6 The Fight II

'Welp, guess I have to help her anyway.'

*Sigh*

Magnus started paying attention to the fight, trying to find a time to intervene, but he couldn't help but notice Estelle's fighting style, it was extremely eye-catching, to say the least.

The only thing he could think of when he watched her fight, was the word 'breathtaking'. She was nimble, and her fighting style relied heavily on that fact, she zoomed from one place to another effortlessly.

Obviously, though, high agility wouldn't amount to much on its own, and it would be pretty useless on its own. It seemed like Estelle knew that though, and was able to use her agile movements to her advantage. The way she did this was with her technique. That was what was so breathtaking about her combat style, it was her technique.

The way she maneuvered around the onslaught of the big, buff men chasing to shred her into pieces. And the way she kept her focus on every single one of them while striking them in their weak spots that they left unguarded, while also bending and twisting around all of their attacks aimed towards her.

'So this is what the top of the top fight like, huh?' Magnus had never seen anyone fight as skillfully as Estelle was doing right now. He just stared at her fighting. He was mesmerized. Mesmerized not at her, but rather at the way she fought.

Time slowed down as he watched her fight.

He carefully observed each and every movement done by Estelle, even down to her carefully controlled breathing pattern. He watched how she managed to control even the smaller details to her advantage, even being extremely outnumbered.

Slowly, move by move, Magnus started to feel like he could understand what she was doing. At first, he was able to predict a move she made, but with time, he was able to predict everything she did against them, even predicting the way she changed her breathing and grip.

Time was extremely slow, but Magnus didn't notice, he had no idea. He was completely immersed in the way she fought.

Gradually, after a long time in the almost completely frozen time, Magnus's vision started to distort. The movements of Estelle started to change, and started to make movements that did not make any connection with her previous movements.

In fact, this time, her movements were complex, far more complex than before, no matter how much he stared, he couldn't make heads or tails of the meaning behind any of her movements, and yet they seemed to completely overwhelmed her opponents, she was fighting unnaturally, almost like this wasn't her fighting.

Slowly, her face started to distort, and it changed to something, Magnus could easily recognize. It was him, weird as it sounded, she had his face, well-not exactly, something was different about his face, but he couldn't pin-point what it was.

She fought with unbelievable strength, to the point where it didn't make any sense any more, the coach should have been destroyed a long time ago, and even the backlash from the fight should've killed everyone on board, that was the level of the fight Magnus was experiencing.

And yet, if Magnus was in his regular condition, he would've noticed many things were odd in multiple ways, however, in his current state, something was blocking his capacity to think properly, he was pretty much acting on instinct.

He stared, even though he couldn't comprehend what was happening in the fight, he stared, not blinking an eye like he was afraid of missing even a bit of it, he was supposed to be helping her fight against those men, however, he couldn't move. Well, it was more like he didn't want to. It was like he wanted to watch her fight forever.

The more he watched her fight, the more he felt some little part of him being fulfilled, he felt something sprout inside of him. A desire, a goal, an ambition, an aspiration.

One thing Magnus had lacked until now was an objective for him to work towards, but now, he could feel it, he wanted to be like her. No, he wanted to surpass her, he wanted to surpass the level of skill at which Estelle currently fought at, even if it wasn't really her he was currently watching.

He felt that thought slowly appear from his subconscious until it occupied his entire mind. He pictured himself one day fighting like that. The sight he saw in front of him, it was beautiful. He was no longer even watching the fight, his eyes were closed, and he could continue the fight inside his mind, without even having to look, the movements that seemed extremely complex and without reason were automatically being filled out in his mind, and he was playing them out in his head.

Magnus never really felt a passion for anything in his life, he wasn't good at things like art, and maybe that's why he never really found anything really special about it. But now-

'This. This is art.'

He could appreciate this, the sight in front of him made him feel a sort of mini-euphoria. He wanted to try it. To fight, just like this.

Magnus had gotten into scuffles and small-scale fights before, but it was always him on the receiving end of the pain.

He had never gotten to genuinely put up a fight. But now, Magnus felt a sudden rush. He desperately wanted to fight, he was now completely consumed by an urge and instinct that he never even knew he had.

