Chapter 8

A scream.

"Shit!" Whistles Alanna. Damon shows himself outside

"Maddy,come".

She took my hand and dragged me towards my house. When we arrived, it was as if nothing had happened.

Jake's father was having a coffee with my grandmother and his friends were starting to take things in the kitchen.

But Jake was nowhere.

 "I'll find him. Alanna sighed as her father greeted her with a nod.

Am I the only one here who finds this weird?

"Leah, Jacob invited us to dinner tonight.It's a kind of welcome dinner in the neighborhood. Isn't it nice?"

"Yes, nice. Where is Jake?"I was curious to know where he had disappeared. One minute, he was fine and the next, he seemed ready to kill everything that stood in his way.This family was hiding something and it was only a matter of time before I discovered it.

No one was going to answer me?

 "Anyway, I'm going to take a shower."

By closing the blinds in my room, I turned on my iPad and connected it to my speakers. Music is another thing that relaxes me as much as the beach. Music was my escape. I increased the volume and pressed the play button. Ashanti's song «Dumb Ashanti» sounded in the speakers.

"Honey, I don't know why you treat me so badly," I sang as I began to undress. It was not yet noon and strange things were already happening. "You know I really love you, I can't deny it." The music also distracted me from what I was supposed to do. I undressed up to my bra and panties and entered my bathroom by turning on the shower. "Baby, why are you hurting me, leave me and leave me." I didn't know how to sing, but that didn't stop me from humming that. 

When the song ended, Tyga's Rack City appeared and I got carried away by the rhythm. I danced as if no one was looking at me. I was wrong. It's not Only when the hand on my shoulder made me jump one foot in the air.

"Alanna!" I shouted, slightly lowering the volume. "Why are you crawling?"I asked, my heart still beating in my chest.

"I'm sorry." She smiles, "I didn't want to scare you. You have a lot of movements behind you, anyway."

It was only then that I realized that I was still in underwear, and I took the dressing gown to put it on.

"You don't need to hide your body,Maddy!"She whistled just as my phone started ringing. It's weird, since the only person who called me was my grandmother and she was downstairs.

Looking at the caller's identification, my heart shuddered. Jude's name was blinking. I hadn't spoken to him since the day before I left. I still missed him. I straight up in bed and kept looking at the screen until the ringing stopped.

"Hey, what's the matter?" Asks Alanna while sitting next to me.

"Nothing, I'm fine." I put the phone on the bedside table and got up.

"You went from dance to frown in a few seconds. Who was calling you and why didn't you answer?"

"Just someone from my past." I answered by trying to give her a smile. The fact that he called me made me realize how homesick I was. I was not wrong, I missed my old life. I missed my friends. At home, everything was simple. This is not the case here.

"Boyfriend?"she asked.

Shaking my head, I pass a hand over my face.

"I didn't expect him to call me. We ended well, we agreed to leave what we had in Florida, but now I'm afraid something will go wrong.

"How long did you stay together?"

" A little less than two years. He is good, Alanna, he treated me well and I left him. I had no idea why I was angry. I knew I had to break up with him. Distance relationships don't work, well, I didn't think they worked. I couldn't stop him from finding someone else."

"Everything happens for a reason, Maddy" and I'm sure you'll find someone else. I know how difficult it is, even if I continue to sneak with him. It's his turn to sigh. "If Jake or my father discovers that I still see Damon, I will be like dead. So if you could keep to yourself what you saw today, I would be grateful."

"The lips are sealed." I smiled when my phone vibrated to tell me that I had a message.

"If it's your ex Maddy, maybe it's better for him to stay there. 

Do you want to go out later?Going to the movies or a club?" She smiles.

I had already decided not to answer Jude. It wouldn't do me a favor and I had to move on.

"Enter a club without an identity card?" I asked.

"You don't need identity documents when you are Jake Mackenzie's sister." she says with a laugh. You seem to need to let off yourself a little.

She was right. If I had to leave my past behind, it was time for me to start having fun and change a little.I had to build a new life here and I was going to start in style.

"Your father invited us to dinner tonight, how can we do it without getting caught?"

"Don't worry about that. Just put something smoked and let me take care of the rest. I'm going to send a message to Lacey to tell her to meet me there. You come to my house around seven o'clock with your grandmother.

Understood?

"Understood." I smiled. "Now, go out so I can take a shower." I turned the music back on and went to the bathroom. Tonight was going to be a good night.I already felt it.
