Year 2024: Doomsday, 2:30pm

All the citizens of Earth were going about their daily activities. Those that had to work, worked. Those that didn't, well they did whatever.

New York, USA

A cacophony of car horns filled the air. The citizens of this state were already used to these incessant noises. They walked their dogs, rode cabs, even took public transport.

None of them seemed to be afraid. But of course, why would they? After all, no one could predict what came next.

The skies above began to swirl, forming a wild gale that blew across the land. Purses were snatched, dogs were lifted off, even lamp posts were ripped off their stand under the intense wind.

Panic broke out. People ran inside houses, hoping to gain shelter from the gale. The public library was filled with people, men, women and children of all ages were occupying the library.

The flat screen on the walls suddenly turned on. A weather expert could be seen on the news. His voice rang out from the speakers, reaching the crowd;

"Everyone stay calm. We are experiencing some unexpected weather changes. But not to worry, in a few minutes, as seen in this chart next to me..."

Before the weatherman could finish his sentence, the chart that had appeared, suddenly disappeared. All that was left was the weatherman.

"Uh..Hold on everyone, we're just experiencing some difficulties due to the weather changes. But everyone should remain calm and not panic. There will be a huge..uh.. sunlight in a few minutes..or hours... uh.."

It was obvious the fear had already began to creep into the weatherman's heart as his eloquent speech, suddenly fell apart and his eyes widened as his eyes darted to a place beyond the reach of the camera.

"Uh.. everyone, stay safe, do not.."

The channel suddenly got scrambled for a few seconds, before ultimately going dark.

People began to panic. Some unlucky people even had a panic attack. The only thing that could be done for them was to cut up pieces of newspaper and tape it into a paper bag for them.

The librarian was obviously annoyed over losing a few dollars and he instantly exploded.

"How can you just cut paper like that? What a waste! Would you pay for all the damage you've caused?"

The people glanced at him with obvious rage in their eyes and some even shouted out a few obscenities.

The librarian, mad at being ignored, started making his way over, probably to collect the torn up newspaper from the victims.

Suddenly, the TV came on again, and there were military officers in the background. A man held the microphone and quickly spoke into it;

"Everyone... shelter...you... Military will...you".

Due to the storm, the words coming out of the megaphone was distorted, but some individuals quickly picked up the message and started searching for the nearest shelter.

The phones received no signal and a weird alert popped off on everyone's phones;

[The Internet is now offline!]

People began to freak out and screams rang out before a muscular, 35 looking man stepped forward and proposed to lead everyone out.

Slowly, the door to the library was opened, but as the door met with the wind, the door was blown right off its hinges.

"Shit!! The gale has become stronger. Run quickly"

As they stared at the skies, the originally blue, cloudy skies had turned a shade of crimson. The world looked as though it was dyed in blood.

Many people followed the back of the man as they ran around looking for the nearest shelter.

"I remember. Today, I was passing down a street and I saw some military men. I didn't think much about it though. Maybe that's where they are."

People instinctively had hope again and everyone felt that they could survive. They ran down corners as they approached the street.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a lamp post flew over from behind and smashed into a few people. Their skulls cracked open and they slumped to the floor. Their eyes staring into space and blood staining the asphalt street.

The scene reminded those that this disaster was real, and they instantly picked up the pace. Everyone was filled with adrenaline, rushing towards the shelter. A symbol of hope still lit in their hearts.

.....

2:45pm

In an abandoned building somewhere in New York,

"Guys, they say the shelter has enough food rations to last us three years. We're only allowed to pack light."

The door burst open as the voice rang out in the room. Four people, two 23 year old men, a 26 year old man and a 21 year old woman looked toward the door.

A 24 year old man stood panting. His black wet hair sticking to his face as sweat rolled down his forehead. His clothes torn from the intensity of the wind.

"We need to pack only necessary things. Get up. Come on, let's go"

Before long, two large boxes were packed up.

"What's in all these boxes?"

"Mostly manga, some clothes and other necessities"

"We're facing doomsday and you're stocking up on manga?!"

"Somebody's gotta leave some culture for the next generation, right??"

Suddenly the building shook as a car smashed through the wall crushing the 26 year old man at the back.

"Holy shit! Drake!"

They ran toward him trying to lift the car upward.

"Get out of here. Please!"

Outside the window, a truck could be seen coming towards the building. Four people ran away from the building, as it crumbled from the weight of the truck, towards the shelter carrying large boxes in hand and tears in their eyes.

This phenomenon occured over the world. People began to question, 'Is this how humanity goes out?!'

Different people of different religions began to pray to their gods/goddesses. Christians called out for God to send a helper from heaven. Muslims did the same, and the Buddhists, and other religions. But no one heard their plea.

In Year 2024, a great calamity hit earth.. literally.
