Hourglass News

August 7, 10 UE

It has been 10 years since the 2nd Chaotic War and 10 years since the founding of Euqolia, a nation uniting all the races across the Pateria Continent. To commemorate the day, the council has released a message celebrating the day and details of a project to develop the next generation to face the problem described in the Prophecy of Genesis.

The representative of the spirit race, Amber Lumis, has told...

[3rd Person POV]

While everyone was celebrating by drinking an outrageous amount of alcohol, there were the cries of a baby deep in an alleyway. The baby was so small that he seemed no more than a day old. Lying in a small basket, the baby had a small pendant around his neck.

Hearing the cries of the baby, a passing nun quickly comes and picks up the basket.

"Oh my, who would leave a newborn on a day like this? Come with me, my little one, it must be fate for me to meet you here."

Holding the basket near her chest, the nun quickly returns back to an orphanage. Located far from town, the orphanage was clean and beautiful but at a closer glance, it seemed very old and has been repaired countless times.

Knocking on the door, the nun is greeted by a young nun and a group of young kids. One of the girls in the group, who had green eyes, brown hair and long pointed ears, looked into the basket.

"Sister, sister, are we going to have a new little brother?"

"Yes, Lorraine. Everyone come say hello."

The nun lowers the basket, and every child looked into the basket with smiles plastered on their faces. Each taking turns holding the small baby.

"Sister, why is he so small?"

"I don't know, perhaps he is a troll or some other race with small bodies."

After many other questions, the children take the basket inside to show their new family member their house, leaving the two nuns outside. After coming inside and sitting down, the younger nun, who had a worried face, spoke her mind.

"Sister Arielle, didn't I already tell you? This is the third one this month. Even if he is a cutie, we can't afford to raise any more children. It's not like we are the only orphanage in this area."

"Your such a worrywart, Lisa. Today, I felt as though it was fate that brought me to him. Plus in 2 years, it will be Jaque's coming-of-age ceremony. The little one can take his room when Jaque leaves. For now, I'll take care of him in my room. I promise this is the last one. The more the merrier!"

"*sigh* the more the merrier."

With her friend already making up her mind, Lisa, while shaking her head in defeat, watches as Arielle goes to give the little one a bath.

[Lisa POV]

'Man, that Arielle. Always being so positive despite being in this situation where we are barely able to make ends meet. She keeps making problems but worse, I CAN'T even do anything about it because she works hard to help these kids. I'm jealous of her sometimes for being a druid and being capable of using nature magic.

'sigh'

"At this rate, I'll get grey hair lightyears before her."

After realizing that I've been mulling around for too long, I get off my chair to go and make some dinner. After looking at our pantry, I decided to go outside and pick some vegetables from the garden.

"Large, green and juicy as always. As expected of Arielle!"

Coming back into the kitchen, I diced and placed the vegetables into a pot. Before lighting the stove with a simple fire spell and filling the pot using a water spell.

Soon a small blaze started under the oven and the pot, filled with water, was placed on top.

'At times like these, I'm happy to be human, having multiple different affinities.'

Soon dinner was ready and I called everyone to eat. One by one each of the children came out of their rooms.

"I'm huungry!"

"Slow down Ethan!"

"You can't catch me!!"

Ha ha ha

The small eager eyes and smiles of all the children bring a warm cozy atmosphere to the room. I smile too. I wish these moments could last just a little longer.

Author's Fun Fact:

A person from the human race typically has two or three elements from the basic 4 elements. Water, Fire, Earth and Wind. Other races have access to other elements such as druids having nature magic or demons having dark magic. Other than that, other races may only have one affinity but greatly specializes in it to the point where it's almost like a different element altogether.
