Chapter 44

OK, he had made a dump decision. Very irrational. Impulsive. Stupid. The decision he had made got him walking on the street 09:00pm with nothing but only his phone in his pocket. No money. No credit card.

Thomas had not anticipated walking out of the house at that time. He should have simply just walk in his room and not have to see his parents fight. Lock himself up till dawn.

Sadly, he had walked out the house, out the fence and into the streets not knowing where exactly he was heading to.

He finally got an idea. Jacob was his only hope, that is if Jacob was willing to defy his mother by helping him. By answering his phone first.

He called Jacob, but got only his voicemail. Jacob couldn't be at sleep, so Thomas left several voicemails and waited a while, standing in front a hardware store.

Ten minutes.

Twenty minutes.

Half hour.

One hour.

After not getting a reply from Jacob, he decided to walk to his house. It wasn't going to be a long walk. Jacob was only few miles away in his parents house, perhaps thinking about him.

No he wasn't.

Thomas reached Jacob's house, covering the few miles two hours on foot. He couldn't use the front door. Jacob mother had warned him to stay away from her son because of what was going on. He didn't have anything to do with what was going on. But she had told him that their entire family was facing a threat and didn't want her family to be dragged into it because of the relationship they had.

So Thomas had climbed over the fence. There was a dog, a black pit bull in the yard. But Thomas needed not to worry because the dog knew him even in the darkness. He crept his way to Jacob's window. The light was on.

The second climb he did was up Jacob's window. The window was still open. He slid the window up and crawled up inside the room, feeling at home.

The room was empty. Thomas assumed that Jacob was outside. He opened the room door an inch and spied outside the hallway. It was empty also. Like he had opened it, slowly, he closed it, and locked it again, and went back on the bed.

Thomas called Jacob phone. The sound of the phone was faint from inside the bathroom before his call was rejected, before he received the leave-a-message voice notification.

He got up and walked to the bathroom door. It was then he realised the shower was running. He opened the door, ready to talk to Jacob when he spotted two figures behind the heated bathtub glass. Hot steam covered the entire glass. He didn't fail to notice the back-and-foward movements.

He didn't say anything. There was nothing to say at the moment. He was speechless.

They stopped, the figures behind the door, making sure they weren't seeing a ghost. Then the glass door slid open. Jacob poked his head out.

"Thomas," he said, shocked, surprised and every word used to express shock. "What are you doing here," he asked, stepping out of the tub, leaving whosoever that was banging him horny.

Thomas walked out, followed by Jacob. Jacob was followed by Dax, the most homophobic person Thomas knew in the universe and multiverse. On top of that, he used to be a bully when they were in high school.

"I'm sorry," Jacob apologised. "I didn't mean for you to find out this way." He held Thomas hand.

Thomas wondered why all the drama was going on around him. He had ran away from his dramatic parents, looking for a safe place to be. Then the safest place he knew was where his boyfriend was being fucked by the school bully whom he had defended him from several times in high school.

Drama never seemed to go away.

"Find out this way?" He asked, hoping it wasn't what he was think. "What do you mean by you don't mean for me to find out this way?"

Jacob sighed, hanging his head. Dax came out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. He had heard the question clearly.

"Tell him, baby." He folded his arm and crossed his legs, and smirked the way he usually did when he was about to bully someone. "You said you would have told him, right?"

"I'm sorry, Thomas," Jacob kept apologising.

"What I need is an explanation of what the fuck was going on in there." Thomas gestured to the bathroom. "And what the fuck you meant by you don't mean for me to find out this way."

"Keep your voice down, Kitten, aunt Helen might hear your whining," Dax said.

"This is none of your business, Mr. Homophobic homosexual. Shut the fuck up," Thomas stated exasperatedly.

"What did you say, Kitten?"

"Both of you shut up, OK. Not another word from any of you," Jacob yelled at them. He was the one in the middle of that, so he had to speak.

"Then start speaking," Thomas said.

There was a paused for few minutes. Only the heavy breathing from them could be heard.

"I'm sorry, Thomas, I don't mean to hurt you like this. You know that I love you, don't you?"

"No, Jacob, you tell me. Why Dax? Of all people, why him? Remember he used to bully your ass at school. He called you faggot in front all his friends. He humiliated you. Have you forgotten all those terrible things he did to you?" Thomas wanted to force the memories back into Jacob's brain incase it had literally dropped out.

"He was jealous," Jacob replied. The question in Thomas eyes conveyed the message. "He loved me, OK? He still do. He was jealous that he couldn't be with me. He was jealous that I was happy with you instead of him."

"Is that the lie he has been feeding you with?" Thomas asked Jacob, glaring at Dax who stood like a model on a magazine cover.

"No. It is not a lie. Our parents know each other. He introduced me to his parents as his boyfriend, Thomas. Something you couldn't do. And guess what, they accepted me. My parents also accepted him," Jacob informed him, showing little bit of guilt.

"That's why your mother told me to stay away," Thomas said in a low, heartbroken tone. "But you love me, Jacob. I told you I was going to come out to my parents at the right time. We planned our future together." Now he couldn't stop himself from crying.

"No, Thomas, you planned your future the way you thought it was best. That's not the future I want." Jacob walked closer to him.

OK, so the night was just a crazy night. What worse could happen than his parents fighting, seeing his boyfriend get fucked, and being told in the face that he wasn't, literally, loved?

"I'm sorry," Jacob apologised for the third time.

"It's OK." He wiped the tears away, wearing a fake smile. "Better not talk about this. I'll leave now." A hot tear drop down his cheek when he turned around to go get out the way he had came.

"Where are you going?" Jacob asked him.

He didn't reply. He continued his journey through the window.

"Be careful, Thomas. Scy has pups. She's a different girl now," Jacob warned him.

He didn't care. He knew the dog was pregnant, but didn't know she had already given birth. It was much better. If Scy had puppies then she was with them at the moment. Puppies always need their mother.

"I always knew that guy was a Kitten. See how he climbed down that window." He heard Dax say before his feet could touch the ground.

He climb over the fence and walked into midnight silently. His vision was blurry. He kept wiping his eyes. He counted himself lucky that the rainy season was over, or he would have froze to death.

It could get extremely cold in Liberia during the rainy season. Sometimes the rain felt like ice dropping from the sky. Especially in October. A drop of rain would sting a person so hard that the pain would reach their heart.

He sat on the sidewalk and gave himself time to think. He composed himself then thought of where he was going to spend the night. He couldn't sleep on the street. He was the son of the senator of the state. Sleeping outside could be used against his father in the campaigns.

His father's oppositions would use that against him in various ways. He couldn't start counting them.

Thomas wanted to be far away from everyone at the moment. He couldn't go to Rachael's or Steve's house. His parents would find him quickly. He thought very hard then took his phone out. He went to contacts and strolled until he reached G.

The phone rang for a while before it was answered.

"Grandpa," he said in a try-not-to-cry tone. "I need your help."
