hair and brown eyes. He had a large, grey beard. He looked to be in his late 40s, and was wearing a suit too.

He had a deadpan stare, which changed as fast as the speed of light on seeing me.

"Oliver, my boy!" He got off of his chair and speed-walked towards me.

"Haha, I haven't seen you in such a long time." He said with a smile and hugged me, to which I hugged him back.

Even though this was technically my first time speaking or meeting him, he still felt familiar and gave off the aura of a father.

"How have you been? Need any help with your situation?" He asked.

"I've been fine. And you buying these scripts will help me immensely, so I don't really need any help." I politely replied.

"I see." He sat back in his chair again, and gestured me to sit on the chair infront of his. "Show me the scripts."

I placed a folder on the table and opened it, revealing a page with the name 'Night at the Museum'.

Uncle eyed the title curiously before grabbing it.

"This is an interesting title. What's the genre for this?" He looked at me for the answer.

"Adventure and Fantasy. Also a little bit of comedy." I replied nonchalantly.

Uncle David hummed a "Hmm" in response.

After some more questions like "Are you planning to direct this?", "Is this going to be a franchise?", "Will it even succeed?" etc. Uncle David FINALLY started reading the script.

A few hours later, he put the script down on the table and looked at me.

"It's an interesting premise." My eyes lit up at words that left his mouth. "However, it needs some rewriting." My hope immediately came crashing down. "This can definitely become big with children and families. I can it see it turning into a franchise too."

I became happy again. This was more than enough of a compliment, even if it was for a copied work.

"Will you buy it?" I curiously asked.

"Maybe. I still need to look at the second script too, so I'll make my decision based on how good that one is."

My mood went a little down, but I wasn't going to lose hope. Afterall, 'Ticket to Paradise' was an amazing movie.

I handed the script for 'Ticket to Paradise' to uncle David, and he started to read it.

...

{3rd Person POV}

3 hours later, David had finished reading the screenplay, and astonishment clearly shown on his face. He was clearly surprised at just how good this script was. And it came from his best friend's son to boot! Someone who was never interested in writing!

He could definitely see an old but popular actor playing one of the two main leads.

'This is way better than that Night at the Museum!' He thought.

His eyes moved onto the person sitting infront of him, Oliver Christopher Knight. The person who wrote the screenplay for 'Ticket to Paradise'.

David stared at Oliver for a few seconds before sighing and saying, " This is amazing. I can definitely buy this."

"What about Night at the Museum?" Oliver questioned.

"I'll buy that too. Now, let's negotiate the price, shall we?" He put the script down.

"Alright." He had a confident smile. Afterall, he was the only one who knew just how much this going to change this world.

...

{1st Person POV}

The scripts were sold.

And I was a very happy boy.

Currently, I was outside the main building, walking towards the exit of the Mount Sky Pictures exit.

I got $350K for 'Ticket to Paradise' and $420K for 'Night at the Museum'.

This means I currently had $1.18 MILLION DOLLARS! That's absolutely insane!

I had enough money to get started on holding an audition for 'Halloween' already.

And speaking of 'Halloween', it was surely going to get R-rated. Uncle David had asked me why I was selling scripts, so I decided to tell him about this.

[Flashback Begin] {1st Person POV}

Uncle David put the scripts in the drawer and looked at me with a curious gaze.

"Why are you selling me scripts? It's not like I don't know you mainly wanted to be a director - you've been talking about that since you were a child." He adjusted his position and continued. " And you never seemed like you were interested in screenwriting, at least you didn't talk about it."

He kept staring at me, waiting for an answer.

"About that... I- I want to direct a movie." Uncle's expressions changed to that of surprise.

"Direct? Why didn't you tell me before? Why so suddenly?"

"That's because I didn't want to, well, I guess burden you?" I said in a questioning tone. I didn't really have an excuse, so what was I even supposed to say?

"And I've been thinking about doing this movie for some time. I got the idea in University, hell, I have way more ideas that I want to implement, but I can't! I'm not that experienced and neither do I have the money for that, so I wanted to start with something that wouldn't be too expensive and be very successful."

"I see." He nodded along. "That sounds interesting. Mind telling me what the movie is?" He asked with a smile.

I smiled in return.

"It's a horror movie. A slasher, specifically." Uncle raised his eyebrows a little, but didn't say anything.

"It'll be called Halloween. As the name suggests, the movie will take place on Halloween night, 1983. A 6 year old named Michael Myers kills his sister, Judith, in a clown costume, and gets put in a mental hospital..."

Just like that, I explained the plot of 'Halloween' to Uncle David, and after the explaining was done. His opinions were -

"It seems pretty good. To be honest, I found Michael not being the focus to be quite odd, but very interesting. The kills seem very brutal. The screenplay begs the question if some supernatural force is in play here, because Michael survives being stabbed not one, but two times. And his surviving in the end also points towards it." Uncle David then took a breath. "All in all, it's fantastic for a horror movie."

While expressing his opinions on the screenplay, Uncle David kept smiling, clearly showing he was interested and even excited about 'Halloween'.

"I think this is a good first movie. Even if it doesn't blow up in the box office, it'll surely make you pretty popular among the critics."

"Yeah, I think so too. I needed the money, and I have it now thanks to you buying the two scripts." I glanced at the wall clock and looked at the time.

'It's already this late? Time sure does flyby.' I mused.

"Ah, will you look at the time. It seems to have gotten late. I'll take my leave then." I got off the chair and started walking towards the door.

"Hey, Oliver." I turned my face towards Uncle.

"I can become the producer of the movie, If you want. How about it? It'll make things easier for you."

'Seriously?! Wait, no. I need to think this thoroughly. It'll be helpful to have him as the producer, but I need the money from the movie to create more movies.'

I stood there for a while, before deciding on an answer.

"I really appreciate that, but I'll like to decline the offer." Uncle was visibly shocked for a moment before reverting to a calm expression.

"I see. But, if you need a distributor, tell me. I can hook you up with Red Fox."

'Red Fox? That Blumhouse-type studio? I really need that.'

"I'll make sure to." I replied and walked out of the room.

[Flashback End]

'Red Fox, huh?'

Red Fox Studios, a production house mainly known for horror movies was currently in a deal with Mount Sky Pictures who would distribute some of their movies.

Though, they didn't only have horror movies; they were also known for creating some of the most critically acclaimed films of this era.

They were basically a mixture of Blumhouse and A24.

I was definitely going to ask Uncle to help on the distribution part, even if I declined him as a producer. Afterall, I didn't want to waste time searching for a studio that would be willing to show my movie in theaters.

Now, I can finally start my career in filmmaking.
