CHAPTER 7: BROKEN BONES

"You wouldn't know until you try," she said and started to approach him.

Fate scoffed, just how low was he that V had to encourage him. "You don't have to try too hard. You have absolutely no reason to save me. Save yourself, I already knew at some point that I am going to die here."

Fate sighed, in a different situation he would be laughing at the corny line he just said. He would like some water, maybe she could use magic to make some for him and food too, that would be nice.

"Spare me all that. I came here for a reason and I intend to do just that." V returned.

He sniffled, "V," he cried and looked at her, he felt oddly touched.

She sneered at him and rolled her eyes. "Can you sit up at least? I don't know how long he will be out, it would be best if we quit stalling and try to get out of here."

"I can't lift my hands V, sitting up is impossible."

"Fine, I will help you."

She crossed over Felix and stood close enough to help him then she gently put her hand underneath his head as she tried to lift him. She did and his body fell back as soon as she removed her hands.

"Ow!" He yelled as his top half fell to the table.

"Would you put some effort into it?" She looked annoyed.

"Believe me, I'm trying. I want to get out of here badly but my body won't let me. You have no idea what I have been through these past years."

"Well, I can't leave here without you, there has to be another option."

Fate looked at her, he thought she looked a little too worried. He turned away from her and caught the glare of the night light from the window. It wasn't really a glare but the sky was pretty bright.

The moon was bright enough to light up the room enough for him to see. However, his eyes could see pretty well in the dark so the darkness was never something he was worried about.

The stars, however, were what intrigued him the most. They looked brighter than he had ever seen them but he figured it was because he had hoped for the first time in a long time.

He would give up just yet but he knew he would not die, if he could he would have been dead a long time ago but he was still living. Now was not the time to suck. He would get out of here even if it killed him.

He chuckled at his terrible joke but it was better to die than to remain here. He had an idea, it wasn't a great one but he was willing to take it.

"What's funny?" She asked, she looked agitated. He couldn't blame her, they were wasting too much time conversing and they still had no concrete way out of here.

"Nothing important, I have an idea. Do you know what's behind this wall?" He asked, pointing to the wall with the window.

"No," she replied.

"Hmm, do you think you can break it?"

"I don't know," she mumbled and began walking towards the wall. She touched it, "it looks thick and feels thicker."

"I know, you think you can break it though?"

The first few months he was here, he wasn't always in chains. At a point in his frustration, he had tried punching his way out. It was not a good idea obviously but he had been desperate.

He had ended up with broken fingers each time. He had tried dislocating his joints to escape but even that had been futile. His torture has gotten lax over the years, the first few months were brutal, and he didn't think he had ever wanted death so badly.

Now was not the time to think of such bad things, he was trying to escape. He didn't need anyone to tell him this was likely the only chance he would get. If he lost it, he was doomed.

"I can try," she mumbled and felt around.

"What are you looking for?" He asked.

"A weak spot, somewhere that has worn out over time." She vigorously waved her hand over the slab of stone.

"Okay?" He doubted she would find it. "Any luck?" He asked after a while.

"Nope, I am just going to throw everything I have at it."

"What if what is behind this wall is worse than going through the guards?" He looked up at the ceiling as he spoke.

"Well, we won't know until we find out."

She took a step back and pointed her right palm towards the wall. The gem on her right palm began to glow, Fate thought it was glowing way brighter than when she healed him.

She was mumbling something, he couldn't hear her well but he could tell she was reciting a spell. The words, "light", "word" and "host" reached his ears. If he survived, he would like to learn magic. He knew not everyone could.

A bright ball appeared and Fate gasped. Immediately, she tossed it at the wall and Fate felt the vibration as the mass of energy made contact. For a few seconds, it looked like the wall would not give way but then it did with a loud sound.

The open space revealed a cliff, the end was not visible. "This is definitely our best choice," V announced.

"What is going on there?!" A guard yelled, the voice was loud but it sounded a bit far.

"Quick, let's get out of here," she mumbled and rushed at him trying to lift him.

"You're not going to make it carrying me," he said to her.

"What do you mean?"

He could hear the guards' footsteps as they ran, any second now, they were going to burst through the door. They didn't have any time to dilly-dally, they had to move now.

He smirked, "Toss me."
