1 Prologue

I stared out the window to avoid my father's concerned gaze. He placed a comforting hand on mines and I almost let myself feel it. Quickly I pulled away from him and calmed myself.

"Honey, this is for the best of us both," he said.

'I know this.' Those three words never escaped from my thoughts. I wanted to leave this place behind. It held too many burdening secrets that I didn't want. Harbor Point was my own personal hell and I needed to escape it.

My dad let out a sigh and continued driving away. While driving, I was someone riding a bicycle as fast as they could behind us from the side mirror. I sat up slightly when I recognized the long blonde hair and the hideously pink jumper dress she loved. She waved us down, I saw her calling for us to stop and thats what we did.

"Dad wait!"

The older man stopped the car and I jumped out of the car.

Everly Addams ran to me and pulled me into a tight hug while sobbing.

"Please don't leave me too. I can't bear that, Mira! Don't leave me!"

I held back the emotions that tried to claw forward and pushed her away gently.

"Everly, lets stop this now." The blonde's face was now stained with tears and was red from crying.

"Amira?" I held up my hand to stop my father from coming closer and gave Everly an empty stare.

"Everly I have something I want to tell you before I leave. It's best this way," I prepared myself for what I was about to do. It was for the best, the best for us both.

"I am the one that killed Laurett."

Everly paused her sobbing and looked up at me in disbelief.

"Why are you saying that? You couldn't have-"

"I did. The day before she died we got into a fight. I told her that everything the others said about her was right. Every name that the others called her was true. She told me to leave so I did."

"You what? Amira how could you!? After everything we have been through you-"

"Because it was fun. I didn't actually think she'd kill herself but oh well. But the game ends now, I'm bored so I'll-"

The sting on my cheek came quicker than I could even register it. Everly was glaring at me now with a hard look in her eyes.

"You bitch. The girl you are talking about is my sister! You think peoples lives are just games? That you can play with others any kind of way? She considered you her best friend! She did everything for you!"

"Perks to the game I suppose. And she was your sister. She died almost a week ag-"

My other cheek stung more furiously. I was hit so hard my head whipped to the side.

"Everly!" My father was too my side immediately, pulling me away from the girl.

"I never what to see you again, you monster. If you ever show your face in this town again..." The malice in Everly's eyes was something new to me. Out of Laurette, myself and Everly she was always the most gentle one. It's as if she were someone else.

"I hope you rot in hell!"

With that said, Everly picked up her bike and got a running start before hopping onto it. I sighed and turned to leave but my father stopped me.

"What the hell was that, just now? What did you do?"

I looked forward instead of towards him, directly. He would always know when something was off if I looked him in the eyes.

"Something that had to be done."

I walked away from my father and towards the car. A single tear escaped from my eye and I let it fall. I refuse to cry now. The damages were done and so was my ties to this place.
