Shifting

To make me forget the pain of my broken heart, my mother planned to take me to Aunt Nancy's Pack to stay temporarily. 

Aunt Nancy was my mother's sister, the Luna of Silver Lake Pack. Even though Silver Lake Pack was not a big Pack, the rural environment where the Pack lived was beautiful. The people of the Pack were also very friendly to foreigners. Our Pack, Red Moon Pack, was not that far from them. It was only a day's travel by car, and we arrived at our destination.

Aunt Nancy and her husband, Alpha Juan, welcomed us warmly. However, as soon as my mother and I sat down, Aunt Nancy reminded us that it was best not to move around thoughtlessly while we were there, as the royal army camp was nearby the area. I heard that they were looking for heretics that were attempting to rebel.

When Aunt Nancy mentioned the royal family, she specifically gave me a look. Then, she whispered to my mother that the royal family was looking for unmarried women all over to participate in the annual concubine feast, even though the prince had not found his mate among these girls for several years.

Many of the girls who were eliminated from the selection were secretly taken away by nobles. Some were even forced to become their sex slaves!

That was why all the packs were very resistant to the prince's concubine feast, but because of the royal family's authority, everyone could only get angry but keep it in their hearts without uttering a word.

Aunt Nancy wanted me to stay at her estate until the royal army left, and I didn't dare refuse her instructions. I didn't want to be caught and forced to participate in some concubine selection feast. Of course, I wouldn't be the prince's mate. Who would accept a woman without a wolf? 

Oh, I felt sad again once I thought of that.

It was the most boring trip ever. I simply sat in the garden every day, and it did nothing to heal the pain in my heart.

About a month later, my mother received a letter from my father, and he begged my mother to return home as soon as possible because he needed help preparing for Susan and Jack's wedding.

Obviously, my mother disagreed at first. But then Aunt Nancy reminded her that the marriage was about the alliance and development of two Packs. Moreover, the royal family would also be sending representatives to attend the wedding ceremony to inspect the development of each Pack at the same time. An Alpha's marriage was closely related to the Pack's stability, which would also be included in the royal advisor's investigation.

Eventually, my mother decided to return on the second day after receiving the letter.

The night before we left was a full moon, and I leaned against the window to look outside. A meandering river flowed behind the manor, and the moon hung high in the night sky. The moonlight spread across the river like a silver ribbon flowing slowly. It was a gorgeous sight! 

The beauty before me captivated me, and I imagined myself as a fish swimming in the river. 

Suddenly, a bold thought entered my head. I would make this vision a reality!

I slipped out of the manor's back door. The feeling of freedom was exhilarating! I ran along the path towards the river!

When I stepped on the soft, green grass, the smell of the forest wafted into my nose!

Suddenly, a bright white light flashed before my eyes, and I looked down to see the emerald necklace glowing strangely under the moonlight. Heat spread across my body till the tip of my fingers.

It was so hot!

My body was burning, and I could even hear the sounds of my blood pumping through my veins. The wind rustled in my ears, and it felt like a powerful force was about to burst from within my body.

She was here! My wolf was finally here!

I was going to start shifting, and I felt elated and excited! Just as I stripped off my clothes, I heard my bones snapping as they transformed. 

Fortunately, the entire shifting process was not long. I ran wildly through the forest when I finally turned into a wolf.

Shirley. That was my wolf's name.

I continued to run, and I saw a group of fireflies scattered in the grass before me. More fireflies gathered together and gradually formed a low wall of light. I rushed in the direction of the light as if obsessed. 

However, just as I was about to break through the wall of light, a tall shadow suddenly appeared from behind it! I was so frightened that I came to an abrupt stop!

A pure white wolf slowly walked out from behind the wall of light, and he was huge! The white fur on his body seems to glow under the fireflies' light. His eyes held a sharp glint of overbearing and arrogant, like a king.

He stared at me and approached me, and I retreated as he came forward.

I was terrified. I was so small compared to him and worried he would assume I was prey. If he really wanted to kill me, I'm afraid I wouldn't have a chance even to fight back!

A faint, grassy smell mixed with the aroma of pine woof drifted into my nose. It smelled so good! However, my fear didn't disappear. I had to run away before this mighty wolf pounced on me!

Just as he was about to reach me, I dug my paws into the ground and swept dirt upwards into his face. He was caught off-guard, and I took the chance to run!

I ran as hard as possible and didn't dare stop even for a moment. The sound of the wind blew harshly in my ears, and my eyes were fixed on the direction of the estate. Every other obstacle in my way was insignificant!

My running speed and jumping ability were excellent during my escape process!

Fortunately, the other wolf didn't give chase, but the howls he released behind me made me shudder in fear!

However, when I finally reached the manor, I found that I had lost my necklace!

D*mn... I must have lost it while I was running away! I didn't dare to go back and look for it. If I bumped into that big white wolf again, I was afraid I might lose my life!

I stayed up all night, praying in my heart that it would dawn soon so I could get out of here as soon as possible. 

But that unique scent still lingered in my nose.
