Kal Turns On The Group

At the center of the hall, glowing with a mesmerizing red light was a pool of swirling crimson liquid. It invoked a contrasting sensation on those who laid their eyes on it, it was a sight both captivating and horrifying.

The swirling crimson liquid laid in a well, made of a deep black material that absorbed all the light that shined on it, the liquid pulsed with an unnatural energy.

Silax noticed that it wasn't only the sight of the liquid that was enchanting, but it also gave off an intoxicating smell. It took some effort from him not to rush towards the well and deep his face into it.

They were all standing right in front of the well, clueless on what the swirling liquid was.

"What is this supposed to be? A reward for our friends that were killed?" Tommy asked, the anger in him causing his voice to be raised.

He wasn't asking anyone in particular, he just wanted an outlet to vent the emotions he had been holding in.

Alarynn was the only one who had reacted to the death of their friends, he had been trying to stay composed.

Even while they had been tending to Chad outside, Tommy hadn't said anything regarding the two that died.

Nobody answered, not only because they didn't have an answer to the question, but because they knew he wasn't expecting one either.

Kal dipped a finger into the well in a relaxed manner, just like his usual self. Then he put the finger in his tongue, licking the blood off his finger.

As soon as he did that, Silax noticed that his unusual red eyes became brighter for a split second.

Suddenly Kal began to laugh boisterous, his shoulders were bouncing along with the rhythm of his laughter.

"This is it; this is what the clans are searching for, and I found it."

This startled the group causing each of them to take a step back, Silax was the only one who had a clue why Kal was reacting this way.

Immediately some things began to make sense to him, but those also brought along with them some more questions.

'There's a possibility that Kal's vampyre. That would explain why all that he consumed on our journey here was whatever was in his flask, which I now suspect was blood. If he is a vampyre, how come he had been fine under the sun? He didn't show any reaction or act differently when exposed to the sun's rays. Does that mean there is a point in which a vampyre becomes immune to the Sun?'

Terrified and confused by Kal's behavior, Tommy walked up to Kal and grabbed his shoulders.

"Hey, Kal what's wrong? Snap out of it."

As abruptly as his laughter had started, Kal's laughter stopped. He looked into Tommy's eyes, the playfulness he usually carried himself with, now gone.

"I'm sorry, but you all have to die now."

"What are you-"

Before Tommy could complete his sentence, Kal's hand sliced through his neck. His head flew into the air, a stream of blood surging out of it. By the time the head landed on the floor, Kal was already in front of Alarynn, his hands grabbing onto her head.

Silax was the quickest to react, he threw two of his knives at Kal. The knives got embedded into his flesh, one in his shoulder and another in his neck. Kal did not seem to notice the attack.

He simply twisted his hands, snapping Alarynn's neck. She hadn't been able to react, not even to summon her pangolin, the shock of Tommy's head spinning in the air had left her frozen.

Kal let go of Alarynn's body, letting it fall listlessly to the floor. He turned around to face the remaining two who were standing close to each other.

As soon as he turned, an arrow of flame hit him in the face, knocking him back a few steps.

Elara had just fired one of her flaming arrows at him, although she had been late to react due to been caught off-guard by Kal's actions, she had quickly shaken the surprise off.

Kal stumbled back a few steps before stopping himself, he looked at the two who looked back at him in defiance.

It was in this sort off moment Kal would usually say something carefree and nonchalant, but he seemed like a different person now.

He pulled out the knives in his arm and neck, and he launched himself at Silax. Kal was faster than Silax, but Silax's battle style had always revolved around reading his opponent and using their strengths against them.

Kal aimed his fist at Silax's jaw, but Silax anticipated the blow. He weaved out of the way of the attack with the ease. Kal's fist whistled past him harmlessly, the momentum of the punch carried him forward a few steps.

Elara, seizing the opportunity, unleashed a blast of wind directed at Kal. The wind struck him from behind, sending him stumbling slightly. He recovered quickly, his brow furrowed in annoyance.

He knew this wouldn't be a straightforward fight, he had to first get rid of one of them. The synergy between their fighting styles was high enough to give even him some trouble.

He turned around and launched himself forward again, but this time he aimed for Elara.

Elara swiftly summoned a gust of air which pushed her upwards into the air, she landed on one the arches of the pillars, successfully avoiding Kal's attack.

Silax, back in his fighting stance, took advantage of Kal's momentary lapse, he darted forward and aimed a series of quick strikes at fatal points on Kal's body.

Kal, with an impressive display of his quick reflexes, managed to block most of them, the clang of his forearms against Silax's strikes echoing through the hall. A couple of strikes still landed tough, sending streaks of blood flowing through Kal's limbs and sides.

Kal roared, unleashing a raw display of strength. He grabbed Silax's arm mid-strike, a look of surprise taking over Silax's face.

With a powerful jerk, Kal flung Silax aside like a ragdoll. The pull sent Silax crashing into one of the pillars as a pained grunt escaped his lips.

Elara, seeing Silax wounded and on the ground, rained down a volley of arrows towards Kal, but Kal danced around the flaming projectiles.

Kal spotted a gap in the rain of arrows and with a powerful leap, propelled himself towards the hidden attacker.

Elara was caught off guard and barely had time to scramble further up the pillars before Kal could reach her.

Kal clung onto the pillar, readying himself to attack again. Elara knew she was in trouble and immediately unleashed a powerful blast of wind that knocked Kal off balance.

He landed hard on the floor, the wind momentarily knocking the air out of him, but he was tougher than that. He rose up and shook his head to clear the dizziness.

Silax, meanwhile, had used the distraction to hobble back to his feet, a determined look in his eye. He had no plans of dying today.

Kal faced them both, his chest heaving. He knew he was the stronger opponent, but their teamwork and use of the environment was pushing him. A grudging respect for their tenacity flickered within him.
