Chapter 1 : Work, work and work.

Joshua's point of view

" How are the sales of the new product going ? " I look up at Olivia. " It is going on fine. I received a few more reports and they seem to be okay. There are some more strategies that we are working on. Hope they work ". She nodded and continued eating her lunch. I dig in too. Once we are done with the lunch, we walked out of the cafeteria and got back to work. The launch of this new product has brought a lot of work. There have been so many meetings and many new ideas to improve the sales of the products.

I finish work and check the time to see it is already 7. I groan. I am late again. I get up from my seat and stretch a little. I set my table neatly and leave the office. It has been too tiring recently. I go to a restaurant opposite our office. I finish dinner there and take a taxi to go home. As soon as I enter, I go to my room and then take a shower and fall on the bed. I want nothing but sleep. I only need my soft bed right now. I fall asleep as soon as I close my eyes.

I wake up to my alarm. I grunt and run a hand through my hair. I just slept and it is already morning and I have a long day to face. Ughhh!!! I get out of my comfy bed and get ready for the day. I look around my room to see if I took everything and walk into the kitchen. I put my bag on the chair and pick up a glass to drink milk. I quickly finish it and put it away. I look around and find an apple. I pick it up and walk out while chewing on it. I quickly get a taxi and go to office.

I take a deep breath and enter the doors. I greet our receptionist, Susan and walk to the elevator. I wait for it anxiously. I don't want to be late. Once the doors open, I get in and reach my floor. I greet my colleagues on the way to my seat. I quickly sit down and switch the PC on. I greet Olivia. " Morning ". " Morning ". She smiled and replied back. I greet the guy beside me, Eric. We share a fist bump and I turn to my computer to start with work.

Around 11, I hear Eric call me. " Joshua ". I turn to look at him. " Yep ". " We have a meeting. Come on ". " Now ? " He nods. " It's leader's order. Come soon ". I bite my lip thinking of it. I pick up a note book and a pen and walk to the meeting room. " Morning sir ". I greet our team leader, Brian. He nods with a smile and we all take our seats.

" So, you guys know about the new product that was launched right ? " We all nod. " The recent strategies we've applied worked well and now the sales are pretty stable. You guys can take it slow for now. We are lucky that this time it worked well faster than before and more efficiently than other teams. So congratulations to all of us ". We all clap happily.

" You guys can go home from today on time ". We all laugh. " So, I wanted to announce to you guys. Thank you for your hard work. And don't forget our party today ". We all cheer. " You guys can get back to work. See you at the party. All of you should be there ". " Yes sir ". " Thank you sir ". We all reply and leave the room. Woah ! Life has been so busy, finally I get to relax. We all keep chirping happily for the day because of the good news.

We all gather at a bar at night. I wear a pair of torn jeans with a shirt. I don't really dress up much unless necessary, so it is fine. Eric spoke up. " Sir, I heard that the next boss is going to be the grandson. Is it true ? " Brian takes a sip of his drink. " I heard it too. Even though it is true, there is no announcement about when he is going to start working. He studied abroad and he handles their business in other countries. He will come back and take over the whole business as the chairman, most likely, is what I know. But the exact time, even I'm not sure of it ". We all nod.

I think about it. A new boss? Our current chairman is an old man, but sharp and elegant when it comes to work. He always recognizes a lot of us and appreciates our work. Our team was praised by him quite a few times. He once praised me and said that he liked my work. I am really happy for the recognition I received. But it always means more expectations. So it is not a total good thing.

I push these thoughts aside. I am here to relax, so I am not going to think of all those. We all laugh away happily while chatting. It has been a while since we all got to gather like this. So we all had a really good time and enjoyed to the fullest. Some of them left to go for another round, but I wanted to sleep. So I bid them goodbye and took a taxi to go home. I was in no mood to shower, so I go to bed directly. I am not like this all the time, but once in a while, is fine. And tomorrow is Saturday. So I turn lazy.

When Joshua was happily enjoying the party, a guy in a suit observed him, drinking the whiskey in his hand. He smiled looking at Joshua. He watched as Joshua walked out of the bar. He also followed him till his house. He walked up to the door and a small smirk formed on his lips. He then walked back to be on his way.

A surprise is awaiting Joshua.
