1 Chapter 1: Friends or Enemies

Hello my name is Kai I think. That sounds right. That's all I can remember at the moment. I have amnesia. I was on a beach when a couple of people seemed to know me. They said, "Kai! Is that you? Your finally home!" I looked at them strange because I didn't know who they were. I didn't talk to them because I was being cautious. "Don't you remember me Kai? I'm your older sister Rin." Said the woman. "That would make me your younger brother Elias." Said the boy. "What's wrong Kai? Can't you speak?" said Rin. I shook my head yes. She took one look at me and saw I was afraid. "Hang on lets get you home to mom and dad. Come on Elias." "Yes sister. You know you are so annoying." "It is my job as a big sister to be annoying." That's when my head started to hurt. "Ahh. My head." "You ok Kai?" "Yeah just a small headache." I said. I got in their car and headed to where they were going.

The drive took us 20 minutes then we came up to an apt. I looked at it and was confused but I followed anyway. Once we got in I sat down on the couch. "Mom, Dad we are home. Hello anyone home. Hmm. I guess they went out for a bit." said Rin. "So Kai feel like talking?" I shook my head no. "All right lets wait for mom and dad to come home." "He probably doesn't want to talk to you because you are annoying." said Elias. I chuckled a bit. "ha she seems like it." I said. I sat there silently until these people who I was told were my parents came home.

It was about 15 minutes later a couple that looked to be in their mid 30's early 40's walked in. "Kai? No way is this a dream? Hey honey pinch me I think I'm dreaming." said the woman who I assumed was mom. The guy pinched her and she looked at me again. "I'm not dreaming. Kai your really here!" She came over and hugged me. The others saw I was confused and the guy that looked to be my dad said, "OK honey that's enough. The kid looks confused." I finally spoke up and told them the truth. "I'm sorry but, I don't know who you people are? The only think I know is that my name is Kai and I was found at the beach coming out of the water by these two Rin and Elias." "That makes since." Said Elias. " You looked confused when you saw us too." Then Rin spoke. "Well as we said before I am your sister Rin and he is your younger brother Elias. He is one year older than you and I am 3 years older than you. These two people are mom and dad."

Mom and Dad so they say sat down by me and Mom said, " Is it true that you don't remember anything?" "Yeah. I only remember my name, waking up in the water and swam ashore until I met my brother and sister." "Well why don't you get some rest. You probably have had a hard day. Elias Show him the room." "Yes father."

Elias showed me to a room that had two beds. "As you can see we share a room. Sister has her own room." said Elias. "I notice you don't talk much. Are you usually this quiet?" I said curiously. "When I want to be yeah. I can be noisy too when I want to be. This is your side of the room. Your stuff is the same as you left it." "I left it? Where exactly did I go? What happened to me?" "You really don't remember do you?" "Sorry brother. No I don't." "Ha. Haven't heard you call me that in a while. It strangely feels nice to have you back. Well get some rest. Hopefully it will help you with your memory." "Yeah thanks." So I laid down and Elias walked out. I closed my eyes and tried to remember what happened.

"How is he Elias?" Said Rin. "Well he really doesn't remember what happened." "That might be a good thing. We sent him off for his own good but now he comes back. He could be in danger." Said Rin. "Relax Rin. Even if his memory does come back. We will protect him. We all will protect him with our life. He may not be blood, but he is still family. After all its not blood ties that make a family. Its those who care for you." said Dad.

It was finally morning I woke up and was confused at where I was. Then I remembered. "Oh yeah. I was taken in by people who said they were my family." I woke up with a little headache." Argh. My head hurts." Elia's was already up. He must have gone out already. There was a knock at my door. "Who is it?" I asked. "Its Rin." "Come in." She came in and sat down beside me. "So Kai. How are you feeling? Remember anything yet?" "Well I have been having headaches lately which I assume are memories trying to come out. I remember a little. The only thing I seem to remember is being on a ship of some sort. Maybe I was in a shipwreck or something." "Oh that reminds me. Mom and Dad said they wanted to have a family meeting when you are a little more awake. Come on out and have some breakfast. We are making your favorite. French Toast with hash browns and bacon." "OK I will be out in a bit." "OK then. See you soon." Once she was out of the room something felt strange. Its like when I see her I want to remember. Then I remembered she is my sister I shouldn't be having these thought's. I shook my head got dressed and headed out of the room.

