Chapter 31: Something about her

The two of them stopped what they were doing and looked towards my frozen self. Lucy had an embarrassed look on her face, while Amanda glared at me for interrupting them.

Shit! she looks so scary.

Her scary glare unfroze my legs and I quickly hurried out of the room while apologizing furiously.

Outside I leaned against the door, panting like I have just ran a marathon. My face was on fire. What the fuck is going on here. Is every assistant here fucking their boss?

I wished I hadn't seen that.

I shook my head severally trying to dislodge the image but it wasn't bulging. All I could see in my mind is Lucy spread out on Amanda's desk and Amanda thrusting into her.

The door rattled and I flew off it, with my heart flying into my throat as I turned to face whoever was coming out with a terrified look on my face.

I was expecting Amanda but when I saw Lucy my shoulders sagged in relief, which was quickly followed by a look of embarrassment as I recalled what I just saw.

Lucy herself was also finding it difficult to look at me.

"Amanda wants to see you."

Her words caused the blood to drain from my face. What is she going to do? Kill me so I don't talk. Throw me off her window to silence me?

"And what morbid thoughts are going through your mind right now?"

Lucy teasing tone made me turn to look at her to find her smiling softly in my direction.

"Just thinking of ways your boss will use to silence me so I don't speak what I just saw."

Lucy laughed softly. "You watch too much movies, Chanel. But I wouldn't keep her waiting if I were you," She warned in a very serious tone that made me look at her again.

She had a deadpan expression that terrified me, and got me moving.

"Yes, right, I am going," I stuttered nervously, but my feet refused to move.

You actually have to move your feet if you are planning to get to her office today.

"Yep. That is the plan," I mumbled again, but still remained rooted where I was.

"Hey, don't worry, she doesn't bite, unless you want her too."

Her cheeky tone, and reminder of what I am trying so hard to forget made me glare at Lucy.

She laughed and then gently pushed me towards Amanda's door. "Go you goof ball."

I opened the door and tip toed in.

Amanda looked more collected and like the exec she is.

I walked up slowly to her desk and coughed to get her attention.

Her head raised slowly as if in slow motion before I suddenly became the focus of her piercing green eyes. She looked totally different from the woman I met yesterday. Here she looked more commanding and stern.

"Did Malcolm want something?"

Her question startled me. "Huh?" I looked at her confused.

She didn't miss a beat and just repeated the question without looking annoyed.

"Did Malcolm want something?"

My brain already fried from my anxiety made my answer incoherent.

"No." I blurted out and then thought about the question again, and then quickly changed my answer. "Yes."

She raised a brow at my contradictory response making me blush.

"I am sorry. Yes, he wanted something. No actually, it is me that wanted something, but not from you, from Lucy."

My distorted, and nervous rambling brought out an amusing chuckle from the beautiful woman before me.

"Oh, you are sweet," she smiled, transforming her already beautiful face into something more captivating to behold.

I swallowed and made no response. I didn't know if she was paying me a compliment or scolding me.

"I am sure Malcolm is going crazy from your innocence." The look in her eyes changed briefly. A fleeting look of desire flashed through her eyes, and was gone in a flash.

Her words about Malcolm confused me, so is also the fact about me being innocent. I wonder if she will still think that if she knew what I did for a living.

"So what do you want from Lucy?"

The way this woman switches topics she is going to give me a whip lash.

"Details about the meeting she attended with Mr Valentine."

"In that case you can go."

Whew! I exhaled silently that she didn't talk about what I walked in on. I turned to leave and have just taken a few distance when her voice stopped.

"And Chanel..."

I stopped and turned back in her direction to hear the rest of what she wanted to say.

"Not a word of what you saw to anyone, not even to Malcolm. Lucy and I are taking things slow, and I don't want her to become the gossip of this place."

There was a note of protectiveness in her voice and a look of affection in her eyes when she spoke about her assistance.

I nodded, saying "I won't"  as well.

"Thank you," she said softly.

I nodded and turned to leave, slightly amazed that she thanked me.

When I came out Lucy was busy at her work station and I went to join her.

"Hey," I greeted when I stepped into the room.

She looked up, a warm smile on her face. "So you are alive," she teased.

Within this short period of knowing the brunette I have come to find out that she is naturally a warm person, always with a smile on her face.

"I thought you said I had nothing to worry about," I teased back.

"And you didn't. Amanda is good people."

I had the same note affection in her voice that I heard in Amanda's voice. It was good to know that the whole thing isn't one sided. I imagined Amelia and I being like them and then flinched visibly from the ridiculousness of the thought.

It is not possible. One she is married, and two she is married to a man, and I am not a lesbian.

"Are you alright?"

I snapped out of my thoughts and looked down at Lucy. "Yeah, just thinking of something."

"Whatever it is must have been terrible. You looked upset about something."

"Oh, it is nothing," I waved away her words, and at the same time I was questioning the reason I looked upset at the thought of things not working out with Amelia.

I didn't push hard on the answer, because I wasn't ready to face the truth.

"So was there a reason you came to see us?"

"Yeah. About the meeting with Mr Valentine. I wanted to know the details."

"Why didn't you call, instead stressing to come here."

"I don't have your number."

She smiled. "Not my personal number. The intercom," she pointed at the telephone on her desk.

"Oh," I blushed from embarrassment. "I didn't think of that."

"No worries. I will just send it to your work email." She clicked a few buttons on her system, and then turned to look at me.

"What?" I asked not understanding why she was looking at me.

"Your work email."

I gave her the email.

She clicked again and then turned to look at me, a bright cheerful expression on her face. "Done."

"Thank you," I returned with a smile.

My phone beeped with a message and I raised it to look at the screen.

I frowned when I saw who it was from.

"What is it?"

I looked away from Noelle's message to Lucy. Just this woman I met the other day. She is been bugging me.

"As in like a romantic interest?" Lucy stared at me with curious expression on her face.

I shook my head with a frown on my face as I thought back to everything that has transpired between me and the blonde. I don't think it is that. She said she wants to be my friend.

"Oh. What is wrong with that. Don't you like her?"

I shook my head. "Not that. There is something about her." I couldn't say what because I can't pin point what is setting off the alarm bells in my head where the blonde is. She looks harmless, and very friendly.

Maybe I am overthinking it.

"Maybe you should give her a chance. She might honestly want to be your friend. We can't have enough of those."

I thought about what Lucy said and decided to give the blonde a chance.

I opened her WhatsApp message and replied her text.

"I am free from lunch."

Her response came shortly after mine.

"Supper," with a smiling emoji.
