CHAPTER 25

The lightening zombie let out a roar while facing a certain direction, a wild violent vibe escaped its body for a brief moment before it retracted it. For a few moments after that, it stood still as a statue and observed. Satisfied with the result of its observation, it headed to the darkest part of the room and sat quietly. No matter how anyone looked at it - from its appearance to its behaviour and manners - it seemed to be a normal human. of course that however did not mean that it was a human, after all the deep black eye bags and some other physical features of a zombie was enough to tell any normal person that it was no a creature they wanted to be getting involved with. Besides at that moment, two zombies stood like attendants at the side. It turned out that the lightening zombie was beginning to form a sort of hierarchy of its own where it would be 'king'. The zombies however were just swifts because the level one combatants - weak as they would seem before the level two combatants - were still rare. Only in the most populated parts of the world would they be considered at least a bit of usual sight as there was bound to emerge a combatant in every ten thousand swifts at the moment. Taking a city with a population of twelve million, there would be quite a few combatants.

At that moment when the lightening zombie was resting, in a certain building a group of people were sitting together in discussion. The topic of their discussion was actually how to kill the lightening zombie and take its crystal. Naturally they were the ones that had intruded the territory of the lightening zombie and were now prevented from leaving. Whenever they tried

to leave the territory, the roar of the zombie would ring out as if to warn them to return which was actually creepy looking at it from a different perspective.

"Honestly, why won't the zombie just eat us like it is supposed to do?." One of them asked. "Seriously it would be easier to find a way to deal with it if that was the case. . .."

At that moment, the discussion had come to a dead end because the motive of the lightening zombie seemed to be quite different from that of the other zombies. Instead of pouncing on the and eating them one after the other, it left them to do whatever they wanted as long as they didn't try to cross the boundary of its territory.

"Perhaps it is a part of their evolution process?." Stephen - the leader of the hunter group - suddenly spoke. Throughout the discussion process, he had been silent and only spoke at that moment. The fight - or rather the 'drama' - the other day had been deeply imprinted in his mind and he could still see the teasing looking in the lightening zombie's eyes as it rained attacks that didn't actually hit them. No other explanation seemed to fit the scenario other than that. "No matter the case, I think I know what to do." He said.

The teens were having a jolly time as they continued to search for supplies, after their fight with the ugly combatant they seemed to have forgotten that they were still in the apocalypse. As they were travelling through a particular village however, they noticed an anomaly. Normally there would be zombies attracted by the sound of their vehicles that would chase them as far as possible before losing trail of them, but from the moment they entered the territory of the village they had no so much as heard the groan of a crippled slow walker, not to talk of a swift or combatant.

"Can someone tell me where all the zombies went?." Kardi J asked. It was just too weird for them to look around them and not even smell a zombie in a 'Zombie Apocalypse'. No matter how pleasant it was supposed to be, they just couldn't feel it because they unlike most people that had spent the majority of their lives in a sanctuary, they could be said to be true 'apocalyptic' fellows because they had been more in the field that in a building - leaving their training time apart.

The farther they travelled through the village, the stronger their feeling of unease grew until they were gripping their weapons with whitened knuckles and crackling finger joints. Little did they know that their guards really had to at least be up to survive the shock from the brain freezing sight they were about to witness.

Three days back. . ..

"Son don't worry, we should have enough food to keep us going for another week or so." A woman said to a boy of about ten years. At that moment they were walking on foot according to the directions on a map. It was quite obvious that they were looking for a particular place and the map was their only guide. Beside them, a man was trying hard to keep up. His sickly eyes, the heavy pants and the sluggishness in his footsteps were enough to tell that he was no in a healthy state. He was one of the unlucky fellows that were going through their power awakening process outside of a sanctuary and was ill equipped to guarantee his safety. Actually his story had some ups and downs to it.

Back to a few weeks ago. . ..

"No!!!. . . Run!." A sanctuary was facing the threat of zombies overtaking. Chaos was the only word that could be used to describe the sanctuary's situation as people were either busy running or fighting for their lives. A man ran across the sanctuary completely ignoring the situation around him. In his hand he had a pistol with which he blew the heads of the zombies that got too close to him. Finally, he got to a small shabby looking house and kicked the door open.

