The baby's cry pierced the night air, filling the main hall of Rong Hua Dian with sighs of relief and laughter.
My vision was blurry, but I was still conscious.
My chest heaved after all the pushing, sweat pouring down my face.
Qin and Nian Qu were laughing and crying, watching over the mid-wives as they peered at the baby I had just birthed.
The mid-wives were yapping and yelping at each other at the end of the bed.
I had no energy left in me to look, in so much pain that I felt detached from my body.
Ears ringing, I heard Qin whisper something as she came over to my head.
"Congratulations, Highness," she was sniffling. "We have our first Princess."
My stomach swooped with the knowledge, but I could only nod once in answer.
"His Majesty is waiting outside, Highness. He wants to come in. He wants to ask you if you would be alright with it?" Nian Qu sidled up next to Qin, leaning over me as well.
