1 Hatchlings Arrival

At the foot of a mountain lies the entrance to a large tunnel like cave, various flora and fauna grown over it, leaving little light to seep through the gaps. Within the cave, stalactites of differing sizes hung from the ceiling and further in led to a larger cavern, moonlight shining down from the top right of the cavern, coming from a large crack. To the opposite side of the crack, a large pool of water remained, the moonlight shining down on the water, reflecting onto the walls of the cavern. Besides the pool of water, rests an egg standing 6ft tall, adorned with blood red scales and accents as black as the night sky, the moonlight from the crack reflecting off the water onto the egg caused it to shine beautifully, as if it was emanating a red glow.

Crack

The eggs shell began to fracture.

"Hm? Is it hatching? A melodic female voice came from the darkness, filled with anticipation.

A deep resonant voice responded "It would seem so"

A large vibrant crimson dragon emerged from the darkness behind the egg, it's horns long and slightly curved up, it's eyes burning a fiery bright gold, each containing a black slit focused on the egg that sat significantly smaller than the dragon. Getting closer to the egg, the dragon inspected it, seeing more cracks spread across it's surface.

A joyful smile formed on her face, her eyes filled with warmth and contentment "it's time, it's finally time" she excitedly roared.

Another dragon emerged, it's scales black, only showing a hint of an iridescent green when touched by the moonlight. The left side of it's head had a long scar running from it's horn to just beneath it's eye. The dragon had 2 horns protruding from the back of it's head, the left one broken and cracked, the other, large and straight. 2 more smaller horns sat beneath the larger 2, slightly curved down. The black dragons eyes shined an emerald green, calm yet beautiful - the dragons signature black slit pupil stared down at the egg, waiting patiently for it to hatch.

With a final resounding crack, the top part of the egg fell off, revealing the form of a dragon, tiny compared to the 2 giants standing before it.

From within the broken egg, the baby dragon poked it's head out, revealing it to have sleek black scales that shimmered with a subtle yet mesmerising purple iridescence. 4 small horns sat at the back of it's head, 2 of them smaller than the others. It's eyes a fiery purple that poked around the cavern, until it turned around to see it's parents looking down at it.

"Oh she is just the cutest!" The red dragon was filled with pure joy and she grew closer, admiring the newborns iridescence "it seems she mostly took after you. There's not even a hint of my beautiful red scales" she said slightly dejected.

The baby dragon looked up to its mother, readily putting it's front claws onto it's eggs shell and swiftly pouncing onto her mother's snout. Revealing it's back to have long thin spikes running down it's back, each of them connected with a dark grey sail, similar to it's mother.

"Well aren't you a playful little one" the red dragon remarked, gently waving her head around as if to encourage the baby to play along.

"Hmm." The black dragon thought to himself for a moment before speaking "its odd how shes barely taken after you, especially considering your long lineage of red dragons. As for the purple... It must be from my mother; she once told me it signifies a strong magical aptitude"

"That's reassuring. Her scales do seem unusually soft for a newborn, which is concerning, she's also slightly smaller than most newborns. Hopefully, we can teach her magic so she can defend herself" the red dragon stopped waving her head to put the baby dragon down. After sliding off her mother's snout, the baby ran over to her father, stopping Infront of him and looking up as he loomed over her. The black dragon had sat down at this point and the baby copied him, sitting there staring at him. The black dragon proceeded to raise his right claw and she followed suit.

"We should probably give her a name" the black dragon pondered for a moment before continuing "Since she has been born on a full moon, how about Luna?"

"That's not very creative" the red dragon retorted.

"I'm sure you don't have any better ideas" the black dragon chuckled, knowing they both don't have the best naming sense.

The red dragon stuttered "W-well if you get to choose her main name then I get to decide on the rest of her name" she pondered for a few minutes while the black dragon continued to amuse himself with his daughter.

"How about we combine elements from both our names?" The red dragon suggested, a hint of excitment in her voice. "It's a tradition my family has done for generations. We can take the 'fyr' from my name and the 'reth' from yours, making Lunafyreth" she looked to the black dragon a proud smile spreading across her face.

(Pronounced 'loo-na-fih-reth' or however you prefer)

"Certainly" replied the black dragon, his deep voice resonating throughout the cavern "Lunafyreth... I quite like the sound of it. A name that honours both lineages"

The red dragon approached the newborn, gaining its attention

"I, Fyrielle, daughter of the great fire dragon Igniel, The Dwarven Furnace-"

The black dragon interrupted, Fyrielle looking at him, pouting "and I, Verethorn, son of Eldania, The Guardian of Yggdrasil, together we grant you the name, Lunafyreth"
