266 Utmost guilt

Present:

Xavier's reason made sense yet she couldn't understand this rising feeling of fear in her heart. 

Maya looks at him confused and stammers "I-I don't know what to say-"

Xavier hushes her softly "Don't".

Maya watches him smile while caressing her hand. He stares at their hands holding each other as if savouring the memory of this beautiful feeling before speaking faintly.

"I know you are already overwhelmed with everything happening here. This marriage..., this sudden war and politics. Still, you are doing your best for us. I won't ask you to let all this go and love me back instantly".

His eyes look back at her face and he smiles gently.

He just stares at her for a few moments as if hesitant to speak out his heart completely. But he sighs as he buried his inner struggles at least for this single moment. If he missed this chance to confess to her, then he would never be able to do that!
