When You Hurry

"How did something like this happen?" Ages asked, looking over the two bodies piled on top of each other on the ground, blood scattered everywhere.

"In the middle of the road too." A woman in a police uniform said, walking to them. Her deep red hair was tied in a braid and hanging off her shoulder as she stared at the two on the ground, clicking her tongue.

A number of police and people in casual clothing stood in the middle of the road, police lines littered all around the place to keep the people out as a small crowd formed around the area.

"In the busiest street too," Fern said watching as the men in uniform began to chase the people away, one by one. "They clearly want to send a message and make sure it gets delivered."

"Well, they did a good job at that." The woman in uniform said, a scowl coming on her face. "Do we know who they are?"

"We don't, Officer Leonhart. We only know that they are both females." One of the men said, handing her a clipboard of the speculations they came to.

"They do not appear more than sixteen years old." She said, turning to Ages and glaring at the man. "Where were your men, you piece of shit? Weren't you supposed to look after this locality and the people here?? I don't see shit happening."

"Harper. Calm down." A voice came from behind them as everyone turned to see a man who looks identical to the woman, only a little taller and with shorter hair walking to them.

He wore a suit under a coat thrown over his shoulders. One side of his eye had a long scar running down his face, the smoke hanging from his lips casually.

"Hayden." The woman said, glaring at him now. "What are you doing out of the hospital?"

"I am making a really quick recovery so they allowed me to leave." The man said nonchalantly. "Besides, my men must be missing me."

"They don't care about you at all actually," Fern said nonchalantly. "Royce said that you always disappear on them anyway. As long as they know you are alive, they don't care."

Hayden looked at them for a second before bursting into a laugh, "Well, he isn't wrong. I assume he is taking care of them well enough, maybe I should have stayed in there a little longer."

"You are a piece of shit." The woman sneered at him. "And yes, you should have stayed in there a little longer. If Eden finds out about this-"

"He will not mind." The man said dismissively. "Now will you let me breathe sister dearest? Thank you. Been a while, Ages. Hope you are well."

"I could say the same thing about you." Ages said.

Walking past everyone, Hayden made his way to the bodies and began conversing with the men taking pictures and taking notes on what they know.

"I've heard of twins that look and behave exactly like each other, but I didn't realise just how much you two are alike." Ages chuckled at the woman.

"Don't remind me." She said, rolling her eyes at him. "Where is the boss by the way?"

"He is on his way, I think." Ages said, turning to Fern. "You told him where we are right?"

"Who?"

"The boss, you told him to come here, right?"

"I thought you did."

"How the hell are you two adults?" Harper asked, looking at the two, annoyance radiating off her.

"I need to call him no-"

Everyone paused when they heard the loud sounds of a motorbike approaching them and watched as a man in an all-black, leather jacket and pants stopped in front of the police line.

"Please leave. This is not a place for pedestrians." Some of the police tried to tell him but the man just parked his bike at the front and took off his helmet.

"Don't worry, I'm not a pedestrian." The man said, his white hair falling over his face as he grinned at everyone staring at him while walking past them. "Ages. Oh? Harper is here? I haven't seen you in a while. How are you-"

The woman rushed forward to punch Eden but he managed to dodge her attack at the last minute.

"Whoa! What did I do wrong?" Eden asked, not wiping the grin from his face.

"You and your stupid men failed to protect those girls. Doing an awful job at looking after your territory." She sneered at the man, expression turning soft as he turned to the victims.

"Hold this for me." Eden gave the helmet to Fern and walked to the bodies, there he met Hayden. "Why are you out of the hospital?"

"I am well enough to be moving around so they allowed me out." The man said, shrugging. "You look well."

"I could say the same thing about you," Eden said, bending down to the bodies in front of him.

Both the girls wore the standard uniform which looks intact but that doesn't mean nothing happened. Their faces were burnt off along with their hairs and their fingers. Making it almost impossible to put an identity to who they may be.

"Here, sir." One of the police officers handed Eden a pair of gloves, unopened, that he gratefully took and put on as he began inspecting their bodies.

As soon as he touched them, the two split open but not a thing spilt from their bodies. Not even a drop of blood.

What the hell? Eden thought, inspecting their bodies a little closer. What the fuck happened to them?

"Harper! Come here!" Eden called as the three ran to him as quickly as possible, the woman turning away from the sight, clenching her teeth.

"What the hell?" Ages gasped, eyes widening.

"Looks like they drained the two of all their blood," Fern said, frowning. "What about their insides?"

Eden released a breath as he peeked into the cut torso of one of the girls. "Nothing is in here. The flesh is coated with something hard too."

"Whoever did this does not want the two to be known." Fern observed.

"Yes, but why?" Hayden asked, looking at the two girls and turning away from them, closing his eyes tightly. "This annoys me so much."

"We need to find their identities first," Eden said, taking off his gloves and disposing at them with the fire from his lighter. He threw the burning gloves on the ground, watching as they burnt away.

"What about the blood around them?" Ages pointed out. "What is that if they can't bleed?"

"We need to have that checked as well," Eden said, frowning. "Why go to this length? Why not just kill them if you are going to do that?"

"How long do you think it will take?" Ages asked Harper.

"Even if we used our best, it could take a while." She said, balling her hands into fists. "Especially because they took the time to make sure there is no trace of DNA left."

Contemplating for a second, Ages turned to Eden, "Boss, why don't you-"

A sudden phone ringing came from Eden's pocket, cutting his sentence off. Pulling the phone out of his pocket, Eden stared at the caller ID, a soft smile coming on his face.

"Hello, honey?"

Harper's face turned from annoyance to disgust in a split second as she stared at Eden talking in a gushy tone to whoever it is on the phone.

"Don't mind him." Ages said, chuckling. "He is just talking to his partner."

"That man-" she pointed to Eden who looked like he has flowers all around him -"has a partner? Is the world going to end tonight or something?"

"Ha. Ha. Very funny." Eden said rolling his eyes at the woman. "You're just jealous that you can't have sex with my partner."

"I don't even want to!" She argued back while Eden ignored her.

"Eden." The automated voice on the other end said.

"Yes?"

"Do you know who the two girls are?"

"Wait, how do you know? Can you see them?" Eden asked, looking all over but didn't find anything. Not even a CCTV camera.

"The necklace you are wearing. I told you that I can use that to pinpoint where you are as long as you wear it and also see your surroundings. To keep you safe."

"I only heard the last part and I don't remember anything else," Eden said, laughing as everyone stared at him like he is an idiot as he held up the silver necklace the shape of a beetle. "So this can see? Can you see me now?"

"I can. Now, please tell me if you know about them. I still can't hear, after all." The entire time Eden is talking to Noel, he could hear the continuous clacking of keyboards.

He must really be busy. But to call to make sure I'm ok? I feel so loved.

"But yes, we don't know who the two kids are and will have to do some tests to find out. It might take a while. Want to help or something?"

"I already found out who they are."
