Someone dead

Form through the translucent glass door, Rama could see the paramedics removing a veiled woman from inside the ambulance. He was still gasping for breath from running from his office on the tenth floor to the emergency room on the ground floor. Even though their hospital has a lift, still, the size factor of the hospital forces Rama to run to the ER.

"The patient was injured with serious injuries," the paramedic reported.

Instantly Rama felt half of his life going somewhere. Rama's hands trembled. The woman lying covered in blood on the cot is Sinta.

"Doc." A nurse tries to awaken Rama from the depths of his thoughts.

Rama swallowed hard his saliva that was already as big as an apple. Not. I have to control myself. I have to save Sinta, he said to himself.

"Check the oxygen saturation." Rama gives orders.

Two the assisting nurse nodded. One nurse cut out the white sweater with black stripes that Sinta was wearing. Another nurse put an ECG wire on Sinta's chest.

"Sinta, Sinta. You hear me, Sinta?" Rama tried to calm himself as calmly as possible. He patted Sinta's cheek gently, trying to summon her consciousness.

"Her blood pressure is 100 per 60. Her oxygen saturation keeps dropping," said one of the nurses.

"Sinta, Sintaa. Do you hear me?"

Sinta awakened by coughing. Her brown eyes immediately met Rama's jet black eyes, which were wrapped in glasses. Rama could see there was a smile on the net, then it was accompanied by a smile on Sinta's lips. Rama curses himself. In this critical situation, that smile made Rama's defense even shakier.

"I will save you, Sinta."

Sinta caught Rama's hand. She gripped the hand tightly. Sinta forced her smile wider. "Thank you, Mas." (Mas is a call for affection or a call for older men in Indonesia)

It felt like Rama wanted to leave this situation. That smile, the smile that usually gave him peace, made Rama even more panicked. Feeling more and more awkward. That smile is like a double-edged sword that is ready to tear Rama's heart.

"Sinta. Don't talk yet, okay? I will save you."

Suddenly, the heart monitoring device emitted a long beep.

"Sinta!" shouted Rama powerfully regardless of the people around him.

"She had a heart attack," said one of the nurses.

"Get the epinephrine and the defibrillator!"

One nurse nodded and went to get what Rama asked for.

Rama climbs onto Sinta's body and performs CPR. Rama presses Sinta's chest at a rate of 1-2 pressures per second. Continue for one minute. Rama looked at the monitor, hoping that the straight green line would turn into a wavy one. Come on, Sinta. Not now. Please!

"Defibrillator ready," said one of the nurses.

Ram comes down from Sinta's body. He took the paddles from the side of the tool. One of the nurses applied blue gel to the paddle surface.

"Recharge 200 joules!"

The nurse pushes the energy button.

Rama put the two paddles together, rubbing the surface. After the device emits a beep (meaning it has been charged), Rama presses the paddle against Sinta's chest.

"Shoot."

Sinta's chest lifted upwards. Ram looks at the monitor, but nothing happens. The green line on the monitor is still straight.

"Recharge 200 joules!"

The second time, nothing happened. Rama returns to Sinta's body, and does CPR again. For three minutes while occasionally looking at the monitor, still no change.

No, Sinta. Not now! this time Rama snapped in his heart. Rama's eyebags began to bulge, filled with tears. The defibrillator that is used to restore the heart rate of a patient who has a heart attack to normal again loses its function.

Rama's sweat falls. His breath hitched. Rama tried his best to hold the contents of his eyebags from spilling out.

"Doctor," one of the nurses called softly, trying to resuscitate Rama.

Rama's hand stops performing CPR. His eyes stared blankly at Sinta's face. Sita's cheerful face, and her sweet smile, are all still vivid in Rama's mind. Slowly he got down from Sinta's body. His body is wobbly. Rama's eyes did not turn away from Sinta's face.

"You will state the time of death, Doc?" asked the nurse.

Rama unmoved. In his mind, he was trying to say that what he was seeing now was just a dream. Rama tries to convince himself that what happened to Sinta is not real. Subconsciously, Rama pinched his thigh. Felt hurt. He smiled. That smile is sad. Ram's tears spilled. Not. Not now, Sinta. That sentence is no longer hope. That sentence has now validated the extremely painful feeling. The pain of the wound when doused with alcohol and the sharpest knife in the world will never be able to compete with the pain at this time.

Suddenly, Rama felt his vision blur, his head felt heavy. The next second, Rama's legs went limp, unable to support his body. Rama almost fell if Andi did not quickly hold his body.
