Married To The Tyrant King (I)

That moment, Princess Genevieve wore a terrified countenance when a maid anxiously stepped into her room.

"H-he's here, Milady...the King of Darkshire is here." nervously, the maid uttered. However, that was the last news the princess wanted to hear.

On hearing the maid's words, Genevieve's heart beat pulsated, sweats immediately covered her entire face and palms.

"H-he is h-here?" in a quivering voice, Genevieve disbelievingly asked the maid, wishing her words weren't true. However, in contrast to her wish, the maid nodded.

She felt her world suddenly screech to a silent halt. She couldn't believe it…. The man, she dreaded all her life, was finally here in the castle. But worse of all...he was here for her.

"Milady, your father, the king demands your presence in the royal hall." Revealed the maid.

The royal hall was the place royal events occurred. It dawned on Genevieve why she was being summoned, but she was terrified of even taking a step there.

"I-I cannot go t-there," she responded timidly.

However, the maid sighed hopelessly at her refusal. "Milady, the king has vowed to k-kill me if you don't comply with his orders."

Genevieve's eyes widened horrifyingly. Of course, her father had predicted her unwillingness, making him make such cruel decision.

When she gazed at the maid's eyes, she could see sadness in them, and she was certain her father would do it. She couldn't bear the thought of someone getting killed because of her.

"I will be there," she said to the maid as a conflicting look appeared on her face.

The maid quickly nodded, exiting the Princess room before she changed her mind. However, when the maid left, her eyes welled up with tears.

For the past few weeks, she had been forced to prepare herself for this moment, however, minutes to the occurrence, her resolve crumbled away.

"Sarah," Genevieve turned with sad eyes to the woman behind her, who was preparing her. She was her handmaid in her early forties.

Equally, the woman had a conflicting look on her face, but when the princess sadly looked at her, she feigned a smile, softly calling the princess, "Eve,"

Unable to bear the emotions within her, tears began slipping down Genevieve's cheeks, and Sarah immediately hugged her to coax her.

Though the king had warned her handmaid to prepare her without having any emotions attached with Genevieve, she couldn't watch the Princess' saddening situation without comforting her.

In the woman's embrace, Genevieve sobbed hopelessly, "I-I don't want to d-do it, Sarah. I c-can not do it."

"I believe in you, Milady. You can do it." Sarah responded encouragingly.

Genevieve shook her head in refusal at Sarah's words. However, thinking about her fate, it only made Genevieve more emotionally affected, triggering more tears to fill her eyes.

All her life, she constantly dreamt of today. The day she would get married to her soulmate, who would genuinely love and care for her. However, that day finally arrived, but rather than excitement, a heightened sense of dread and sadness filled her entire thought.

Certainly, she would get married today. But no, he wasn't her daydream. Rather, he turned out to be the most tyrannical man in the entire continent, and his name alone….. Brought terror to her.

Maximilian Blackthorn… The infamous King of Darkshire.

Growing up in her teenage years, Genevieve heard stories of a certain King, rumored to be a monster in human form. He left trails of blood, Everywhere he went, torturing his prisoners and giving unimaginable pain to them. The whole Kingdom of Darkshire was terrified of him, and everyone fled for their lives at his presence. But most of all, it was said that the king wore a mask from birth, for a reason unknown to everyone.

Hearing these stories, she had developed fear towards such a person, but she could never have imagined she would one day be offered to him as a bride.

Genevieve clutched the sides of her white wedding dress in trepidation.

"He's evil Sarah," she reminded Sarah about his cruel nature, "What if, what if he kills–"

"Eve, he won't, I promise." Sarah quickly interrupted the Princess from imagining such negative thoughts.

"Milady, what if there is a worse fate than marrying the king of Darkshire?" Though she didn't want to, Sarah had to ask. She wanted to make the princess see a reason to obey her father.

But of course, Genevieve knew there was a worse fate….. If she failed in marrying him. The thought of what the King of Darkshire and her father would equally do to her, made shivers run down her spine.

"It was, Father. He didn't give me a choice."

In her father's maddening lust and greed to conquer Kingdoms, no one would have ever imagined the king making a deal with such a devilish monster to help him. Unfortunately, in exchange for the alliance….she was offered as his bride.

However, she knew her father hated her and never cared about her, just like the rest of her family. Her feelings we're never considered. This was why out of her two sisters who were beautiful and properer than her, and fit for royalty, the king ended up choosing her.

But unfortunately, being married to the king, was no less than being offered as a sacrificial lamb. She knew it might not be long, before she would end up being killed by him, like other people, and no one would ever care.

Thinking about this, she could only curse her fate.

"I-I really don't know what to d-do, Sarah." She helplessly stuttered.

"I know, Eve.," She responded, making Genevieve momentarily look at her. "Have faith in the Messiah, milady, The king won't harm you."

"H-he will n-not?" She asked with uncertainty.

"Yes, Eve. I believe that the heavens will protect you," Uttered Sarah.

Genevieve sighed. Sarah was right all she could do was place her faith on the creator of the heavens to save her. Maybe the Messiah would touch the king's heart not to kill her.

Sarah placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, wearing an encouraging smile. She looked at Genevieve's beautiful face ruined by tears and sweats.

"Let's clean you up, shall we?" She asked Genevieve, who gave her an obedient nod.

Genevieve watched Sarah softly clean her up. When she looked through the lustrous mirror, she could see how beautiful she looked, yet this didn't matter to her.

"Let us go, Milady, the king will be waiting for you." said Sarah after she was done, "Remember why you have to do this, Eve."

"I-I will," Genevieve gulped. She took, Sarah's hand and they both exited the room.

Soon, Genevieve found herself walking down the large corridor which led to the Royal Hall. Normally, all Royal brides had an escort which led them down the aisle, except Genevieve who had none but her handmaid…..but maids were forbidden from entering into the royal hall.

When they arrived at the gigantic door of the hall, Sarah turned to her. "I will be taking my leave now, Milady. I wish you good luck."

She gave Genevieve and encouraging smile and bowed at her, before leaving. Seeing Sarah leave, Genevieve felt her heart beat thunder against her chest.

"You have to do this, Genevieve." she whispered to herself. As if sensing her presence, the large door opened in the next moment and from a distance, Genevieve felt the villainous eyes of a tall masked figure on the altar snap to look at her.
