Chapter 6: Black Beauty (I).

Chapter 6: Black Beauty (I).

"Oh lovely-! Well then you may take your pick!"

Miss Charlie Green kindly pointed at all the available horses they have urging Rowan to take a pick at their pride and joy of breeds. "We have here our horse Peanut, great with stamina and speed when it comes to running."

As the two walked together side by side, every time that Rowan took interest in a horse Miss Charlie would cheerfully explain each one of their traits.

"And over here is Coconut, a fine horse but hard to tame. A good military grade companion like her is hard to find, she can jump the highest out of all of our horses but she's rather slow."

"A-Ah… I see." (Rowan) mutters out rather nervously, seeing all of these horses that were out of her budget made her feel heavy and hesitant of even looking at them.

"I know a lot of these horses, each one would suit you if I'm being honest!" (Miss Charlie) smiles so kindly as she replies.

"I don't want to trouble you but… I suppose which one out of all of your horses that- no one likes." (Rowan) scratches the back of her neck, thinking that if she finds a horse that no one wants the price she needs to pay would be lower.

Miss Charlie hearing her request for what horse she wanted made her think, "A horse that no one wants? Are you sure about that? If it's a horse that no one else wants we sure have em."

The red haired girl was happy to hear that there was one available. "I would like to take it if you wouldn't mind."

Surely Miss Charlie would give her the weakest, cheapest and uncoordinated horse in the herd. "I'm… not sure if you're goin' to like this, you see- instead of telling you it would be better if I could show you why."

The young miss of the estate leads her to another pen, it was an open field pen where a few workers were tending to groom the horses such as cleaning, brushing the horse's manes and fixing their horseshoe by replacing them with new pairs.

Clack! Clack! Clack!

The sound of metal pounding could be heard as they got in, the other caretakers of the horses waved at the young miss. It wasn't very unusual for her to visit but the new handsome visitor caught them off guard.

"Young miss, welcome! Is that a guest with you?!" An elderly worker yelled in greetings as Miss Charlie waves at them.

"Yes, this is my guest. They saved me from a bit of trouble in the city and I heard that they wanted a horse so I'm going to introduce them to Spirit!" She replied loudly so that the elderly man could hear her.

The man hears what she said, introducing a stranger to Spirit- the untameable horse, where many buyers ordered for it to be returned as well as refunded for being a disobedient horse because no matter what they tried they couldn't tame it's will of steel.

"Spirit- our black beauty, going to introduce it to this man you say?! Hahaha! Goodluck lad! This I gotta see!" The elderly worker called out the others, proposing that there would be a show coming soon in the open pen.

"Hey everyone, a young lord is going to challenge our black beauty!"

Rowan, hearing that she's been mistaken for a man again for a few times, decides to give up correcting the people around her and turns to the young lady of the house, curious to know more about the horse named Spirit.

"Spirit? Is that the horse's name?" (Rowan) asks, getting a little curious of what kind of horse this way.

"Yes and it's the one you're looking for in a horse with just one problem." She leads her in the fence of the pen, pointing at a black horse, with its long lustrous mane and dark brown eyes, black skin, and wholly black hair coats.

It was Majestic.

Spirit was Majestic!

"Mrrrph!" (Spirit) trots around the pen, noticing the new face by the fence. He ignored the woman and stopped to eat some grass on the side.

"Is that Spirit?" (Rowan) asks, feeling a little connected to it. With the way the majestic steed carried itself, looking a little lonely and brood- perhaps this was her dream companion. "H-How much?"

"No one wants it so my daddy has been contemplating on giving it for free- even releasing it into the wild." (Miss Charlie) frowns, thinking what great waste of a horse Spirit was. "Spirit here isn't born here, his old owners were abusive when he was just a foal and was only gifted to my father for breeding."

"Now… Spirit isn't going to let anyone tame him. That's why, he's free to take- but only if you can tame him." She explains and Rowan feels bad for it, hearing Spirit's horrible history but it only made her want to be with him.

"I see…"

Rowan only needs to tame it.

"I'll do it."

Miss Charlie blinks for a bit not understanding why Spirit is deemed to be a horse that will never be moved by a human. "Y-You will? There are really other horses available in our estate-"

"I was… I was also like Spirit in the past. I'm sure we can negotiate." (Rowan) pleads, taking a few bits of her money before presenting it to Miss Charlie. "Please let me have him."

