1 Xavier

'The most beautiful part of our story is… I wasn't looking when I found you and in an instant, I fell. It was beautiful, there was no forcing chemistry. Just a pure and beautifully raw connection.' Xavier whispered.

His unrequited love lay sleeping across a desk inside of the ancient library. She shared his passion for knowledge and poetry, this is the only place he could see her.

They spent this time together in peaceful silence, enjoying one another's company. Xavier as usual had many crumpled pieces of paper at his feet. As he reread what he had just written he crumpled it up too and discarded it.

On these crumpled pieces of paper, he had poured all of his feelings but they never seemed good enough to give to her to read.

"Squee." Raziel had just come in through the window and he curled up at the bottom of Xavier's feet to get warm.

Xavier glanced down after seeing that his familiar who had just called out to him curled up at his feet, he shushed him so as not to wake her.

His familiar was his companion that was meant to aid him in battle. At the moment though he was a small fur ball that resembled a domestic puppy, he was far from battle ready. He met his familiar the same time he met her, it was serendipitous.

The sun had just started to rise as she lay sleeping surrounded by old and dusty books. But their peace was quickly disturbed. A loud horn blew and both Xavier and the young girl sat up, they looked at one another for a moment before they both rushed to get ready.

She left her books and quickly stood and turned towards the door.

They lived in a time where demons fought against other demons.

She was a healer and wanted the world to be at peace and everyone to live harmoniously alongside one another.

Xavier was a greater demon and had wanted to stay out of the battle for dominance over the world. But how could he when she wanted to heal the world?

She was fierce and feisty and yet caring and compassionate. He threw away his faith just to keep her safe.

"Wait for me," Xavier shouted after her but her figure quickly disappeared, he tried to catch her hand but he just missed her and he could only watch as she ran fearlessly out of the library and disappeared down the long castle hall. He hurriedly put on his boots and long coat before following after her figure.

The castle's hallway had many running towards the battlefield just outside of the castle and he had lost sight of her figure amongst the crowd.

Xavier was a greater demon full of darkness and destruction. The woman he loved was the complete opposite; she was full of light and healing.

She had rushed to the battlefield to heal and protect whereas he was going there to destroy the enemy with no remorse.

The enemy feeds on the souls of others along with exploiting their opponent's weaknesses. Xavier had no weaknesses or so he thought.

He was lethal and his attacks were deadly. He fought only when necessary preferring a quiet life but since finding his solace in a magical healer he fought alongside her in order to keep her safe.

The battlefield is loud, booming charges of magic filled the air alongside the screams of the defeated. The smell of blood and carnage filled the air.

He aligned his magic and centred his body as he let one powerful charge of immense magic explode outwards.

With that powerful charge, he wiped out all in his path, his purple magical flames surrounded his body. He looked around for his love but couldn't see her figure amongst those fighting.

"Aghh!"

He heard a scream and his head sharply turned in the direction of the scream, his stomach flipped as he feared the worst then he saw as a demon had plunged its long sharp arm through his love's torso, she was impaled and held in the air before the demon then flung her body away. It menacingly grinned as it cast her aside.

"My love." He whispered into the cold air, his feet felt heavy as he rushed towards her.

The world around him seemed to freeze at that moment. Rage was all Xavier could feel at that moment and he let out bursts of energy charges as he made his way towards his love.

When he reached her he saw her pale blue dress ripped and blood flowed out of her wound. She tried to speak but no words came out, her lips were pale as they trembled.

"Shhh, it's okay. You will be okay, heal yourself." Xavier hurriedly said as he tried to console her.

But she knew that a healer could only heal others and not themselves, a tear ran down her cheek. She didn't want to say goodbye, she could never say goodbye to Xavier. Not in this lifetime or the next, she never got the chance to tell him anything.

She knew as a healer that her life could end at any moment. She could run onto the battlefield without a second thought but as for telling someone her feelings she never had the courage.

Xavier dropped to his knees beside his love, blood pooled around him, he held her body in his arms and pulled her to his chest and in that moment he watched the light leave her sparkling emerald eyes he unleashed a scream so deadly and heart wrenching that a darkness exploded from his body, destroying everything in its path.

Xavier held his lover in his arms as he felt her body go limp against him. He couldn't hear the birds in the sky nor the screaming of the battlefield. At that moment he felt numb.

He held on to her lifeless body and he lost all hope, she was gone. He pulled away and looked at her, her face was covered in blood and tears. He gently fixed her ebony hair and wiped her face with his cloak removing all traces of blood.

As he held her tightly in his arms her body then started to disappear and gold orbs of light appeared in front of him before quickly disappearing into the night sky.

His love was gone.

Xavier's arms were left empty and he fell forward with his hands in fists. He tried to comprehend his loss and his silver eyes stung as he stared at the blood pool where her body once lay, his heart crumpled into ash.

"My love I am so sorry." His voice broke as tears streamed down his face. He felt the guilt and emptiness hit him all at once.

He felt a lump in his throat and an unbearable pain in his chest. He never knew that grief could be so painful.

After a while, he finally stood and pulled up the hood over his head covering his long dark hair and his face. The wind was strong and wiped against his body but he didn't feel the cold, he didn't feel anything.

Ash filled the air, the battlefield was quiet and empty. Everyone was dead, he was surrounded by bodies and weapons.

"Squee." Raziel tried to get his masters attention but he was ignored. He stood by his side trying to give him comfort.

The sun started to rise but the darkness had enveloped him. He had stayed by her side all through the night holding her, the home for his heart was now gone.

His heart was full of grief and he no longer cared for the world. He picked up her long sword by its hilt from the dirt, a gift he had once given her to protect herself but she had never wielded it. He stood and felt nothing, his reason for living was gone.

He was broken.
