1 A Failed Mob Confession?

One day, a mob by the name of Cid Kagenou lost to a bet from his two friends, Po Tato and Skel Etal.

They were average friends of his who were like him: a Mob Character.

During the day, he is Cid Kagenou, the mob character that will face many cliches and suffer their consequences, for the sake of experiencing them personally!

And during the Night, he is Shadow! The Master of Shadow Garden, the most stylish Bandit Slayer, and the strongest and coolest person in the world.

Oh, he wished he could see Shadow personally in the eyes of the boy named Cid Kagenou, it would be most fantastic!

But what bet did he lose to? Cid merely scored lower than his friends in all the examinations. Although it was completely intentional, it was all just a mere story progression for him.

"Dude, remember our bet, okay! Tomorrow, you will confess to a Princess of Midgar Kingdom!" Po spoke confidently, as both him and Skel were very confident that he would be rejected.

Originally, they specifically will make Cid confess to a certain albino haired princess, but on this story, they didn't.

"Well.... A bet is a bet."

'A princess, hm? Okay! I can't wait to be rejected by that certain princess! I wonder what will she say? Will she kick me? Will she slap me before shouting something that will make any mob cry!?' Was definitely this crazy kid said to himself.

You'll get used to his personality eventually. After all, he does have the boner for personally experiencing cliches from different works.

And so, at the next day nothing much happened other than Cid and co. staring at Alexia who recently rejected a confession to a mob character.

"See her, Cid? Princess Alexia is one of the two princesses of this Midgar Kingdom, and a princess from the country of arts, Oriana Kingdom, Rose Oriana is also a good pick!" Skel spoke, intending to see who Cid will confess to.

At this moment, Cid scratched his chin.

Three princesses, one goal. Who will he pick?

Alexia almost looked like one of those Tsundere types of people, cold on the outside, soft on the inside. She's perfect for this job.

Rose Oriana, while being a princess from another kingdom, she's pretty much a blonde, drill haired girl with an above decent figure fit for a heroine. She's also perfect for the job, but she was kind of a Side Character to begin with.

And then there's Iris Midgar. She exudes a great amount of Main Heroine energy, one who is also like Alexia, but doesn't really have that Tsundere personality.

She looked like a stern heroine that had a pure heart that cares for others, even more to ones who were close to her, and while the previous two were candidates, Cid already picked her.

Why? Because he thought he knew Iris would reject him because he is just some total stranger.

"I'm going to confess to Iris." Cid spoke, surprising his companions who were staring at him with awe.

"Is that so, Cid! Then, we'll be rooting for you!"

The day passed in a mundane manner, before Cid began to look for Iris Midgar while his companions followed him.

They asked several students, even an old man that actually was the President of Midgar Academy's science department that knew where to go.

At least he was kind enough to give them directions.

Sooner enough, Cid stood in front of a door blocking his entrance to Princess Iris' room.

He cleared his throat, before raising his hand to knock thrice.

"U-Um.... Princess Iris? Are you here?"

"Come inside, the door isn't locked." Iris voice was heard from inside her room, which was a signal for what is to come soon.

'Alright! My moment has come!'

Cid entered the room, leaving Po and Skel behind to eavesdrop at what will happen soon.

"Hey, Skel."

"Hm?"

"You think Cid will be rejected?"

"Considering her personality, he definitely will be rejected."

"Right..... Princess Iris is always working for the kingdom, and she might be really stressed out at this moment. That means that Cid is going to confess at the wrong time!"

The two began to giggle while trying to hold back their laughter. They would even wonder what his face would be like afterwards.

Maybe he might be beaten up by Iris?

If that happens, they'd essentially worry about Cid's health.

Iris shuffled through some of the papers on her desk, and these said papers were more about the academy's stuff than political stuff, and she wasn't worrying about it.

She was about to finish stamping the last three papers, so she immediately hurried while Cid had entered the room.

Once she was done, she fixed the papers before taking short glances at Cid.

'He looks like a totally a average student. What was he going to do now?'

For a moment, Iris felt a bit interested at what Cid will do.

"So, what is it?" She asked, and the totally average student began to scrunch up, looking embarrassed while an obvious fluster was on him.

