36 One Step at a Time

*GENERAL POV*

The sun beat down on the small village. It had no name just a group of people trying to survive in this world of gods and monsters.

The villagers dug for hours upon hours each day just trying to find water. They had crops but little to no water. They had people and little food. Things weren't looking good for them.

They thought about moving, it was something they all thought about, but doing so could prove deadly. Slavers, bandits, government soldiers and everything else in between. They had found a place to stay small and very little protection, but it was better than nothing.

They dug in hopes of finding water, they dug to quench the thirst they feel daily. They dug to find water so they could water their dry crops.

But no matter how deep they dug, no matter where they dug, there was no sign of water.

Today was no exception, they dug knowing that they would most likely find nothing. They dug for hope.

Dirt was flung into the air as bare feet scurried about moving dirt. One of the village members stopped as he stabbed the dull shovel with a broken handle into the unbelievably dry dirt.

He looked up, he had no reason to...but, he just had a feeling. Not like the feeling he had when his previous village was raided by bandits. This was...different.

In the sky a figure floated above them wings were behind them and they seemed to absorb the light around them. A pure black spot in the sky.

When he saw this figure, he paled and fell to his knees. He had heard of them, beings that could fly, and lift mountains with ease but, he had prayed to whomever would listen that he and his would never see one for as long as he lived.

He couldn't speak, he couldn't breathe. The only reason why he didn't pass out was because of the overwhelming fear he felt. What did this thing want? What could they do?

Would the heroes in America come? Or would they be left for dead? He supposed it didn't matter because the figure seemed to raise its hands.

Before he could let out a warning the figures hands stopped as if he was waiting for an embrace of an unknown being. Behind him a cry brought him out of his thoughts.

He turned, expecting to see a dead body or a monster in the village. But what he saw was truly shocking. Water, pure water.

It wasn't muddy, it was as clear as crystal, and was gushing out. The ground around began to sink. The other villagers backed away from it starring at the...miracle.

A larger reservoir was soon formed and filled with clear water, and fish that seemed to form out of nowhere. The sound of upturned earth made everyone turn and stare in shock at their dead field.

A slight green glow covered the ground as the vegetables that they planted grew at a rapid rate. Where they didn't have enough seed to plant random plants grew trees that produced different fruits, and vegetables that they never even saw before.

Looking at the miracle that happened before his eyes the villager looked back up to the sky. The being that could only be a God was gone traces of black smoke the only sign that he was ever there.

He had to tell everyone in the village of what he saw.

The Wilson's were a small family of three, they were a middle-class family with a lovely ten-year-old daughter. They lived in a nice house in a nice neighborhood.

Truly average and happy. This ended two years ago when a fight between a villain and hero wrecked their small town and put their daughter on life support. The mother and father were devastated and worked tirelessly to pay for the hospital bills and visited whenever they could.

Today was a rare day where they both could visit on the same day. They sat there wordlessly looking at their daughter thinking of happier times, and dreaming of when their daughter would wake.

They were told many times by the doctors that she had little to no chance of waking, but they couldn't give up like that...not on her, never on her.

They sat there each holding a hand smiling sadly at their daughter. The calm and sad atmosphere was brought to a halt suddenly, and soundlessly. Both mother and father turned standing between this...thing and their daughter.

It was pitch black and seemed to absorb the light around it. Different writing some they understood and others they didn't. The writing covered its...armor blade like wings were spread out behind its back. The mother leaned over and pushed the button that would call a doctor in case of an emergency.

They wanted to scream, they wanted to warn this thing so it would back away, but no words came forth. They looked scared but ready to protect their daughter.

It raised its hand towards them, towards their daughter. The father stepped forth his wife and daughter behind him. The mother covered her daughter with her body trying to protect her.

In less than a blink of an eye it was gone, purplish black smoke the only sign it was ever there. Doctors rushed into the room asking what's happening. Chaos filled the room as the parents tried to explain what happened.

One voice stopped the chaos...the voice of a child.

*KEN'S POV*

Alex: "HAHAHAHA *GASP* HAHAHAHA! For the love of God please tell me that you didn't do that on purpose! HAHAHAHA!"

Ken: "Fuck! Will you shut up!"

I had been practicing going all out. The big problem with me doing so was that I had a hard time controlling my thoughts, so I unintentionally do things I don't mean to...like teleporting in the hospital, or above that village.

I just started doing this, after I found out that my quirk was acting up. In hindsight I should have done this the moment I got here but I put it off. There was no excuse just me being a bitch and not doing this.

Getting rid of my armor I sat down on the bed and closed my eyes. Alex was laughing in the background at misfortune. I had gone out as Ronin a few times fighting here and there but I spent most of my time going all out trying to get a better hold on my quirk.

I had of course went and spoke to my clones and caught two still with the people they were training with and the other three scheming against me. It was a bit funny but what really got me was the fact that some of the memories weren't coming through. I knew that they were panicking and were trying to find me, but I had no idea that they were getting ready to involve the League.

It was honestly concerning but at this point it was just another shit to add to my turd sandwich that was my life. Thinking back, I should have known about Cane's plan for Conner, Klay and Tea but I didn't.

I should have seen it, but I was too caught up in my on shit that it got passed me. If I concentrate, like really concentrate I could recall those memories but it's like my mind purposefully hid them from if that makes sense. Like my mind acknowledged the fact that my clones wanted to hide these things from me and did it.

We're my clones influencing me subconsciously, wanting things hidden from my notice and my brain just, did it? Or was I just letting things slip by me?

Falling back onto the bed I stared blankly at the ceiling. The bed sinking slightly let me know that my hallucination sat on the bed with me.

The hallucination of my brother was weird as fuck. My clones didn't notice it nor did anybody else. He interacted with me and the things around me normally but when we were around others, he was like a ghost that only I could hear.

Alex: "Hey man you, ok?"

Ken: "..."

Alex: "Do you remember when me and Jay put you in that plastic sled and in that pond near our house, because we thought it would float?"

Ken: "..."

Alex: "Yeah and then it began to sink, and you started to cry *sigh* it was the same day you learned how to swim."

Ken: "..."

Alex: "Do you remember when..."

Ken: "Why do you think I'm here?"

Alex stopped and stared at me. His expression was unreadable, and he seemed to study me. "Dunno why is anybody anywhere?"

I gave him an unimpressed look and he shook his head in amusement, a smile creeping on his face. "There are some questions that will never be answered, and there are some that should never be answered.

I, like you don't know, but I'd like to believe that we are here to live. Shocker, right?

You could spend countless days thinking about the reason why, but you will most likely never find an answer. Most just live and try to live their best lives. Others try to find meaning like being leader or gathering wealth or helping the weak, but in the end we all live.

Some live amongst riches, others live in poverty. Some are born strong with God like powers, and others are born to never walk or talk.

Life isn't unjust, it's not tilted to favor one or the other...it's just life, it happens whether you like it or not. I don't know why you are here or why that entity did what it did to you, but that's life.

Some are given second chances and others are cut down long before they reach the start line."

Ken: "I see."
