=====================

Lying unconscious by a single tree atop a cliff was a young boy. He had long silky silver hair and beautiful azure-colored almond eyes. He looked malnourished making him look younger than he truly was. Drool could be seen flowing from his mouth, he donned an expression that made him look like a fool.

He was wearing Tyrian purple robes with silver accents.

'Ugh, what's going on? Where am I?'

The young boy woke up in a bit of a daze and started rubbing his face gently.

This was the first time in his life he was truly conscious so panic quickly started to set in.

He looked around and his confusion increased, he felt as if he was drugged but he had no clue who he was, where he was, or why someone would drug him in the first place.

'Did I lose my memories?' he contemplated internally before bending his head down and resting his head in the palms of his hands.

[You can't lose something you've never had]

He suddenly shot up in shock upon hearing an unknown voice and began to frantically start looking around.

He couldn't see anything in his surroundings and proceeded to lean back against the tree.

'I guess I must have imagined it '

[You didn't imagine anything] the mysterious voice replied once again]

Despite the voice sounding warm and affectionate like a parent gently talking to their child the young boy tensed up and stood up while shouting

"WHO ARE YOU?! SHOW YOURSELF!"

[I'm afraid that is impossible]

"W-what do you mean impossible? Who are you? What do you want?" The young boy's guard was at its peak as he frantically looked around trying to spot anything out of the ordinary.

[Sigh]

[I guess I should explain myself a bit]

[The reason it's impossible for me to show myself is because I exist within you]

"What are you talking about? What do you mean you exist within me?"

[God, aren't you the impatient one? Let me finish talking first before asking any more questions okay? So sit down and listen well]

The young boy nodded his head in compliance and sat back down beneath the tree, he still had no idea what was going on but he had no choice but to go along with the whims of the voice.

[As I was saying, I exist within you. I am called 'The Divine System of Talent Reaping']

The young boy went to open his mouth as to speak but quickly closed it, as he did this he could hear a slight chuckle.

[I've existed within you since, before your birth, the specifics aren't important as of now]

[You may be wondering why you have no memories am I correct?]

"Y-yes" the boy replied sheepishly

[You don't need to reply to me with your mouth, just think of what you'd like to say and I'll be able to hear you]

'Oh like this? Can you hear me?'

[Heh, yes I can hear you perfectly, but let us get back to the topic at hand]

[There is a simple reason as to why you can't remember anything from before you woke up]

The boy tensed up in anticipation before swiftly being dumbfounded.

[The reason is that you simply had no memories from before you've woken up]

"Huh?" the young boy was audibly confused at this revelation

'What do you mean I have no memories from before I woke up? Why don't I have memories?'

[You were poisoned]

'POISONED?! But if I were poisoned why is it that the only thing that happened is me losing my memories? Why can I still remember how to speak and various other things?'

[This is because this poison didn't take your memories. You were poisoned in the womb]

A shocked expression filled with horror appeared on the boy's face.

[The poison was designed to make you mentally handicapped and lose your mind making you a fool and draining you of any possible talent for cultivation you had]

[Even if you somehow recovered you'd never become a threat due to your lack of cultivation talents]

The boy had many questions especially about this cultivation the voice was talking about but decided to wait until it finished.

[But this was a blessing for you, thanks to this you've met all my requirements]

[The requirements were simple, you needed to have a body with 0 cultivation talents and intelligence greater than others with an unsullied set of knowledge]

'How do you know all of this?'

[This is quite simple, I've been with you your whole life. To be more specific I was the poison that caused you to lose everything]

The young boy's eyes bulged in shock not knowing how to process this information.

[Don't worry, this is a blessing in disguise, you might have lost your talent and years of your life but with me, you will soar higher than you could ever imagine]

'B-but if you were with me my whole life why did I only just gain consciousness? Why can I speak properly without ever learning?'

