Chapter -14 ( Jishnu  - The Most Eligible Doctor in the Making)

As Anushka scampered down, Jishnu found himself standing in the sisters' room.

He moved up towards the table next and sat down on the chair for a look-around. It was a medium-sized room painted in light and dark pink. While three walls of the room were painted light pink, the wall, starting from the Northern end with the large mirror and curving towards the eastern end, was painted in deep pink. The wall stretched past the entrance door, ending in the attached bathroom at the other end.

A large bed separated the wall, near which he was sitting at the table, from the wall on the opposite side. The small, squarish wall at the top of the bed, contained a hut shaped photo frame made up of strings, with photos of the sisters arranged in rows of two to four photos. The triangular roof of the hut with the wooden base, hanging by a nail, was what was holding the photo frame of strings!

Jishnu had a strong urge to get up from the chair for a closer look at the photos. He could make out even from the distance the two, smiling photos of the sisters, somewhere in the middle of the frame. He turned his eyes along the wall to where it bent south towards one of the two windows of the room. This glass window had a singular framed photo of a handome person in a multicolored striped dress. He had his hands around the shoulders of a divine-looking lady seated in front. She had a baby wrapped with a golden robe, in her arms. Both the parents were looking down at the baby with an expression of sheer bliss on their faces.

The other large, curtained window was behind the dressing table adjacent to the attached bathroom on the right.

The cozy feel of the room made Jishnu think of his sister as Akanksha came in with a cup of sweet tea and a plate of snacks on a tray.

"Jishnuda, Ma has sent this for you," she said with a smile on her face.

"Tell aunti, there was no need of taking the trouble, actually." Jishnu told her in a friendly tone.

"This is no trouble, Jishnuda. Besides, you must be hungry coming as you are, straight from your class, " Akanksha replied. She only noticed then that the other chair was empty. "Where is Anu?" She was here when you came in, wasn't she? " Akanksha asked Jishnu.

"She was. But as soon as I sneaked in, she remembered having left the Maths book somewhere downstairs at your parent's and ran down to fetch it. She hasn't come back yet. " Jishnu told Akanksha.

"I'll send her back up," Akanksha assured him and went out of the room.

She saw her sister climbing up the stairs rather lethergically.

"Anu, what's wrong with you? How can you keep your teacher waiting like this? " Akanksha sounded a bit annoyed.

"I left my book in Ma's room, Mother Akku, " Anushka rebutted her sister. "You could have given him your company if you care so much for him!" Anushka was back to teasing her sister the next moment.

Akanksha did not answer her sister back rudely like her sister did and went down, asking Anu to hurry up.

Jishnu was looking at their last souvenirs from The GNH Country as Anushka stepped in. She had taken one full minute to turn the door knob from outside. It felt strange to know that he was inside. She saw him entering their house earlier. He was in his light blue jeans with a black shirt open at the collar, tucked in. There was no doubt in Anushka's mind, why, Jishnu with his curly backbrushed hair and the Rolland at his left wrist, was said to be The Prince Charming of CPS. Anushka also realized why girls literally, swoobed over each other, at the mere mention of his name.

She had barely got back in her room when she heard her sister showing him the way up to their room. Anushka had already chalked out a plan in her mind. She heard her sister speak to him in a singsong voice :

"That's our room. You go ahead, Jidhnuda. I'll be back soon. " Anushka heard the receding footsteps of her sister the next moment.

"May I come in? " She heard him knock on the door softly and took time to open the door.

"Oh, Bro Jishnu! " Then as if remembering something the next moment, she said to herself, "Today is Saturday. God! How could I have forgotten..? Please come in, Bro, and take a seat," She requested pointing to one of the chairs at their study table. "I'Il be back in a minute. " She told him banging the door shut behind her.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting, Bro. " Anushka's voice brought him back to the reality. Sitting down, she pushed the tray with the untouched snacks and the empty cup, to one side.

"It's all right. Let's get started with Arithmetic then. I remember you telling me last time that you find Algebra and Geometry "disgusting". That should make Arithmetic comparatively easier for you, shouldn't it? " Jishnu asked her.

"Bro Jishnu. Do you mind my calling you Bro, or would you like to be called Jishnuda instead?" Anushka asked him too politely for his liking.

"Bro Jishnu is fine," Jishnu cut her short.

"Thank you, Bro," Anushka told him. "Can I ask you one more question, please?" She asked as Jishnu looked at her questioningly and nooded.

"What is the meaning of JISHNU?" Anushka came out with the question that she had heard a group of XI girls discussing one day. "If you don't mind my asking again, why did your parents name you Jishnu? I'm sure you'll agree with me that Jishnu is not an usual name." She concluded in the same breath.

Jishnu looked at the girl for a full minute. She girl held the promise of growing up to be a beautiful woman one day. Her large, black eyes had something that made it difficult for people to ignore her. The look of insecurity on her face, made one wish to protect her from the evils of the world.

"I'm not sure. I never asked my parents. But a few months before my mother passed away… " Jishnu stopped here thinking of those wonderful days when his mother was alive, and carried on, his voice shaky with emotion, "She told me that both she and my father, wanted to name their son after a God or some gods rather. They could think of two great gods at that time. One Jishu, who is actually a son of God, and Vishnu, the Protector and Preserver of the Universe in Hinduism, My parents wanted me to have the Humanity of Jesus Christ along with the of protecting, preserving power of Vishnu." Jishnu stopped here recollecting how his mother looked ecstatic while trying to explain the origin of the name to him. She believed that her son would be a great human one day. A man very creative, intelligent, full of life and fun. Someone who will protect and preserve the family pride and prestige.

"How very sweet of your parents, I mean, your father and late mom, to have christened you with such a unique name. Let me also apologize if I hurt you asking about your mom," Anushka said hurriedly.

"You haven't hurt me, Anushka. The thing is I always feel shy to talk to others about my parents, especially my late mother," Jishnu said with a distant look in his eyes. "Anyway, let's not waste any more time talking about my parents."

" One last question, a question I couldn't ask on The PD Day. Did you always wanna be a doc, bro Jishnu?" Anushka asked not taking her eyes off the handsome bloke for a second.

"I did because it was my mother's kinda lifeling wish." Jishnu answered glancing down at his watch.

"Isn't it late already, Bro? Can't we start from the next day on?" Anushka suggested, putting her Maths book back in between books on her side of the rack.

Long after Jishnu was gone, Anushka was lying in bed, thinking about Jishnu's loving mother. But the person she couldn't keep away from her mind, was the awesome young man, Jishnu. In a way, he reminded her of Damon, the not-so-cool hero of TVD.

The day is not far off, sighed Anushka, when there would be a bee line of girls outside the young doctor's door, vying for his love.
