You sure have heard stories about him , the mighty Sun Wukong. There are ones which state that he went with Tang San Zang to collect the Buddha sutras for Buddha. After he succeeded, he was became a buddha and stayed down. But there some stories which states that he was dead in the journey to the west. Or it never happened and it is just a story.