"Sabrina! Jason!. . . Where are you?." He called out. Without waiting for a reply, he was already inside searching about frantically.

"Jonathan, we're here." A woman's voice sounded from behind him, pausing his search. Turning around, a woman and a child stood together looking at him with differing expressions. In the eyes of the boy, fear was mostly present as the chaotic atmosphere of the sanctuary sacred him and he held tight onto the woman. The woman however had a loving expression on her face, dressed in combat outfit with a melee weapon to join, she stood there quietly and gazed upon him with love. With rapid movements, Jonathan rushed towards them and embraced them with laughter. His fear of separating from them had been resolved, it was time to get away from the sanctuary while they still could.

Back to three days ago. . ..

Sabrina was trying hard to hold herself from breaking into tears, all her hope seemed to be crumbling as she looked at the map and cast a quick glance at her son and husband. If only Jonathan didn't start to go through the evolution process, everything would be so easy for her. She not only had herself to look out for at that moment, she also had to look out for her sick husband who was already putting himself through so much stress by walking himself - just to make sure he didn't have to lean on her - and her son. Suddenly, the man collapsed.

"Dad!." The boy shouted and ran to his side. Actually it was just an instinctive reaction for the boy to scream, but in a village where there were no activities going on and only zombies were inhabiting apart from them, it was just the worst thing to do. The silence in the village was broken as the word 'DAD' echoed throughout. First there was silence, then the horror came!.

Zombies in their multitudes began to appear from every corner of the village and headed in the direction of Sabrina and her family, despite the numerous that appeared more were still on their way.

"Jason run!!." Sabrina shouted to her son and pointed in the direction of a building with the least number of zombies in its surroundings. With great effort, she carried Jonathan on her back and thanking God for his loaded pistol began to run after the boy. The pistol served its purpose right as she used it to blow the head of every zombie that got to close to her or her son.

Without waiting an heartbeat, she kicked the door open and dropping her husband to the floor locked it. The zombies however continued to rush towards the house and soon their groans filled the air so much that Sabrina needed to shout when talking to her son.

"Push the tables and chairs to the door!." Only after speaking did she have a chance to take a good look at the sitting room they were currently refuging in. it was not all that large and did not have a lot of furniture that could be used as a blockade for the zombies - which somewhat disappointed her - so she just had to make do with what ever little she could.

Back to the actual story. . ..

The teens continued to journey through the village in total confusion and alertness. There were only two reasons why an area would be completely free. The first was that there was a combatant in the area and it had chased them away, while the second was that something had attracted them.

"But how loud or enormous must something that attracted all the zombies in the village be?." Basit asked. As their vehicle continued to move, they began to hear faint sounds that sounded like zombie groans. Moments later, the sound was now loud and clear enough for the teens to know that they were the zombies that they wanted to see so badly. At the same time however, the zombies that had flooded the area also began to hear the sound of the vehicle's engine and head towards them. The teens raised their weapons with loud war cries as their vehicles moved to meet the zombies . Swiftly the colour of blood filled the area and the strong metallic scent of blood became the order of the day. Thankfully the majority of sanctuaries had reinforced their vehicles to suit the era and made sure each metal used had a certain quality. The zombies growled and

groaned while the teens did the slaughtering exercise. The zombies were just slow walkers so they didn't even require too much strength to be wasted before they wore diced. The real surprise however was when the teens turned the corner.

At that moment, the teens really felt a chill run down their spine and they almost turned cold.

"Damn!." They thought as those behind shouted at the drivers of their respective trucks. "Get us outta here please!."

It was really a crazy situation to have hundreds of zombies on ones tail, no matter how wild their thoughts were, the teens didn't dare believe that they could do anything to those zombies without casualty.

"What sort of bad luck was following the person in that house when they left where they were coming from?."

"I still feel shaky, like those zombies are still here."

The teenagers were unable to get themselves to their usually cheerful manners. As they saw the number of zombies following them, they could only reassure themselves that there was a reason why the zombies were gathered in front of the door. They had to go back there to check. "Hey Josh, slow down abit so we can lure the zombies farther away." Rose said. She was the only one who wasn't thinking of what secret lay in the house, when the truck rounded the corner, she already knew that it was compulsory to check the house no matter what. It was a duty they had to fulfil by nature.