"Hey mom and Dad. Look who finally woke up." Said Rin. "Oh Mornin Kai." said Dad. "Yeah I guess." I said. Then Elia's spoke up. " Remember anything yet?" "Elias its not the time to ask that. I'm sure when he is ready he will tell us." said Mom. "No its fine. He has the right to ask. He is my brother right? He is just worried about me. I do remember something. I remember being on a ship. I was thinking maybe I was in a shipwreck that caused my amnesia that's why I woke up in the ocean and swimming to shore." "That's good your starting to remember." Said Mom. Although I can see in her face she was hiding something. I just shook it off for now. I ate my breakfast and the family went to the living room to have that meeting.

"So Kai. I'm sure Elias told you that your stuff is as it was before you left." said Dad. "Yeah he did. So I really did leave on my own accord." "Yes. You did. You said there was something you had to do. You just couldn't tell us at the time but you would when the time was right." said Mom. "My head started hurting trying to remember. "Argh. My head hurts. Hmm." I was losing consciousness and the last thing I saw was my brother and sisters worried faces.

I woke up in a hospital wondering why I was there. I started freaking out. "What happened?! Why am I here?! I don't even know who I am!" A doctor came in and I calmed down a little. "What happened to me?" I said. "I am doctor Munch. I am the one who is attending to you. Your family brought you here to make sure you were ok. They were worried about you passing out." "Are they really my family? I don't remember any of it. Dammit! I wish I can remember what happened to me." "Relax Kai." Said Rin. Rin walked in and the doc said, "After I check his vitals I will leave you two alone." So the Doc checked my vitals and did as he said. Then it was just me and Rin. "Rin? I have a favor to ask. When I get out of here, I would like to go to the port. If I was really in a shipwreck I'd like to know what happened, where that important thing I needed to do was and if it was successful." "Mom might not approve, but you should be out in two more days if there isn't any complications. It will just be me and Elias. We think you should be able to get your memory back. They think it would be dangerous for who knows what reason? I will pick you up. Mom and Dad will be busy somewhere." "Thanks sister. Your a lifesaver. So those tests. How did they come out?" "Oh they saw the injuries you had as a kid on the scan but nothing that would harm your memory. They said it could be temporary or permanent. It just depends on you." "Thanks that helps a lot. By the way where is Elias?" "Oh he's at school. He is going to miss school when we pick you up. He told the principal he was dealing with a family emergency right now. I'm sure he will confirm it with mom and dad. Luckily I have the same voice as mom so they can't tell the difference." "Ha that's pretty cool. That could come in handy some day besides that I'm sure.

Hey Rin? I have had this feeling for awhile but I don't want to hurt yours or anybody else's, but I need to know. Are you...." Before I can say anything Rin answered my question. "Are we really your family right?" "Yeah sorry if it hurt your feelings." "No its normal to think that without your memory. Mom and Dad might not want me to tell you. I don't know Elias' thoughts but I'm going to tell you this much. Yes. We are really your family. Mom and Dad raised you as their own. We may not be blood, but you are still me and Elias' brother. I'm sure he will say the same. That's all I can say right now. I'm sorry." "Its fine. That's all I need right now. That's all I asked for. It's nice having someone who cares be there for you when you need it isn't it?" "Yeah it is. Especially in your condition." I was getting tired so I closed my eyes and I hear my sisters last words before I was in a deep sleep which were "Sleep well little brother. I will be back. I will save you no matter what?"
