The Deviate's Phantom System

'Ruin the natural environment and you'll take the living organism out of its natural, healthy habitat. It will desperately accept deviations in its life-or-death struggle to survive. It will become a deviate before it surrenders to extermination...' This, was the advanced idea of Duke Priester—when he was still publicly and generally accepted as the world's most ingenious biotechnologist. And he had 'The Priester Labs' which was one of the greatest and highly ranked infrastructure/laboratory in the world at the time, to his name. Then, fresh out of college as the best graduating student in the whole department and being the only child of extremely wealthy parents, he'd pooled enough resources to build the first ever science lab in Haveiton and the world at large to touch the skies, both figuratively and literally. This very building was the center of attention for the super powers all over the world due to the advanced tech himself and his other employees created and just like that, he became one of the most influential and famous men in the world. Duke's mind worked faster and smarter than most human's. It was a blessing at first, but eventually, it became a curse. His unsurpassed greed fuelled ravenously by the desire for even more fame and glory made him begin to imagine the 'impossible.' And what happens when you begin to imagine a particular thing repeatedly? You swing into action in an attempt to carry it out. This was what Duke Priester did. What did he do? What was the effect it had on the world, including parallel universes? How was he going to atone for his sins? And would he be ready to sacrifice what he loved the most to finally be able to truly say 'I'm free?'

Five Years Ago...part B

"Begin!"

"Harnessed Psionic Energy at 42%. Should we begin the next phase Mr. Duke?"

Duke was within the test chamber which was enclosed in a full casing of nigh unbreakable glass, observing the purple ball of energy which was enclosed within a glass pyramid-like casing a few metres away from him.

He was so focused on the mythical ball that he barely heard what the lead scientist said.

"Hm?"

"The harnessing speed is average, but steady. All equipments are functioning optimally. Should we move to the next phase?" The young man asked again as he adjusted his glasses on his straight nose.

Personally, he didn't want the energy level to cross 50%. He had a hunch that anything beyond that would definitely lead to untold mayhem.

He could only hope Duke wasn't overambitious and would play it safe.

Still staring at the energy ball gradually increasing in intensity, he answered. "Hold on till it's 50%."

"Yes Mr. Duke." The scientist replied, easing a silent sigh of relief.

As Duke observed the phenomenon right in front of him, he felt a kind of wave which he believed was being emitted by the Psionic energy which had taken the shape of a circle.

He'd never felt anything like it in all his life.

This wave seemed to have a kind of mystic feel to it and interestingly, it slowly began to have effect on his young body. However, he wasn't aware of it.

Very, very slowly, his slender and long body had begun to grow muscly. His eyes began to shine brighter and his short blond hair began to loose its spikiness and began to elongate. His whole body literally and gradually began brimming with energy.

'And they said harnessing Psionic energy was the craziest thing to do.'

Of course, he knew the dangers of trying to wield something entirely extraterrestrial in nature, but upon weighing the pros and cons, the pros outweighed the cons.

And if he was successful, he would be renowned as the greatest legend to ever walk the earth. He would be world famous in a new, crazy way. He would be acknowledged as a god!

"Energy level is at 50% Mr. Duke!" Came the tensed voice of the lead scientist.

Duke waved his hand casually. "Move to the next phase."

The phases were these.

Phase one, which was just completed was to try and harness Psionic energy, and if it was unsuccessful then there would be no need to move to the next phase. However, they'd already had a bit of success in this days before now, so there wasn't any issue for this phase presently.

Phase two was to fuse said energy with a human's DNA slowly, in order to ascertain just how much psionic energy could be held by a human before its body begins to collapse and degenerate.

And since Duke was the model, it meant this part could only determine this for people like Duke. For diversity they would need other people with different statures and conditions.

Then the third phase which could begin days or even months after the second phase, depending on the state the model's body was in, would be to begin activating the imprinted energy and using it in however way gifted.

Then the fourth and final phase would be a global transformation.

Each phase depended heavily on the one before it, which as a matter of fact, was good...

Just as Duke's hands reached for the buttons on his shirt, the lead scientist spoke.

"We'll need you to undress sir."

"Yes. I know."

This second phase was perhaps the most dangerous of all phases as there was a high probability that he would be entirely crippled and paralyzed or worse, he would loose his life.

But, Duke was too determined to abandon his fantasy.

A few seconds after, Duke was stripped down to his briefs and then he walked to a machine a few feet to his left.

This machine was actually designed by one of the leading world-famous scientists whose name was in nearly every science books just because of this machine. The name of the machine was the D-stabilizer, and the name of its creator was Albert E. D.

The D-stabilizer was actually designed purposely to remove some unwanted and health wise dangerous traits that have been passed down into the DNA of a human then fill those spaces with normal ones. And it cost a fortune.

This was the machine in front of Duke. However, it had been modified by Duke's team of scientists to fuse psionic energy with a human's DNA.

Theoretically, this machine would work perfectly.

The machine's construct was similar to that of a coffin, but part of the modification made was the addition of parts which would allow Duke's hands to be spread apart. Also the upper half horizontally, was cut off.

Of course, this was done with utmost carefulness so as not to temporarily or permanently wreck it and it's functions.

Presently, it was placed vertically, so all Duke needed to do was to lie on it, while standing.

Once he placed his body appropriately on the machine, the lead scientist gave a signal and one of the other scientists consecutively began touching some buttons on a pad in his hand.

Within the test chamber, Duke's hands and legs were automatically cuffed down, and different small sized tubes each with an inch long syringe at one end of them began connecting themselves to their assigned holes which were behind the machine, piercing into his body in the process, and making him give a faint groan.

Some of the other ends of these tubes were attached to a large onscreen computer outside the chamber where Duke's entire human hood would be displayed, ready for alteration. While the others—currently de-activated—were connected to the glass prism where the purple ball of energy slowly danced.

The lead scientist walked over to the computer and began observing Duke's vitals and functions. As he did, a broad smile appeared on his face. 'Truly impressive.' He thought.

From his observation, Duke's body was perfectly normal...no, it was extraordinary. It was as if Duke's body had been consciously and intentionally crafted for a ruler.

Duke's I.Q was amazing, which from his perspective, was one of the reasons Duke still pushed on with this plan against all odds.

In truth, Duke's I.Q really was amazing on normal basis, but as for the body, the "extraordinary" characteristics the lead scientist was seeing was only because the mystic energy emitted by the Psionic energy was having a positive effect on his body.

After confirming that Duke's body was ready for the fusion, the lead scientist gave a signal and one by one, the tubes connected to the glass prism where the purple ball was confined, began activating.

"We will commence the fusion process now, Mr. Duke."

Just as Duke nodded, a mechanical helmet was placed on his head by robotic arms stationed behind the D-stabilizer.

"The helmet allows us to hear your voice from the outside while the process is ongoing...in case you want to pass any information." The lead scientist said and gave a deep sigh.

Once this process begins, there would be no turning back.

He cleared his throat, composed himself and said this regrettable word.

"Begin!"
