"It must have been nice for you to run off to your grandmother when you did not want to be around your parents. There was a tree I used to run to hide from my father, but it got cut down so I remained in my room," Alessandra said as they walked around the garden.
"I take it you don't have a relationship with any of your grandparents?"
"No. On my father's side, like everyone else, they stopped caring after my face was ruined. There was nothing about me to boast about to their friends so I was useless. I learned at a young age that my talent for painting or anything else did not matter. As a girl, my value was my beauty. I don't have any memories of my mother's parents.
