Chapter Three

Mary's POV

Mary stayed home from school the rest of the week and her concussion got better each day. Her knee hadn't concerned the nurses since it had only looked scraped but now it started to swell and really hurt to walk on. Mary winced as she barely touched it and it felt warm as if she had fever in it. She sighed as she looked at the clock. Bella wasn't due home for another two hours and their dad was at work so she had nobody to ask to take her to the doctor's office to get it checked out. Mary racked ger brain and then grabbed her phone dialing the hospital's number and a nurse answered. "Is Carlisle there?" she asked not knowing who else to call. His children was at school and she didn't know any of them so she couldn't ask them to take her to get her knee checked out. The transferred the call over to his office. "Hello?" he answered and Mary looked down at her knee biting her lip nervously. She hadn't seem him since the accident but she had been thinking about him the whole time and was nervous about seeing him again. She had immediately known right off that he was very handsome like his 'foster children.' but they didn't make her heart beat so fast just by thinking about them like he did. "Hey...I was calling because my knee is getting worse instead of better and I'm scared it could have gotten infected." she said and she heard a gasp on the other end of the line like her voice had startled him. "I'll be right over to get you so I can take a look okay?" he said and Mary said okay and hung up waiting on him. She only waited a few minutes before hearing his car pull up. She had gotten up to answer the door but Carlisle had beat her there and opened the door worry clear on his face when he walked in. He gently walked over to her and placed his hands on her shoulders making her sit down. "Show me your knee so I can see what needs to be done." Carlisle said and looked down at Mary his thoughts jumbled with worry. Mary did as told and Carlisle looked at the swollen knee. It was very red and had a few pieces of gravel that he gently picked out but it wasn't infected just very irritated and looked like she may of pulled or tore something. "You should clean out the wound and ice your knee for a few days and see if the swelling goes down." he diagnosed. "If it doesn't I'll recheck it and make sure you didn't tear something on the inside." he added. Mary nodded and got up as Carlisle got ready to leave. "Thank you." she said and looked up at him. Carlisle gently smiled placing a hand on her cheek. "Of course.." he said his voice different than normal like he was fighting the urge to do something though he didn't look like he was thirsty or in pain like Jasper had when she first saw him. "I..I can't stop thinking about you." he admitted once he saw the curiosity in her eyes and knew that she must have seen the look on his face or read his thoughts again. Mary blushed deeply since admittedly she had been thinking about him too. "Me either..." she admitted and Carlisle sighed deeply. "I shouldn't be here...you're underage for one but the biggest worry of mine is if I or one of my family hurts you." he said and Mary touched his hand that was still on her cheek. "I know but they won't...and can see in your eyes the you won't hurt me." she said then sighed at the underage part. "I'm 17 and I know that's underage but...I don't want to wait almost a year for..." she trailed off not sure where this thing between them was going but she didn't want to wait to find out. "To be together." Carlisle finished her sentence for her and she just nodded blushing again. He let out a sigh and them pulled her into a hug. "We'll figure this out okay?" he said gently. "But you can't tell anyone." he said knowing how people may react. "I wasn't planning to." she said knowing her dad would flip out. Carlisle had to go and Mary sighed as she watched him leave but she did as instructed cleaning her knee then put ice on it. Bella came home early that day and her face looked slightly green and Mary didn't hear the truck. "Alice is bringing it after school...I got sick during blood typing." she said and then went upstairs to her room. Mary just shook her head and layed back on the couch to relax. Her head was swimming with thoughts of Carlisle. He was 6 years older than she was not counting vampire years which she didn't want to think about. She sighed curling into a ball on the couch falling asleep. She woke up a few hours later and smelled food. Bella had made steak and potatoes for Mary and their dad and then did something else for herself. "Thanks sis." she said sitting down and stuffing her face realizing she was starving. She hadn't ate anything all day and the steak was delicious. She finished before Charlie and Bella had eaten much of anything. "May I be excused?" she asked wanting to finish her homework that she had missed while being out that week. Charlie nodded and she went upstairs and to her desk. Mary got to work on having a little bit of math left. She was done in a few hours and got up going to bed. She had just went to sleep when she sensed Carlisle there as if in her dream. For once she didn't have nightmares and wake up screaming clinging to her mom, Bella, or Charlie.