His next action was to bow in front of her and confess at such a strange way that she was left surprised.

"I, I, I... Errmm.... Princess Iris! I really like you, so pl-, pl-, pl... can you please go out with me?"

".... What?"

She recoiled in shock.

For two years, nobody has ever confessed their feelings to her, and while she was still a mere student of the academy, she remembered many hundred confessions from students.

And at those times, it felt tiring. So tiring that she didn't hesitate to reject their confessions.

And at those times, it felt tiring. So tiring that she didn't hesitate to reject their confessions and proposals.

Ranging from mundane, average ones...

"Princess Iris! I, Wilby Rijektud wishes to be with you!" The Marquis confessed, and it was unimpressive.

At that time she knows these types of people, ones which her father always told her to reject as they may only cause harm to everyone.

And also to even overly exaggerated confessions from nobles and commoners, some which honestly felt like they had effort put on it.

"Oh Great Princess whose deep crimson hair burns like flames rising to the sky! Please, let I, Bob Bobbertovich be with you till death do us part!"

"Forgive me, but I have too much to do." Iris replied, sighing deeply as she turned around to leave the man alone to grieve.

This was merely one of those exaggerated confessions.

It was pretty much a joke to her if a mere stranger confessed and proposed to her. That would be stupid.

At that point, she wondered: Where can her Prince Charming be?

She's read stories about knights in shining armor, most of those being the Prince Charming, at least, her worldview of the said Prince was shattered upon the moment she read a rising star Author, Natsume's works in romance.

There is no prince charming, only that man who has the right heart and personality to attract many women.

And here came Cid Kagenou. Who suddenly confessed to her with an exaggerated, yet genuine confession that was very believable. She hasn't met him personally until now, but she knew a bit of him.

Naturally, she should've rejected him immediately. Yet at this moment, why won't she entertain herself with the boy?

Clearing her throat with a small cough, she leaned forward, and the student recoiled back a bit.

"State your name."

"C-Cid Kagenou, Ma'am."

'So he's Claire Kagenou's little brother. A complete total opposite. I heard that she once broke the arms of her opponent after he decided to insult Cid in front of her. Poor guy.'

Because nobody has ever confessed to her for a very long while and (maybe) she was just being bored out of her mind, and she didn't really have anything to do other than do paperwork.

She supposed she could take a long break, the ones in the Crimson Order could take care of her jobs every once in a while.

She stretched her body for a short while, before standing up and walked towards Cid. Her face beginning to beam up as she gazed on his figure.

"Let me ask you again, are you truly confessing, or not?" She asked, moving even closer to him.

"Of, of course!"

Iris held his hand, and smiled at him.

This smile was noticed at the last moment by Cid, and her response was totally unexpected.

"Fine, just don't disappoint me, otherwise you'd be left black and blue!" She stated, her smile becoming dangerous at her last sentence.

Naturally, he is dumbfounded but was definitely surprised.

'That was unexpected! Still, that's a challenge accepted by our wonderful Mob Character: Me, Cid Kagenou! I'll definitely disappoint you, Ms. Main Heroine!'

He looked like he froze on the spot, so Iris fixed his body and patted his face. Left with no other choice, she moved her face closer to his ear.

"What? You want a kiss from me? You'll get it once you pass my tests. You're dismissed."

"Eek! Th-Thank you, Princess Iris!"

"Just Iris, you don't have to use honorifics to address me."

With that out of the way, Cid left in the mobbest way possible, eventually meeting his companions.

Skel was slouched, feeling quite down as he put his hand on Cid's shoulder.

"You might be the luckiest or the unluckiest person I've met, Cid...."

"Err... Why?"

Po grabbed his jacket and shook him with great force.

"You dumbass! We're starting to regret letting you confess to Princess Iris! Damn it.... It would have been better if you confessed to the beautiful Princess Rose Oriana, or to Alexia Midgar!"

".... Sorry, but what's done is done."

Cid only hoped dating with Iris wouldn't get in the way of his role of a mob, or even as his role as Shadow, his true self.

However, this action of his will eventually bring his role as a "NPC" to a short halt.