Miss Charlie Green sees her money and shakes her head, declining it politely because honestly she has no use of her money. "Oh it's alright darling. You don't need to pay me anything."

"Rowan… let me give you a tip. The old owners say that anyone who can last in the saddle for more than thirty minutes, Spirit would usually obey them but the only person capable of that has passed away." When the horse's owner passed perhaps that is when the mistreating started happening.

"If you could tire him out perhaps then he will see you as his new owner." (Miss Charlie) advises Rowan who gives a determined smile, it seems that the girl doesn't plan on giving up on her plan to have Spirit as her new mane companion.

Rowan tucks in her sleeve and adjusts her collar, not planning to leave any time soon, not until she tamed black beauty. "I will do my best."

"Such a shame your new clothes will get dirty." She eyes the tall figure out from head to toe, she could tell that this is one built fine stranger, one that meets her preferences.

"Sigh… but I do like girls who don't fear the dirt." The young lady of the house could almost swoon as Rowan gets inside the open pen where the horse, the black beauty named Spirit, was minding his business eating some fresh patch of grass but not until he hears unwanted footsteps on his territory.

"Mrrph."

"Hey, there." (Rowan) observes the horse and notes down all that she can, what could be the quickest way to tame this one?

All of the teachings of Sir Arthur when she was back at the estate while she was being taught horse riding was to never show your fear in front of your steed, to gain trust one must earn it. "And one of the ways to do that-"

Rowan immediately catches the horse off guard running towards its side, quickly sliding and jumping up to get on its back.

"-is to stay on its back for long!"

"Neigh…!"

Spirit started bucking wild, neighing and whipping his tail trying to get the human off of its back. "Hngh!"

Rowan tried her best to stay without getting thrown. She also made sure to not hurt Spirit in the process of taming, "Come on!"

The young lady of the house stayed outside of the fence but she couldn't believe what this girl was doing! She really didn't expect how serious she was of wanting Spirit that badly.

"Don't get thrown off now! I'm rootin' for you!" (Miss Charlie) yells, catching all the other caretaker's attention. "Yeah get em'!"

The elderly ones watch in awe as the girl manages to stay on Spirit's back for more than three minutes now. They never thought Miss Green's guest would be trying to take down their black beauty today.

"Oh my, what's happening? Isn't that a young man trying to tame our Spirit?" The ruckus caught quite a few of the servant's attention.

"A crazy man that's what. Arnold's back was broken by Spirit just last week just trying to ride him to get inside the fence, we had no choice but to use lassos to pull him in." An old grandma squints her eyes to get a better look at things. "Hold on now', that one looks easy on the eyes. I'll be rootin' for em to win."

"Ugh old hag… is the young man winning?"

The black horse started jumping, even walking backwards to try and tip her off using the fence. Rowan realized what Spirit was planning to do and immediately told all the watching bystanders to move out of the way.

"Move- move! Miss Charlie, get out of the way!" (Rowan) could barely cling on, she slips by the side and in order to keep the bystanders safe she pulls the horse with all of her ounce of strength to move into another direction.

"...!" She didn't realize in doing so she slipped and came rolling down on the ground.

Rowan groans in pain, "Ungh…"

"Mrrrph!" (Spirit) trots over Rowan after she slips. "Sniff… sniff."

"We should probably get her out." (Miss Charlie) orders some of the servants to grab a lasso and catch Spirit while Rowan escapes. "Hold on there, Rowan! We'll get you out of there!"

Rowan stays still, holding out her hand to stop the people that were trying to save her. "No-! Please don't interfere."

"What?! Why?! You might get hurt some more if you already slipped!"

Spirit became uninterested and headed on over to the side. Rowan takes this chance to stand up and dusts herself hoping for another round. "I'll be fine."

She stares down at her leather shoes from the generous wealthy family of the Green, realizing that it was one of the things holding her back she decides to take it off and gently places it down on the ground.

"..." (Rowan)

The bystanders watching suddenly became amazed. "Amazing like a true man he takes off his shoes."

Many of the servants inside suddenly went out to the farm just to watch Rowan after hearing the news spread around the estate like wildfire. "I can't believe a young lord would take off his shoes like that."

"I know, isn't that sort of dare I say, attractive?" A maid fans herself, suddenly finding herself being immersed watching the guest take on a wild horse.

The maid beside her nods but not until she realizes something seems wrong with that statement. "Wait are you getting turned on just by seeing his feet-"

The maid stares at her for a moment before looking away. "No comment."
