The Dystopia In My Mirror

I have always been interested by antiques, so much so that I buy them no matter the cost even if I have to go into debt. An addiction? Perhaps. Folly? No of course not...well, at least until I bought THAT mirror. It drew me in with its ancient splendor and odd runes that no one could understand...drew me in...literally. Falling into the mirror and out the other side...oh, what would I find? -----

Lights Out

Being led by angel I jogged alongside her, definitely not mesmerized by her bouncing hair, and crossed the rather empty center space of the village. I noticed that my angel looked somewhat tense and worried, perhaps the time had gotten away from her due to enjoying my presence so much?

The sound a bell being beaten half to death rang out throughout the village and barely a single second later the dim light that was illuminating everything went out without a sound.

While this occurrence did beg the question of how exactly they were lighting up everything in the first place, the shivering angel next to me took up my full attention.

Perhaps I was just used to darkness, thanks to my severe insomnia, but I was able to vaguely make out everything that was close by me if I used my peripheral vision.

I could just barely make out the expression of fear on the adorable angel's face but I could definitely see her shiver and instinctively move close to me.

Such progress with our relationship was extremely pleasing to me, to say the least. Alas, as a principled man of extreme control and integrity I forced myself to ignore her warmth and instead focus on what exactly was happening.

"Little angel, what is going on?"

She reached out and pinched my nose and said in a whisper, "Willy the watchman spotted something and rang the alarm, which means the guards have come for tribute or the bloodsuckers have come again. Either way, its bad and either way you should shut up and be quiet. Also my name is Angie not Angel."

Trying my best to not whine in pain, as she was squeezing a bit too hard, I nodded in agreement.

Now walking slowly, angel continued to lead the way but I soon noticed that we were on course to just move in a giant oval shape. It seems that the ability to see in the dark is not within her skillset, how unfortunate. This was a great chance to prove my worth, further solidifying my image of being a wise and capable man.

Not wanting to speak and scare the poor girl, I instead extended by left arm and poked her on the cheek twice to get her attention so I could let her know of her folly. Now I know what you might be thinking, that I was just taking advantage of the situation, and to you I say: DUH.

Basking in the softness that I felt, I reflexively dodged the punch that was sent my way with one small movement of my neck.

Easily Dodged.

The gust of wind that brushed past my own cheek was quite telling of how strong her attack was...and is that blood? What the hell, she cut me with just the tailwind of her punch? Yikes, I will make sure to up my efforts in dodging when I mess with her again in the future.

Moving my neck back in place I was able to make out the fuming expression of my angel, who was holding her fist close to her chest and flexing her muscles. It seems she was deciding whether or not to punch me again, but alas she would never be able to finish that decision.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw a series of moving shadows, far too fast for a human when combined with how completely silent the movements were.

They were too far away for me to make them out, even with my godly night vision, but I was still able to make out a slight reddish reflection from what I assumed was the eyes of whatever I just saw.

"Hey Angel, do those bloodsuckers have red eyes?" I asked, hoping to hear a resounding no.

"Oh? You know them? I never thought that Other would have bloodsuckers too. They are so unpleasant you know, what with how they slowly encircle the prey under the cover of darkness. Slowly constricting the circle until it's too late to escape, then they pounce on you and well, as the name implies, suck all the blood out of the body of their pr-"

She was cut short as upon hearing her description I looked around and saw that we were in fact completely surrounded. All I saw was the flash of an eerie red light reflected again and again all around me, which prompted me to make a hasty decision. Such a decision, what cut her off in the first place, was me scooping her up in my arms in a princess carry and using all of my might to propel myself forward at breakneck speeds.

I was not as fit as the girl I was carrying, obviously. And I was indeed enjoying the situation that was at hand, obviously. However, there was still a good reason for my actions other than insanity, delusion, or enjoyment. You see, while I have absolutely no stamina I am still quite fast. Ever since I was little I was always able to have an impressive burst of speed whenever I desired, easily having the highest acceleration rate of any of my peers. I think it had something to do with the fact that when I was very young a hobo followed me around with a gun, shooting the ground behind me every now and then while telling me: 'Work those legs boyyyy'.

Either way, I am fast as fuck. Maybe its the universe not allowing anyone to be perfect or something, but my stamina runs out just as fast as I can run. But in the current situation I did not need a steady pace, just enough speed to make it to my destination before the noose was fully wrapped around my neck.

The angel in my arms tried to say something but all she received for her trouble was a mouthful of wind stealing her voice away and causing her to clamp it shut so she could breathe properly. Yeah, fast as fuck.

Seeing my destination, a giant hole in the ground that was surrounded by a small wooden fence, I used the last of my strength to leap forward and hit the ground as hard as I could which gave me just enough force to leap over the fence and down into the hole.

Landing on an incline as gracefully as I could for someone landing on their rear end, the force that I had built up from my running jump pushed me down the incline with decent speed...although the friction generated between my pants and the stone ground caused my rear to feel like it was being dipped in magma.

Eventually we reached the bottom of the incline and most importantly, far far away from those bloodsuckers.

In my arms, and now on my lap, was the angel who looked around to make sure that everything was over before smashing the back of her head onto my own forehead and standing up on her own.

Ah, it was fun while it lasted I suppose.

Her next move surprised me though, as she held her hand out to me in an act of trying to help me up.

Touched by the gesture, I reached my hand up and allowed myself to be pulled up by her powerful arms that easily brought me to my feet and then some.

My legs were a bit wobbly and my breathing rapid while the walls of the cavern I was now in looked like they were growing and shrinking at the same time, the usual result of me overexerting myself.

Angel could hear my labored breathing and feel how unstable I was and with a worried tone she asked, "Are you all right? Did they get you?!"

While I tried to save enough of my breath to tell her that I was all right, since there was no need to make her worry for no reason, she began to feel around my body for an injury.

The breath that I had just saved was held on for a bit longer all of a sudden. No, no, I was not enjoying her soft hands and smooth skin at all. I..I was just...okay even I can't think of an excuse for this one.

Eventually I just moved her probing hands away before she forced me to commit a crime, although in this weird reality I guess it wouldn't be considered that bad but I have morals okay.

"I am fine, just tired. I have always had extremely poor stamina since I was young, it's just how my body is," explained the one and only me.

"But you were so fast...even I can't go that fast even if I tried. I don't even think anyone in our village can go that fast. You said your name as john right? Are you sure that your name isn't Sam or Felix?"

Sam, Felix? Oh I see, its that naming convention again. Speedy Sam and Fast Felix, is that I am assuming is going through her mind right now. What a weird way to see the world...

"My name is indeed John, John Smith."

This caused her to chuckle slightly to herself, again, which made me wonder why my name was so funny once more. Maybe I will change it to something cooler in the future.

"Come along, we should find a place to hide until the bell is rung again. We are in the Cave That No One Returns From after all, if we stay in the open for too long who knows what will happen to us? Although it has been awhile since anyone has last gone missing in here, so what could possibly go wrong?"

What could possibly go wrong? Oh, I really want to hit this girl now. Good thing she is cute, else...WHAM...gender equality would finally be had on this day.
