Hence, I will stick to the prompt of an overpowered female lead. This is my first werewolf novel and hopefully it would turn out great. Lilac’s Scent

Chapter 7

ALEXA ROHAN

I stared at the sun setting down by my side of the window on my way home.

Yeah, I'm coming home.

'home'

I know everyone is trying their best to lift me up for these past two years. Specially my Ma and Pa who's trying their hardest to give me a place I can call home, to give me a sense of belongingness.

But I'm dead, something in me died on that night.

Even if how Ma and Pa tried to be the best parents for me but they can never ever replace my Mom and Dad— no one can, ever.

Not like this sunset, this inspirational fire in the sky with its rays waving goodbye, where you know its leaving but have confidence that it will be back on the morrow — unlike my parents.

…my parents, who will never come back ever again, who were long been gone and long been turned to ashes.

[********]

When we passed the packhouse, I abruptly stopped the car.

"Gosh, Alexa!" Carmen complained as the seatbelt choked her.

"Why are we stopping?" she asked, whining.

I sniffed the air, "Don't you smell it?"

"Smell what?" she sniffed herself from her shirt to her underarms.

"Do I stink?" She added.

I sneered at her, "I smell lilacs."

"Lilacs don't grow around here Alexa," she pointed that fact.

Of course I knew that but it's definitely lilac's fragrance.

Then my heart pounded in a faster rate than normal— and Carmen obviously heard it with her werewolf sense.

Her eyes gradually widened and she gaped in realization.

"Your mate is here?" She gasped.

I tried to brush the thought away but my heart won't just calm down and Rieka, my wolf has been howling from joy in my mind.

'ugh'

~ mate is here ~

Rieka was howling it over and over.

I groaned and resume our ride and drop my friend to her house then I headed to mine.

[**********]

My Ma, Luna Rachel rushed to the front door to welcome me home.

Her loving smile warmed my almost stoned cold heart.

"Welcome home baby," she hugged me and I hugged her back.

Her warmth is soothing and she smells like my Mom, maybe because they are siblings.

And there by the kitchen, my Pa with his apron on, spreading his arms wide with a pouting lips.

I let a small laugh escape me.

'an old man trying to be cute'

If werewolves are to know that the Alpha of Noble Blood Pack, one of the feared Alpha's in the world, is pouting his lip like a child right now, they would think he's a softy and under the palms of my Ma and me.

I can't help but be melancholic whenever the thought of a child for them crosses my mind.

I have always longed for them to have their own child, their blood.

They had found each other when they were both twenty one but all these years, the Moon Goddess did not bless them with a child.

In this generation of werewolves, the bearing of a child seemed like a miracle.

It's seldom nowadays for a werewolf to be born.

Basically, my kind is in the verge of extinction.

And there is no such thing us convertion of a human to a werewolf through biting that's been written in human's folklore.

If a werewolf bites a human then that human dies— period.

'tsk'

Who would survive a long sharp ivory canine sunk in a human's throat?

'duh'

.. either the human dies of pain or blood loss— and that's it.

Anyways, way back when my parents are still alive, Ma and Pa has always been my second guardians.

So when my parents died, they took me in.

Another smile tugged on my lips as I walked and threw myself in the loving arms of my Pa and he squeezed me under him.

He's really sweet of a parent.

Then I smelled it— again, the lilac.

'damn'

.. the smell of lilac is in his shirt.

I pulled away my head a little, "Who hugged you before me?"

Pa's brows furrowed but answered anyway, "It's Alfonso."

"Who's that?" I asked, finally letting go from his hold.

I knew everybody in the pack, definitely no Alfonso.

"Why do you ask sweety?" he asked me curiously while sniffling his shirt.

"Nothing, just a smell of a stranger to me, " I feigned.

He held my hand and guided me to sit in the counter.

"Remember that friend I'd been telling you about?" He inquired.

I pondered then I remember the name, "The royal messenger?"

He nodded, "He's been with the pack for a month now."

"He's— blah blah blah,"

I lost it— my mind.

I could tell how enthusiastic my Pa's voice sounded as he speaks about his friend, Alfonso but my mind processed not a thing of what he's saying anymore.

Even Ma joined the conversation telling me about some daughter but I comprehended not a thing of what she's saying too.

My mind is muddled.

My thoughts ran like cheetahs and leapt like kangaroos— in every corner of my brain.

My hands got sweaty too and the muscles in my inner thighs trembled on their own.

I think the blood on my face left me that Ma and Pa threw me a worried look.

"You okay sweety?" Pa worriedly asked.

I blinked rapidly, "I think I need a rest Pa," I stood up.

I kissed Ma before heading my way upstairs.

I could feel their worried gazes that followed me up so I stopped midway.

"I'm okay, I'm just tired," I assured them.

"I'll see you tomorrow," then I resume my walk to my room.

I heavily slumped my body in the comfort of my bed, burying my face in it.

I felt like howling.

'oh Moon Goddess'

'How could you give me a mate over twice my age?'

[***********]

I woke up with dark circles around my eyes.

Who would not?

'ugh'

I headed downstairs after my morning routine and the smell of pancakes and beacon wafted my senses.

"Good morning Ma, Pa," I greeted and slid down on the chair.

Pa was on his newspaper while Ma was putting something in the oven.

"Good morning sweety," Pa greeted back.

I furrowed my brows after noticing the number of plates on the table— there are two added.

… but before I could ask, the front door flew open and Carmen walked in wearing her annoying grin.

She bowed to Ma and Pa, "Good morning my Alpha and my Luna."

"Good morning Carmen."

"What brought you so early dear?" Ma asked.

Then there and then, Carmen's smile widened and her eyes sparkling. I knew that spark— that's sparkling for gossip.

'ugh'

I eyed her to keep quiet but Carmen is Carmen— she's unstoppable.

"So who's your mate?" She asked excitedly.

'ugh'

'shit this girl'

I groaned when Ma and Pa threw me a puzzled, quizzical and inquiring look.

And again, before I could say anything, there walked in a man by the front door—

I gulped hard 'cause there it was again— I smelt it.

That particular scent— the lilac's fragrance.

'my mate'
