THE DARKNESS BENEATH

We started off as nobodies with no purpose, money, family, or orphans. We were nothing to society. No one wanted us. Bullied, insulted, spat on. We were called filthy rats. My sister, Debby, and I had to fend for ourselves. We slept on the streets in the cold and ate leftovers thrown away by passers-by. Surely, the experience still haunts me. We are well off now. People bow to us and treat us like queens. They should have seen us then. I bet they would have done the same thing the others did. It’s been a journey, a sad and terrible journey. One thing I wouldn’t wish for anyone........

THE DARKNESS BENEATH

THE BEGINNING

It was night time and the moon was out in it's full glory, shining ever so brightly. We were having dinner after watching a football match between San Francisco 49ers and Seatle Seahawks with mom supporting Seatle Seahawks. Dad was just watching for the fun of it and so did Debby and I. Mom prepared a Chicken burrito bowl with rice and beans got us licking our fingers. Daddy was excited. Everyone could see how much he loved mom, it made me wanna grow up and get married. Yes silly me.

Thanks for the food hon, dad said to mom. It's a pleasure she replied. Girls, time to clear the dishes. Yes mom, we chorused. My sister and I started the dishes, then the unfortunate happened.

We heard Gunshots. Dad had a gun in his office which mom knew of. We were trained but not trained enough. Their main priority was to keep us safe. Didn't quiet understand what was going on so did Debby.

Get to the basement, dad shouted. That was when reality dawned on me, I had never seen dad so scared, angry and frustrated. I could swear I saw tears in his eyes. Could this be the end?, I wondered. At that moment I wanted to stay with dad. I wanted to fight with him even though I had no idea of why we were fighting or who we were fighting.

My heart was broken.

Mom got her gun from a drawer in the hall and led us to the basement. I saw the tears she tried so hard to fight back. Debby on the other hand couldn't keep it in. The whole house was in chaos. How could such a beautiful day turn this awful. Dad was left alone to fight. I couldn't stand it. The sounds of the gunshots weren't helping. I run out of the basement only to be welcomed by the sound of a blast. Dad was gone. I was numb,I couldn't move. Mom couldn't control her tears anymore. Debby was on the verge of having a panic attack. I on the other hand could feel nothing. I remember how scared mom was.
