Why Do You Like Me?

"Why are you smiling?" Vanessa heard Alex ask, and her brows puckered in confusion. She hadn't been smiling, or had she? It took her will-power not to touch her face to confirm Alex's words.

She composed her face to fight back the blush of mortification threatening to warm her cheek. She lowered eyes away from his awkwardly piercing ones. "I wasn't smiling." She said, but she could tell Alex didn't believe her.

She shifted her eyes towards what he had on the stove, and Alex followed her gaze.

"Do you need help?" She asked, glancing back at him.

Alex shook his head, "No," and walked back to resume what he had been doing. "I have it all covered. It should be ready in five minutes." He said and turned back to the stove.

Vanessa looked over to what he was making. "What are you making?" She curiously asked, craning her neck to look past him.

"Breakfast." He replied with amused sarcasm.

Vanessa rolled her eyes. Of course she could see that.