[You only recently reached the criteria needed for me to activate]

[Over the past 15 years you've accidentally caused the deaths of millions of bugs, as they died a portion of their mental capacity went into you awakening both me and your mind]

[I expected this to take a lot longer so I'm glad you've managed to achieve this before you've come of age, from the looks of it lady luck is on your side] the voice said as it chuckled.

[The reason you've got the knowledge you currently possess is also due to me]

[I instilled advanced language knowledge into your mind and some common sense so you'd be able to communicate with me and others once you meet them]

'So what is it you want from me?'

[Me? I want you to grow stronger, the stronger you become the stronger I become, it is a symbiotic relationship]

'And how do I become stronger?'

[That is quite simple, as my name suggests the way we both can become stronger is through you reaping the lives of the many talented people throughout the land]

'Wait! You want me to kill people?'

[You don't have to if you don't like to. But soon you will realize that without strength and the resolve to do what needs to be done your life will be short and vicious]

Due to having common sense instilled within his mind, the young boy knew that the words the system said were true. The world was a vicious place, the fact that he was poisoned before even being born was proof of that but he still felt uneasy with the idea of killing people.

The system could feel the uneasiness within the young boy's mind so he decided to change the subject.

[I still haven't shown you everything about myself]

'Shown? Don't you mean said?'

[Haha, try saying Status within your mind]

The boy was a bit skeptical but decided to do as the system said and thought to himself 'Status'

Suddenly something appeared in front of his eyes

[Status Screen]

[Name: Messor Torvus]

[Age: 15]

[Cultivation: Mortal]

[Techinques: N/A]

[Body Physique: N/A]

[System level: 1]

"Messor Torvus…" Messor mumbled his name before asking an important question

'What is all of this?'

[This is your status screen, although as of now it is pretty bare]

[As you can see it tells you a lot of information about yourself that even you might not know]

[The stronger you get the more information will become visible to you]

[Speaking of which seems like you were aptly named hahaha]

'What is this Cultivation part about? You've spoken about it but I still don't understand'

[Cultivation is the way mortal humans can become stronger, you can gain the power to control fire, ice, and many other mystical abilities]

[The higher your cultivation the more unbelievable your abilities become]

[You can gain the power to destroy entire mountain ranges with the flick of your wrists and even gain immortality]

[All that I've said is just the tip of the iceberg of possibilities]

'Why does it say mortal next to it?'

[That is because you are a mortal]

[To be more specific, a mortal is someone who has yet to cultivate, while there are more mortals in this world than you could imagine the majority of them stay that way due to having no opportunities to cultivate]

[Cultivation techniques are rare to come by and once you enter the path of cultivation your life will be filled with immense dangers so those with lesser talents chose to live a simple life of a mortal]

[There are however rare cases like you who have zero talent when it comes to cultivating and no matter what they will never be able to cultivate]

'But if I have no talent then how am I supposed to become stronger?' Messor began to question the system which seemed to be contradicting itself.

Messor could feel a chill go down his spine as he felt the irritation within the systems emotions

[I've already told you, you have to reap talents, once you manage to take the life of a person with talents for cultivation you will be able to eventually start cultivating]

'What do you mean eventually?'

[Well…] the system felt a bit awkward answering this question but it knew it couldn't keep this from its host

[Truth is, you'd be able to unlock the ability to cultivate instantly if you were to slay someone who has officially become a cultivator]

[However due to the strength difference between a mortal such as yourself and even a cultivator who had become one seconds before would still be larger than anything you could imagine]

'S-so you want me to kill many innocent mortals with a talent for cultivation?'

[To put it simply, yes. I understand how you feel but unless the impossible happens and you somehow kill a cultivator you will have to take many mortal lives]

'How many lives would I need to take?'

[That honestly depends on your luck and their cultivation talents. It could be ten or ten thousand or maybe even more]

"Argh, this is honestly starting to hurt my head…" Messor moaned out loud unaware of the man standing not far behind him