He felt like something inside of him awakened. His pupils enlarged, he wasn't sure why, but he was grinning, really wide, and his eyes were shining sharply. He felt a fire burn inside of his heart.

Out of seemingly nowhere, he let out a small cackle that nobody except himself could hear, in this environment where time didn't seem to flow.

Something had changed.

Not physically, in that regard, he was still the same.

However,

[Host has prematurely observed the source.]

[Host has prematurely triggered a Mental Rhapsody.]

(Author's Note: It's the same text as above, just more corrupted.)

And even with all of this happening, Magnus wasn't paying attention to any of it. His eyes were closed for a while now, which meant that he could see the messages in front of him, he could see them, it's just that he wasn't looking. He wasn't paying attention to what was in front of him.

It was similar to the effect when one looks into an extremely bright source of light, and your eyes keep having an effect for a while once you look away. Except in this case, he didn't even bother looking at anything else, the fight scene kept playing anything in his mind, and he was giving it his full attention, almost instinctively, and wasn't even able to think whatsoever.

After observing the fight scenes for hours on end, without any movement from his body, a system message had finally appeared.

[Host has awakened an inner being.]

And then, after around a second of nothing,

[Host is going to undergo a Mental Rebirth.]

The world as he knew it distorted, not in the same way as before, this time, it literally just flipped, everything just flipped over in different directions, and everything became black and white. Everything kept moving, as if no one else could feel the world collapsing onto itself.

Magnus groaned, on top of his oddly unfunctional thoughts, he started to feel dizzy, which made him feel weak inside.

By the time Estelle had finished knocking down the 7th person, around 2 dozen more people came rushing from all compartments. The ring leader seemed to have relayed a message for everyone to regroup in this compartment, to ensure the defeat of Estelle.

Throughout all of this, Magnus just stood there, not moving an inch.

He could see the Ring Leader slowly choking Remus, to a point near death. He could see Estelle slowly struggling to fend against the seemingly endless supply of thugs that just kept on coming. Although at first, it was just a minor slip-up, a mistake here and there eventually adds up. Estelle was aware of this, but there was nothing she could do about it.

Magnus's eyes had opened at one point, and could see all of this, albeit was not able to make anything of it, due to it's ever moving nature. Even so, he couldn't fully comprehend anything he was seeing, it was like he was looking at nothing, his eyes were blank and dull.

He was in a half-euphoric state, and system messages started appearing in front of him.

[Host's Mentality has been reborn.]

The distortion in the world finally stopped, his head shook as he adjusted himself to normal, but that didn't last long either.

[Host's trait 'Resolute Will' has evolved to 'Psychotic Will']

[Host's trait 'Rational Mind' has evolved to 'Irrational Mind'.]

[Host has gained the skill 'Psychosis'].

And finally,

[Host has awakened the trait 'Battle Tendency'.]

[Host's trait 'Battle Tendency' has evolved into Innate Trait 'Berserker's Drive'.]

Magnus felt his eyes turning bloodshot. He could feel something for the first time in hours. The world around him seemed to deform once again. At first, everything became bright and of the color yellow, and in the next second, the entire world in his vision started flashing bright red and orange.

Although everybody was focusing on the fight between Estelle and the thugs, if anyone had looked at Magnus at this time, they would have noticed something weird.

It was his hair, Magnus's hair started to faintly start to become even darker, which theoretically didn't make any sense. Magnus's hair was already the darkest color possible, and yet, it started to get even darker, and even faintly glowed.

The same effect happened to his eyes, but on a higher scale.

Magnus could finally feel himself coming back to reality. Except it seemed like the world was tinted in a shade of colors. He could barely see through the intense, bright colors everywhere he looked, but something was weird. It was hard to explain.

He could finally think again, and the 'period of time' he had just gone through, that felt like hours, were like seconds as Estelle, the proper her this time, was fighting with the thugs, albeit barely.

He realized that all of what he saw didn't actually happen, and was trying to think even more, but something was weird, he tried rationalizing himself, but he couldn't. His urges, they were controlling him, he felt violent.

Although his vision was obscured in color, it was like he could see even clearer than before. In fact, now that he looked carefully, it wasn't just one color, all sorts of colors and shades popped up in front of him. It was like the world was inverted. But somehow, Magnus felt as if this was right. As if this was how the world should look.

