1 Hunters

For the past 13 years, life had been fun for Jason, with friends and family being around.

But what made Jason who he was, was being a hunter. He loved the duties and responsibility it came with. It gave him a purpose in life. Being a protector of the town, he loved every bit of it. But few people knew about him being a hunter. Their lives were secret in the society

Since he was five years, he had known there were supernatural beings out there. They were responsible for ensuring innocent people didn't get hurt.

His training days always start with his dad Mr. Jayer Mackenzie and his night training with his mom, Miriam Mackenzie. His mom was versed in magic. She was a witch and a healer. Jason took some of the abilities from her.

For as long as he could remember, his days and nights were always training or hunting and school, of course. School is a different matter. He was a different person as well. Innocent, quiet, and weak.

In a training field, two men were battling. They wore black tactical military suits and boots with long monkey king sticks. One was an older man while the other was a younger man. The older man was throwing in stick strikes on either side of the younger man while he ducked and defended. It was intense, with both breathing heavily and sweating. It seemed they had been at it for hours.

"With this speed, you are going. You will die before you even ducked," Jayer shouted to his son. In training, there was never a son-father relation. It was a trainer and a trainee, "Being a hunter is a matter of life and death. You may go hunting it down and get hunted instead. What would you do when you are cornered? You have to be fast, tactical, creative, and always a step ahead of them," he continued throwing in another strike on his thigh, striking him.

Grunting in pain and frustration, Jason greeted his teeth," I had a bad day at school. It's infuriating," he said, pointing the stink up and striking it back down, leaning on it slightly.

"Still the basketball guys?" Jayer asked. He had known Jason and his friends were experiencing bullying. He tried to intervene, but Jason didn't want him to.

"Yes. But I can't hold it anymore. One of these days, I will put them in their place. I don't give a damn if their family are the top figure in town."

"That's my boy. Give them a beating. If there is trouble, ill handle it for you" Jayer parted his son on the should before giving him a hard strike. Jason didn't see that coming, but he defended and stroked back. The talk did the unblocking. He fought like his usual self.

At that moment, a call came through the radio call

"Code red. Code red. A werewolf has been spotted in the forbidden forest. A girl was found dead in the woods. We are enclosing on him. Requesting back up" The radio sounded

"Copy. We are on our way," Jayer responded, running back to their car. Jason was behind and hopped into the car before it drove.

They pulled into their driveway and jumped out.

Mr. Jayer ran inside and into the basement. His wife was working on an enchantment on weapons.

"Honey, we got to go. Code red in the forbidden forest." Miriam nodded, running to their room, her long black silk hair dancing in the air. She was a charming woman with a graceful body. She looked around 25, but she was way older than a hundred.

Don't ask me how. I don't know either. She is just a hundred. Probably, she will tell us about it.

She came out in a black tactical military outfit and a katana in her hand. She looked cool. Jason and the dad came out in jungle military boots, black military pants, and green jungle t-shirts. One could mistake them for army personnel. Miriam drove this time.

When it came to driving, she was the best. Soon they left their car at the edge of the forest and ventured in without reservation. It seemed they had done it for years. Their familiarity with each other and the environment spoke a lot. Being a great tracker, Jayer could locate the other, but it was too late. They were all dead and tone to halves. Some were even shredded to pieces.

"Look at their vitals," Miriam said, stepping on the dry rustling leaves and squatting down to check on one of them. He was dead

She heard a grunting somewhere else.

Being in a huge dark forest full of wild animals and strange creatures. She had to be careful. She walked on the grass and dry leaves, slowly making as low a noise as possible. She went behind a thick thicket before her. She could feel danger coming her way. She knew when she was in danger and when life was near her.

She could feel a life behind the thicket and, at the same time, danger lingering near. She mumbled something softly to the others with a hearing gadget in her ear. Jason and Jayer turned to Miriam. They pointed their guns in different directions taking cover for each other.

A step after the other, they walked to Miriam, full alerted

Miriam went round the thicket and stroked her Katana in defense in case she was attacked. To her surprise, a small kid was whimpering, hiding. She looked terrified. Who would not be terrified at that age when faced with a wolf? She looked at her and turned to her husband and son, nodding.

"Hey, honey. We are here. You are safe now." She said, placing her Katana back in its sheath. She squatted down and patted her small head. She smiled at the small girl offering her hand to her. The little girl seemed to be around ten years. Her clothes were wet and bloody.

Miriam looked over her body but didn't see any wounds. She thought maybe she had fallen on one of the bloody bodies they found.

The girl took her hand in hesitation, standing on her feet. Miriam seemed to have seen a smirk on the girl's face. Before she could do anything, it was too late.
