Chapter 14

Shopping had been even more of a chore than Leander had expected, but fortunately he’d had the foresight to ask Marlowe for the names of several bookshops as well; they’d served as a reward when he’d finally finished ordering all his clothing. He knew that Sutton’s Book Sellers was likely to become one of his favorite shops. Sutton had initially treated him with disdain—as had most of the shopkeepers until they learned he was an earl—but had warmed up once the subject of more obscure Arthurian texts came up. Leander had purchased translations of two more of de Troyes’ works as well as a copy of Malory’s Prose Merlin. In addition, Sutton had promised to contact him if he came across translations of the German or Italian works.
