CHAPTER 52: THEY FLED

Suddenly from her peripheral vision, V saw a ball of light rushing towards her at an alarming speed, with size and speed V was afraid she might not make it out of the way in time.

She bent and gripped the collar of the axe man who lay unconscious on the ground. The other men were all aware of the situation and they were running out of range.

She pulled on his collar and winced, she had anticipated the weight but it still did damage to her shoulder and there was no time for her to say a spell that would make him lighter.

As soon as she had a good grip on him, she lifted him and tossed him as far as she could before she took off running herself. She managed to get out of the way by jumping to the ground just as the ball passed her.

It was obvious the ball of light was headed for one of the ships. Every single one of the men lined in front of it and at the top, the ship either fell to the sand or into the ocean as they all tried to get away in time.

A loud sound echoed as it made contact with the ship, blowing up a hole right in the middle. The rest of the ship could not hold at the huge missing part and it immediately started to crumble. It crashed into the sea, raising a huge splash.

V was far enough to avoid getting wet. She stood to her feet and dusted the sand off her body. She heard someone walk up to her and looked up to see Ameita beside her.

"For about a second, I thought you were not going to make it in time. You showed," she shrugged. "A reasonable amount of skill and it looked like you were going to kill someone. I wanted to prevent that and scare them at the same time."

"Then say that before you send a ball of black magic my way. Are you crazy? I almost died."

"But you didn't."

"I could have."

"You may leave, we will take it from here."

V started to walk away, she was pissed but she was more annoyed at the fact that she could not do anything about it. she walked a few feet away and grinned as an idea popped into her head. She slowly turned around and aimed.

Somehow, the axe was still in her head even through all that and she tossed it at the back of Ameita's head with all the strength she could muster. The demon did not dodge even though she could tell it was coming straight for her.

She caught it with the back of her head before it fell to the ground then she slowly turned around and picked it up. "My turn," she said with a smirk.

"Nah," V called back. "We are pretty much even, it is not my fault you could not dodge that." She shrugged, laughing awkwardly. She did not need anyone to tell her if Ameita threw it back, she would not escape unscathed.

"There was no need to."

"Want me to try again?" V asked with a nasty glint in her eyes. She would imbue the axe with as much magic as the gem could provide, she would see how the demon would receive such an attack and escape without a scratch.

"Sure, if I can try again."

"Your prey are escaping."

"Let them," Ameita said without turning around.

"Isn't that bad? They will come back with a bigger army."

"You really think so," Ameita smirked. "Don't worry your head about it. Your job here is done. Besides, if they do come back I will be ready for them."

V didn't say another word, there was no reason to. With the way the men were rushing into the remaining ship, it was obvious they had been traumatized even if they would come back, V doubted it would be anytime soon.

Ameita turned around and walked towards the unconscious man that V had tossed away. She picked him up and threw him, he land on the sand next to the ship. His comrades quickly helped him up into it and they fled.

When Ameita was certain that they weren't going to change their mind and come back, she headed back to the town. She found V sitting with Ki-an by the rocks.

"What are you still doing here? I told you to go."

"You don't get a chance to say that considering you pulled me out of bed and I started this, I wanted to make sure it ended."

"Whatever, I have to go make a report. Do as you like." Ameita said and started walking away, V followed after her.
