Numb and painless

Jia's blank gaze met Mingshen's playful eyes. "What are you doing here again?"

"The question should be what are you doing having a sneaky dip in the water?"

"What?"

Even more perplexed than before, Jia looked around and found Mingshen's hand firmly gripping onto her arm. Her eyes stretched wide seeing her clothes all wet till her waist line.

Wasn't I standing at the shore?

The people on the beach, too, were visibly gasping in shock as if some horror scene was unfolding before them. They were all staring at Jia and murmuring among themselves in hushed whispers.

Jia craned her neck and was taken aback to see that she was actually quite farther from the shoreline. Mingshen, too, was soaked by the salty water. He still held onto her arm, clearly seeing her unstable on her feet. Amidst the crashing waves at them, only he remained standing firm and strong.

She lowered her gaze thoughtfully and then looked up at him.
