A team-up?

Once again, she couldn't take her eyes off his smile. But she couldn't help but think about his weird mood swings. She was glad he came in, else she would've lost consciousness.

What pricked her heart was the father-son duo beside her. There were times when she wished to enjoy being with her father like every other. Now she can only thank the memories left with her.

" Woohoo ! Cassy, that was a clean shot !" Abigail and Harvey cheered.

She smiled at them. " So what next? "

" Next is going home. Have you even been aware of the time? " Alexander said with a stern face.

" I see a bright future for you kids Alex, I'm proud of you. " Harvey said with fake tears.

" Did you also get drawn into her shenanigans? "

" Are you worried or are you trying to pick a fight? " Abigail's mind was tired but her physical strength was unlimited until he came in.

" See- " Alexander was about to nitpick when Cassandra spoke.

" Alright, let's go back. It's already late. "

Both sighed as Alexander had a smile of victory on his face. They decided to head back only after taking countless pictures together. As they walked back, Abigail felt as if someone was keeping an eye on them but decided to ignore it, finding no one there. She was familiar with such situations before and such activities were common in crowded places.

" Alexander Morris ", the woman mumbled, watching them. She collected all the pictures she took of them and went back to her den. While there , Alexander and Abigail were arguing about dropping Cassandra at her home.

" I can drop her since I've gotta go the same way, " Alexander said, trying to increase plus points.

" Why can't I? I'll just go back after dropping her ." She retreated.

" You don't even know where she lives. "

" And you do? " She catechized.

" Yeah, I have been to her home once."

" Holy mother of goodness, Cassy, you shouldn't have let this Grumpy nomad enter your home. You getting it? The world outside is full of wrecked alphas. You, the child of a divine soul, can't be this fragile." She said, shaking her shoulders.

" Get a hold of yourself, young lady." Alexander said, pulling her off. After resuming her poster, she stood stern.

" You see the pool there, Alex? " She pointed towards an empty space.

" There's no pool over there. "

" That's exactly the amount of trust I have in you. " She said with a straight face. While Harvey and Cassandra broke into laughter until they went out of breath.

Alexander looked dead inside dealing with her. At this moment, all he wanted was to throw Abigail into the deepest pits of hell. He inhaled a healthy amount of oxygen. " Harvey, this peasant has one last wish. " Harvey nodded at this. He picked up Abigail like a sack and threw her into the car.

" Please unload that heavy human at the respected place. " He said and went towards his car, tagging Cassandra along. He drove away before he could hear Abigail's tantrums.

While in the car, Alexander thought that was the best time to ask about everything. " So what did you want to talk about? "

" How did you know I wanted to talk? " She asked, being a bit surprised.

" Wasn't that obvious, darling? Who's the psychologist here now? " He chuckled.

" Hah.. Yeah, I met Mr. Gray today . He wanted to pass on some information about the Bennett Mafia since he was nervous to tell you directly. "

" Nervous ? " He was puzzled.

" Scared basically. Since you carry around a 'death-threat ' face, " she said, making air quotes.

" That's interesting. So explain about the details. "

" The mafia are working under the name of JN constructions, which you probably know. Their layouting caused a tremor, killing many workers under contract and stand by. One among them is his brother. "

Alexander hummed listening to it. It was true that he knew about this case. After all, he was the one who made arrangements for the layout. But then he had no choice other than to follow their orders. He regretted it, even after repenting by torturing himself , he still had the guilt of letting the poor people die.

" Did you look into that case ? " She asked, breaking the silence.

" I did, but there were no leads. It was all clean, as if all that had never happened. " He lied. After all, the ones that he handled were always perfectly closed without traces. It was his idea of settling the family of the deceased with a fixed sum.

" A sum of 12 million per family. Aren't you shocked? " He asked as he wanted to know her reaction

" I can't afford to be shocked twice a day, you know. "

Alexander laughed at her response. " You seem to have improved, Ms. Brown. Ain't a scardey cat anymore ? "

" All thanks to you, your highness ! " She said, making a finger purse.

" I'm blessed ". They both ended up laughing at each other until they reached her home.

Once they were in front of her home, she decided to tell him about the investigation too.

" Well, Mr. Morris, there's something more I wanted to talk about. "

" Can't be triggered , spill the tea."

" I'm going to investigate a case related to the Bennett Mafia. No worries, it's just a secret investigation even though I know I have no authority to over it. But I can't let it slide." Alexander was surprised to hear it.

He knew it could be dangerous, but he couldn't stop her from doing that. Moreover, she didn't know he was a former mafia executive. He was afraid that if a day came she would know that he was a part of the mafia that she hated, she might hate him too. The feeling that he least cared about was now overwhelming with fear.

" Well, I wouldn't dare deny the inner self determined in you. But once you step inside, there's no turning. If you are behind the truth, then you might get hurt while running behind."

" That's the real face of justice that I'm not scared of. At least not anymore, Mr. Morris. "

He smirked at her confidence. It was as if he was looking at his old self. The one that was determined to face anything, blinded by revenge. But the scenario was different here. This was much more than just revenge. Alexander, too, was waiting for an opportunity to pay back.

" Goodness ! Have I found someone equal to my stubbornness? " He jested, leaning towards his car.

" Jeez..I'm no match for your level."

" Since I grade above your level. Will you give me the honor to be your partner in crime, Ms. Brown? " He asked, extending his journey.

" Never knew you'd be interested in a commoner's journey. You sure about it? "

" Of course, as a lawyer I might be helpful, you know. Besides, we make a good pair. Don't we? " He said with a wink.

" I thought we already were? " She said, reminding him of what he said at the carnival.

" Oops my bad. "

They reached an agreement. As for Cassandra, there were times she wished the truth to be hidden, yet she had to keep going. Without the truth, nothing would be good enough. But she never thought that she had to team up with him to find it.
