Never Did He Care When She Cried (14)

It had been half a month since Shi Che left home.

This time, Ling Chuxia had not dared to call him and ask when he would come home. She shuddered whenever she recollected the night he flew into an outrageous fury.

The sole consolation during this fortnight was that Mrs. Shi did not summon her back home to listen to her lectures. Perhaps it was due to Shi Che's previous visit. As long as she was spared of her usual ordeals, Ling Chuxia was able to heave a sigh of relief.

Ling Chuxia's lifestyle was no different from other upper-class ladies. She had no need to go to work. Her daily routine was to serve her hubby well. However her hubby…had mostly stayed away from her, and she was unable to fulfill her duty. Hence her days were void and empty. It was fortunate that she enjoyed a quiet and peaceful lifestyle and was not bothered by boredom.

This was the rainy season in the city of Liangcheng. It could rain for an entire day. The torrential storms were irritating. Luckily today was a rare clear day.

The sky was brightly lit and the sun rays were unlike other scorching days. Today's sunlight was warm and gentle.

Ling Chuxia had few hobbies, she was passionate about gardening. Before her marriage, Shi Che had requested for a piece of land beside the mansion, to build a small greenhouse for Ling Chuxia so that she would be able to tend to her beloved flora and fauna in her greenhouse.

It had been raining for the past few days and her plants had missed the sun. Today's splendid weather was an opportunity for her plants to get some sunlight. Ling Chuxia had busied herself all morning to move her plants out to the deck for sun-bathing.

When Ji Xinxin's phone call came in, Ling Chuxia was bustling around–with folded trouser-legs and gloved hands–laboring hard, and soaking with perspiration while she was busy moving her potted plants around.

Mrs. Zhu passed her cellphone to her. Ling Chuxia clipped the phone between her ears and shoulders. While panting for breath, she answered, "Hey? Xinxin?"

Very swiftly she heard Ji Xinxin's throaty and seductive voice from the other end of the phone. There was her usual signature nobleness and aloofness. "What've you been up to? How come you're panting? Are you up to no good with that bastard?"

Ji Xinxin had been always candid and direct. Ling Chuxia, reserved and conservative, was embarrassed. Her fair cheeks blushed, "Xinxin, stop your nonsense, what are you blabbering about?"

"Hehe, stop being coy with me. You're already a married woman, and no longer a naive young girl!" Her tone playful and promiscuous, teased, "I reckon that you and that bastard have been naughty all this while!"

Ling Chuxia's bashful cheeks were covered with redness. She was rather slow and less witty with words. She was no match for Ji Xinxin, hence she remained reticent and quickly changed the subject. "Xinxin, what's up?"
