1 The crying clouds (Prologe)

Water droplets fell from the sky, and the cold air was making her shiver.

"Hey."

Glancing to her left, she saw the man who had gotten her into this situation.

"What do you want?"

He let out a sigh and combed a hand through his hair.

"I thought that maybe you needed help."

The Female closed her eyes and thought about it.

Her clothes were wet, and she could feel her nose running.

"Alright."

The man smirked and suddenly black mist surrounded him.

Every normal person would run for their lives, but not her, she was used to it after seeing him like this so many times.

On his back were two big black wings and his skin color turned white as snow.

"Hold on tight, Princess."

The nickname slipped past his lips as he took off with her in his arms.

"Why are you back?"

The words left her mouth and she stared at him, trying to understand what his unten were.

"I couldn't bring myself to do it."

Was all he said as he kept his gaze away from her.

After a few minutes he landed before her home.

"Here we are..."

He thought it was easy to forget her, but he couldn't be any more wrong.

Without words she approached her door and stepped inside the house, leaving the man standing on the sidewalk.

"Goodnight..."

He mumbled and shifted into his human form, a single black feather fell to the ground where he stood.

Turning around to walk away, he failed to notice that the front door of the home had opened again.

"Wait!"

Her voice was higher than usual, and it spunde like she was begging him to stay.

Her mind was screaming at her to let him go, but her heart was stronger.

"Do you... Do you want to come inside?"

He turned his head in her direction and a small smile was dancing on his lips.

"You sure? I don't wanna intrude."

The sky was still crying, and occasionally a few rumbles were heard in the sky.

"I'm sure."

She wasn't sure.

He entered her home and looked around.

No matter how many times he had seen the rooms, he still was amazed by them.

"I'll make us some coffee-"

But he had grabbed her wrist, and she looked away.

"I'm sorry."

His heart twisted in pain when he saw the tears beginning to form in her eyes.

"I am so sorry."

He knew he had messed up but this was his last chance at forgiveness.

"Please...let me go."

He could barely hear her voice, she was trembling.

"Look, I messed up okay? I know. But I did it to protect you."

She lifted her gaze to look into his eyes, a frown visible on her face.

"Protect me?"

Her voice was dripping with venom.

"You didn't do this for me, you did this for yourself! And I was stupid enough to believe those empty words I heard from you every night!"

Slowly he let her wrist go.

"I have to go."

He had a distant look in his eyes.

"This will be my final goodbye, and this time I mean it."

He had reached out a hand to her face, wiping away a single tear that had fled from her eyes.

"What do you mean?"

Her voice cracked and she knew, she couldn't hide her feelings anymore.

She softly pulled him into her and buried her face in his chest. Her small arms barely reaching behind his back.

He couldn't form any words and then she felt his body shake. Looking up, she saw his eyes squeezed shut while he wiped away the tears that poured out from his eyes.

He buried his face in her neck and sobbed while she rubbed his back.

"I love you."

He knew that she wouldn't answer him, but he was happy to hug her one last time.

Then they parted.

"Don't do anything stupid okay? Don't sell your soul to a demon again."

He forced himself to smile, he had to be strong for her.

"I'll see you again right?"

Hope was filling her body, he would come back...right? Like every time he went away...

But when he opened the portal and turned around, all that hope was crushed in an instant.

A sad smile was on his lips and he shook his head, trying to hold back his emotions.

"Goodbye princess, I hope you'll find your happiness."

With that he was gone, and she couldn't believe it.

"You're joking, right?"

Panic filled her veins and she rushed to the spot where he just stood moments ago.

"If this is one of your cruel jokes again, it's not funny!"

Her head snapped in every direction and looked for a sign that he was still there with her.

Then she remembered the single piece of paper they both had signed once.

She rushed to a drawer and saw the paper, but his name slowly disappeared.

At this moment she knew, he wasn't coming back.

He was gone.

"Is she dead?"

A deep voice asked and the man nodded.

"I... I took her soul."

He was lying, and he knew what sort of punishment awaited those who dared disrespecting the demon king.

"I see..."

The king looked at him, his eyes narrowed.

He knew he could never see her again, but at least she would be able to live a normal life again.

After he left the human world, the clouds never stopped crying, and she didn't either.
