Waking Up

The night of terror ended.

Leaving the island of Barbados… devastated and in ruin.

There were only ashes and wreckage left.

Remnants of what used to be… the paradise island.

Rain was starting to regain his senses and slowly opened his eyes.

Praying that everything was just a mere nightmare.

Wishing desperately for a miracle.

That when he opens his eyes, everything will be back to normal.

'PLEASE! PLEASE!'

'MAKE IT ALL JUST A NIGHTMARE!'

Rain desperately thought.

[***_Vampire System is activated_***]

A voice in his mind suddenly informed him about the activation of the Vampire System.

Unaware of what was going on with his own mind and body.

Trying to wake up further.

His prayer seemed to be unanswered.

The lifeless body of the orphan children that Rain treated as his only family were revealed to him.

A horrible sight for anyone to behold.

There was nothing but the smell of death that lingers to ones senses.

And a deafening silence that makes one's mind insane.

Rain started crawling towards the nearest lifeless orphan.

It was a sickening moment for him.

As soon as he held the lifeless body of the orphan child, he looked around and checked if there could be someone who have survived the terror and horrifying night.

He slowly moved around as he tried to gather his wits.

Panic and desperation were pouring in Rain's emotions.

It was like a nightmare that he does not want to be in. He kept telling himself to wake up!

'WAKE UP!'

'WAKEUP!'

But Alas!

The image of the lifeless orphans were still there.

Cold …

Covered with blood …

Their fate was sealed by a bite mark which was apparent …

Tears started to fall.

Rain started to shiver and embraced the lifeless orphan within his arms tightly. A lifeless body coldly lying within in her arms.

"No! No! No!"

When Rain was about to break down, he remembered someone.

'ANGELO?!' he uttered.

He remembered that he made the young boy hide within the bush. A promise he made to him…

'I PROMISE, I WILL COME BACK FOR YOU!'

'JUST STAY HIDDEN AND DON'T COME OUT WHATEVER YOU HEAR!'

A sudden ray of light came rushing into Rain's heart.

Fear, desperation and panic left Rain's soul and he started moving.

Rushing back towards the location where he left Angelo.

He did not care what was on his path.

Only the thought of Angelo being alive resonated in his entire being.

'PLEASE BE ALIVE! PLEASE BE ALIVE!'

Repeatedly, Rain chanted in his mind.

[***Urgent! Energy is low. –Life Force– is at risk!***]

Rain thought he was just hallucinating now from the injury he received from the merciless bite of the vampire. He kept thinking maybe it was just due to loss of blood.

Heat of sun was radiating all over the place.

Every sun rays that latches on his pale skin felt like a pinching sensation around his skin.

It was tolerable but it felt like a new sensation for him which he has never felt before towards a ray of light from the bright sun.

Only the thought of Angelo came rushing into Rain's mind.

Distracting him from his sorrow and losses that he wanted to forget.

Forgetting the horrible night through his hope.

He was a little bit disoriented and starting to walk wobbly.

Despite feeling weak and pain all over his body, Rain kept walking towards the spot where he left Angelo and saw him hiding.

Familiarizing the last spot before he parted ways with the young boy.

He kept looking around.

The brightness of the sun and the weird loud chirping of birds were starting to annoy Rain.

He held on to the nearest trunk of coconut tree.

Sharp noise and severe dryness of throat were causing extreme discomfort to Rain. But, he kept his mind firm in finding Angelo.

"ANGELO! ANGELO! IT IS ME… RAIN!"

"YOU CAN COME OUT NOW… ANGELO!!" Rain desperately screamed.

Constantly screaming for Angelo's name could be heard all throughout the woods.

Only Rain's voice echoed all over the woods.

There was nothing else but the chirping of the birds and the loud desperate voice of Rain.

Calling for Angelo.

Among all the orphan children, Angelo was always clingy and kept following Rain like a shadow.

Angelo was also orphaned like Rain because Angelo's mother died giving birth to him while his father was considered dead after not returning from the Capital City.

The young boy's father informed the mother superior of the orphanage that he will come back within 2 months for his wife and child. He just had to secure some important stuff in Central Region.

Memories came rushing into Rain's mind on how much time he spent with Angelo while the little boy was growing up.

Rain had to keep reminding Angelo that his real mother was already in heaven because when Angelo was still an infant and toddler, Angelo thought Rain was his father.

Even though, the time came when Angelo accepted that Rain was not his biological father, Rain comforted Angelo most of the time and told him that he can always be his older brother.

They may not be brothers in blood but they can be brothers at heart.

Those moments were the happiest days of Angelo because finally he felt like there was someone who wanted him at last.

The young boy always have thought that his parents left him on his own because they did not want him.

His young tender age did not allow him to understand why certain things happen in real life.

It was Rain who made him see things differently.

That is why, hearing from Rain that he can be Angelo's older brother made him the happiest kid that day.

A gleeful laughter and eternal embrace was received by Rain.

'I love you Rain!'

'Yehey!! Rain- is officially my big brother!!'

'Of course! I will be forever, your older brother! You will never feel alone because you have me!' Smiling brightly at Angelo.

Rain kept reminiscing his joyful memories with Angelo while he kept looking and calling for Angelo in the woods.

Finally, Rain arrived at the spot where he parted with Angelo.

There was simply nothing around but only bushes, trees, and birds that would not stop chirping.

Rain started to breathe in panic.

"ANGELO !! WHERE ARE YOU? COME OUT NOW!"

Tears started to fall in his desperation.

There was this fear in his mind that he may find Angelo lifeless just like the other orphan children.

Rain saw blood on a trunk of the tree.

"ANGELO !!! WHERE ARE YOU?!!!" Rain broke down in tears.

Realization of losing all the people he cared for and loved in his entire life in just one night was unbearable.

Screams of loss and pain took over.

"AGHHHHHHH!! NOOOOO!!!"

Flood of tears kept falling.

And Rain's voice echoed all over the forest.

Rain looked at the blood of the orphan children covering his skin.

Around his arms.

He started rubbing it off hardly as he hysterically cried and broke down in agony.

Haunting screams of tears was resonating all over the place.

"Aaaaaaahhh!! Aaaaaahhhh!!!" Rain's senses were slowly disappearing from his misery until …

"Rain? Is that you?" a familiar voice came in.

Rain was not sure if it was real.

Or just a creation of his longingness.

Or maybe a fig of his imagination.

He could not comprehend what was real anymore.

Until the source of the voice was hesitantly checking on Rain from behind the tree.

After few moments, Rain felt a familiar warm embrace.

IT WAS INDEED REAL!

Rain gently touched and felt Angelo's body.

Then, it came rushing in.

That Angelo was still alive.

"You are alive!" Rain expressed his relief.

"You came back!" Angelo started crying while hugging Rain.

"Of course! I promised remember?" Rain wiping Angelo's tears.

As Rain wiped Angelo's tears, a new sensation was rushing all over his senses.

Thirst …

A thirst that Rain wanted to quench.

Rain was trying his best to get a grip on his senses.

Until a coppery scent of blood was starting to invade Rain's senses.

Angelo hugged Rain tightly while Rain was suddenly stunned from the new sensation trying to invade his own system.

"Rain… my knee hurts! I tripped when I stood a while ago." Angelo told Rain.

Internal battle ensued within Rain while he hugged Angelo tighter.

The coppery scent of blood just became more dominant in the air.
