5 A Surprising Revelation

After calming his turbulent mind, he spoke to the girl once again.

"What's your name?"

The girl snapped out of the strange feeling as she looked at him.

"Name? I..."

She thought for a moment, her eyes quickly wandering around the room before quickly responding, albeit hesitantly.

"...'daughter'?"

She spoke in a questioning tone, which puzzled Shuyun. It was as if she wasn't sure of it herself. He couldn't tell if she was joking with him or not. But her pure, green eyes, the darkest color of it's spectrum yet containing the purest innocence, convinced him other wise.

"Do you have any other name that people may call you?"

The girl once again paused.

She truly didn't know how to respond. Her mother had only ever called her by the name of 'daughter'. Although she may have not experienced interacting with other beings, her mother had told her that a mother and daughter was a relationship that was naturally named between that of the being who gave birth to a baby of the female gender. But, she had no other name. This was not because she did not want one, nor was it that her mother didn't want to name her, but she couldn't.

Her mother had always told her that she will one day receive her name from nature, just as her mother had received before. So, while she knew a name was a unique word that identified a person, she had never heard of one before. It was told by her mother that she wouldn't be able to understand her name until she herself was granted one by nature.

Shuyun clearly read the hints the girl was giving. It seemed to him that she had no name. Though he had found it strange, it wasn't odd to not be able to understand the new customs within a world completely unknown to him.

"Then, as I don't know to call you by the name of daughter, as it is reserved for your parents, would you mind I call you Meiying? My name is Shuyun"

The girl was slightly surprised. She found the word 'Meiying' to not be of her vocabulary.

'So that was what a name is…'

Unbeknownst to her, changes began occurring within her body.

Though the feeling of such a phenomenon was barely noticeable to her.

She gladly accepted the name, nodding as her eyes brightened.

Seeing as they have finally gone through basic formality, Shuyun thought it was set to understand the situation he was in. The body he was currently residing in wasn't that of his own.

"Meiying, how did I get here, and where did you find me?"

Already, he could tell she was of another race that wasn't human. Immediately, the possibility of them being related wasn't possible. It would mean then that he had either known her as a friend, or that she had found him. He was sure it wasn't the ladder, as even she didn't know who he was, given the circumstances. The only remaining possibility would have to be he was found. Taking in account the situation, and her caring for him, he could assume that this body was injured, much like how the body in his previous life was.

Meiyings eyelids flutter at the call of her name. It was an unusual feeling, she had never been called anything other than that of 'daughter'. It was not to say she was unhappy with what her mother called her, it was just that a strange feeling awakened inside of her the moment she accepted the name.

She took a deep breath before responding…