Everything looked beautiful, he could see every little thing with great detail.

[Host has gained the skill 'Wrath of the Berserker'.]

All of a sudden, Magnus stopped thinking. Even though he could faintly think for the past couple of seconds, that disappeared too. No, it was more like something was blocking his ability to think. He was filled with instinctual lunacy. He had never felt like this before. He was the type of person to stay calm throughout almost anything. He always kept his calm and stayed composed.

But this was different, it was like he was incapable of staying composed. It was like he was not able to control some inner demonic impulse he never knew he had.

His thoughts started to struggle to form. He was filled with the urge to tear something apart.

It was then, when he looked forward, and he saw Estelle on the verge of getting cornered by the oncoming assault of the dozens of men, he finally got back his rationality.

He could afford something happening to himself, but it would leave a bad taste in his mouth, and a dent in his heart if something happened to the innocent people in front of him.

His determination took a hold of him, as it does, whenever he needs it the most.

'Focus, Magnus'

He breathed out with all of the power in his lungs, and bit his tongue.

"Fuuuuu"

*Squish*

Blood was leaking, but he could concentrate on something now, he felt himself calming down. He was regaining his thoughts, and his rationality. He was scared, what had just happened to him? What happened to the system? What did any of those messages mean?

He realized he had more important things to worry about. If he hadn't just seen Estelle, he probably wouldn't have woken up from that state for a while. By that time, she would probably already be dead, dead by his lack of action.

His eyes started to turn to their normal pitch-black color, while his hair started to turn their normal shade of black again.

He had calmed down, and had decided, no longer would he wait. He would join in on the action and help her fight against them. However, he wouldn't do so as an irrational beast, he would do it logically.

He began to step towards the scene of the fight, slowly increasing his speed as he approached.

'Haaaaah. Think Magnus, what should I do here? Ah. System, you there? Activate appraisal on... one of the thugs, and the Ring Leader....and Estelle.'

And, just like he had hoped, the status boards of all 3 came up, it seemed like the system was fine as well.

'Phew' His chaotic emotions started becoming more positive seeing the system was back to normal, without the corrupted text from earlier.

He then glanced at the 3 status boards, he had no time to waste.

That was the average status of the thugs Estelle was facing. Although they seemed relatively weak, it still wouldn't be easy to deal with them. Which was surprising considering Estelle managed to knock each one out with seemingly little effort, but Magnus felt like he could manage to take them out, and gained a little more confidence after seeing the stats of these big bulky men being lower than his.

Then he looked at the stats of the Ring Leader,

The Ring Leader was surprisingly strong, in fact, his strength was even higher than Magnus's. Although he didn't have any skills or titles, he did have a trait. It was that his skin was as strong as a rock. Magnus was a little anxious seeing this, even though Magnus had the overwhelming advantage, he was still far behind when it came to things like combat techniques, styles, and overall experience in battle.

Slowly trying to strengthen his resolve, he also checked Estelle's stats.

"Woah," presumably due to her being related to a Ranker, her strength was on another level to Magnus, before he got his system of course. Magnus had been training his body's physical fitness for years. However, even so, his stats were slightly above average. The only way his stats improved was due to the exercise regimen given by the system in the form of a quest.

And yet Estelle was able to get this strong, being the same age as him, without such help. Obviously, there was the factor of the help of a Ranker, but that made Magnus finally understand the gap between the Rankers and the people who wished to become like them.

Even before the system, Magnus always believed he would have easily been able to climb the tower and become powerful with his training that seemed nothing in comparison to actual rankers. It was because he had never actually seen a ranker.

Magnus was now glad that he had decided to join the Academy before rushing to the tower, even with the system. He would get the opportunity to fully temper himself and his body.

Although all of this took a while to describe, it took about 10 seconds, for all of this to happen and for Magnus to get through the coach to where Estelle was.

He finally reached close to where the fight was taking place.

*Siiiiigh*

After letting out a long sigh, Magnus leapt forward. He focused all of his strength and vitality onto his feet and went past everyone.

He went through all of the thugs causing a ruckus.

He went through Estelle fighting the thugs.

And he went through the civilians on all sides

Magnus leapt.

He leapt all the way to the Ring Leader.
