68 SPOUSE OR KID

Anna could feel the fear creep up in her . Not because she was scared or anything but she knew what Vincenzo's parents wanted to tell him.

"Hey mum ",Vincenzo said and his mother couldn't help the chuckle that escaped her lips as she rushed to his side to hug him.

A nod sufficed between Vincenzo and his father . They never had a relationship and him being in a crash hadn't changed anything or made him love Vincenzo .

"Am okay mum ",Vincenzo said as she tried hugging his mum back .

He couldn't know what she was feeling though . Her heart had broken when he hadn't recognized her and told her she couldn't be her mother .

It was as if he had driven a stake in her heart .

"We need to talk ", Vincenzo's father said as he sat down .

You could feel the tension in the room as the two men looked at each other .

Vincenzo wondered what it was that had bothered his father that much that he was willing to have a sit-down with him.

"What is it about ?",Vincenzo asked him.

"It's about the company ",his father said and Vincenzo couldn't help the look on his face .

He thought the company was doing okay he didn't understand why they had to talk about it .

"The company is doing Okey last I remember so I don't understand why we're talking about it ",Vincenzo said .

"Have you seen the state you're in ?",his father asked him and the room was filled with an uncomfortable silence .

It hadn't dawned to Vincenzo how much his injuries had turned his life around .

He hadn't taken a second to think about the state of the company .

Everybody knew how he was doing and sooner or later the credibility of the company being able to function with a sick CEO would begin.

"Am doing okay the people shouldn't worry about the company ",Vincenzo said mostly trying to convince himself .

He didn't even believe himself . His whole body hurt everytime he tried to move . The pills they gave him for the migraines weren't working that well ,it even hurt opening his mouth to speak .

"You're not okay ,your skull was open a few days ago . No one can trust you to go back to work immediately they are going to use this against you .If you go back to work they will say you're not mentally fit to manage a company and that is what the tabloids are going to reference ", Vincenzo's father said and even though Vincenzo was in denial he knew that his father was telling the truth .

"They will use this to take the company away from you and before you know it they will have a meeting to vote you out as CEO . No one is going to take your side given the state that you're in ",his father said looking at him as if he was pitying him.

Vincenzo could t take the look on his father's face . He looked like he felt sorry for him and there was nothing he hated more than that .

"What do you want me to do about it ,you could t have brought it up unless you have a solution?",Vincenzo asked his father .

He hated to admit it but his father was right .

"We get ahead of it ,instead of them calling you ,turn it the other way round ",his father said .

"You want me to step down as CEO ?", Vincenzo asked him starteled .

There was no way he was going to step down as CEO . He was going to do whatever it took so that he could get better and still retain his position at the company .

"No I want you to me someone else as CEO ,you have the most shares you can do that . It will come down to a cute but I will make sure they get in ", Vincenzo's father said and Vincenzo waited for him to say who he wanted to be the next CEO .

He knew for a fact that it wasn't him. He had made it clear that he was tired of managing the company .

"Who do you want to be the next CEO ?",Vincenzo asked and apart if him was scared about the name.that his father was going to say .

"Anna ",he said and as vincenzo turned to look at Anna she didn't seem to be shocked . She had known all along .

"No way she has zero experience in this ,it's going to seem like a joke if I do that ",Vincenzo said and Anna felt like it had been a blow directed at her face .

How dumb did Vincenzo think she was ? Did he know that she had saved his business ?

"She doesn't to be the active CEO forever she can just be there till you get back on your feet . This is the only option that makes sense . Would you rather loose the company ?",his father asked him as he stood up .

Anna knew from the moment this conversation started that the old man wanted everything to go his way .

He wanted her to be the CEO and that was going to happen . He didn't care what the others thought of his choice .

"She doesn't even know a thing about the business not even any of our clients ",Vincenzo said looking at Anna and wondered why she would agree to such an absurd thing .

"You will be here to help her ,she's not taking the company from you . She's your wife that's the only person the board members are going to agree too .",he said sighing as he walked around the room.

"Incase of an accident or things like this the spouse or the kids take over the company and in this case you two don't have any kid so she has to take the company ", Vincenzo's father said and it hit Anna that they didn't know about Briana .

If they knew would it have changed their choice ?

"Okay then ,but I have to approve everything she does . She doesn't even have the right to make any decision without asking me first . I don't want her ruining things ",Vincenzo said not looking convinced that she could handle the task and he was right for thinking like that .

Anna wondered how she was going to tell.h.the shit show he had left in Mexico . How was he going to tell him their client had been killed ?

How would she tell him that they were now working with the man that both killed their client and almost killed Vincenzo ?

That was a topic for another day and today was not the day . She would just keep it to herself first .
