CHAPTER THIRTY: HEATED DISCUSSION.

The air got tense as Kevin and Ben glared at each other, Gwen was about to step in but Ben came in front of her. He exposed his Omnitrix and prepared to slam the dial.

"Oh, I see, you didn't only grow taller but also dumber!" Kevin teased with folded arms.

"Oh, you are in for it now Kevin!" Ben replied angrily as he slammed his hand on the dial.

But before he could even hit the dial, Gwen caught his hand and slapped the back of Ben's head, "Way to go doofus, we are at the front of your house now, what will your parents think seeing an alien brawling with another… well don't you get it?" Gwen scolded as she tried to expose the young man to a concept that many know about but don't use… 'Common sense'.

"Ah… oh, my bad." Ben apologized as he backed off.

"I think you should thank her more than that, I almost beat you up and in your own house to boot! Haha!" Kevin chuckled as he walked over to Gwen. Ben swallowed this one this time and didn't reply since he would rather reply physically than with words.

"So, what were you guys doing snooping around in an alien spaceship? Up to no good as usual?" Kevin asked as he leaned on his car.

"No. We were investigating aliens who were trading high-level alien tech. A plumber followed us but he died." Gwen said as she revealed a plumber badge but not the badge belonging to the plumber who died.

Taking the badge and inspecting it, Kevin added, I could get some info out of this and…

"Get your hands off Grandpa's badge!" Ben shouted.

"Hey kid, cool off. Gwen, can you control your cousin for me?" Kevin asked, increasing Ben's anger in the process.

"Hold on Ben, I think he is trying to help." Gwen tried to reassure the hot-headed Ben.

"Listen here Kevin, we are not joking around! Grandpa is missing, and we need all the clues we can get to find him! I can't trust you with something like that!" Ben said calmly but with a tinge of coldness in his voice.

"Your Grandpas missing? Why didn't you say so earlier? I could have had Raven in on this, and she could have found your grandpa in minutes if not seconds! Guess we will have to do this the hard way. And Ben, I'd be careful with your choice of words, I am doing this as a favour to Gwen. It's been long since we last met and I am only helping no I am only doing this as a welcoming gift to her." Kevin said sternly to Ben which caused Gwen to bow her head to hide her blush.

"Now, what are the clues you've found so far?" Kevin asked.

"We saw a recorded video of Grandpa telling us not to worry, that he has the Omnitrix and it's safe with him but it was a lie since Ben has it." Gwen added.

"And where did you find this message?" Kevin asked.

"In the van." Gwen answered.

"Let's go then." Kevin said as he gestured to the passenger seat and opened the door for Gwen.

"Oh, thank you." Gwen said smiling as she sat on the passenger seat.

"You can sit at the back." Kevin said to Ben without looking at him and went to the driver's side.

"Tch, that's the only option available genius." Ben shot back and took his seat.

"So how did those aliens look like? Do you have any of them in your Omnitrix?" Kevin asked as he drove.

"No, I don't see them in here, not that I know how to work this thing anymore." Ben said as he turned the dial on his Omnitrix.

"Maybe after you grow a few more brain cells Ben." Kevin smirked.

"Who won our fight again? Oh, I remember, ME!" Ben shot back.

Sighing at the immature quarrel, Gwen added, "Knowing Grandpa Max, he's probably at a restaurant eating space cockroaches or something."

"It's a wonder those things haven't killed him." Gwen joked as she turned her head back at Ben.

"HES NOT DEAD! Stop making jokes about him!" Ben scolded Gwen but then the tires of the Mustang screeched as Kevin drifted to a stop.

"What the hell's wrong with you? I never expected you to be happy to see me, that's a given? I am only here as a favour to Gwen, that's two! Thirdly, don't talk to her like that!" Kevin said sternly while pointing at Ben.

"You're getting on my nerves, Kevin! I WILL TALK TO HER ANYWAY I WA…" Ben shouted but called himself down when his brain replayed what had just escaped his mouth.

"As much as I hate to admit it, you're right. I am sorry Gwen." Ben said with his head down while Kevin took a look at Grandpa Max's plumber badge and recalibrated it a little.

"I know you are worried about Grandpa, we all are." Gwen said in a comforting voice.

"I just don't know what to do, if Grandpa were here he would know what to do." Ben said lowering his voice.

"It's like working with a child. Grow up Ben, the world's not gonna wait for you to sulk at the corner till your Grandpa magically comes back. You have the damn Omnitrix on your wrist, the most powerful device in the universe! If you want him back then go get him and stop whining like a little girl! No, scratch that, I take that back, you're even worse. It's like I am driving a kid who wants his ice cream." Kevin jeered.

'Geez, I am beginning to sound like Khan?' Kevin thought and shook his head.

"Alright, alright, I know. Let's go find Grandpa!" Ben said with resolute.

"There, we know who took the plumber badge of the deceased plumber or someone with a plumber badge. With this, we should be able to track plumber badges and find some clues. If Raven were here, this could have been done instantly." Kevin complained as he drove in the direction of the detected plumber badge.

"So, we are not going to Grandpa's van?" Gwen asked.

"No, this should be better. Buckle up, it's going to be a long journey."
