The seven rules

The book was a bold blue cover and had one purple ribbon dangling down the hardback rim.

The ogre tugged at the ribbon and cackled malignantly at my weakness and clearly he wasn't backing down at the rain.

I rolled under his knees and ran into a dark corner at the end of the street and turned left onto a narrow road.I never saw the ogre again.

I don't know where I was going and I looked endlessly for help and my heart was sinking into a vivid blue as hope was not here, in fact it was never here.

I skimmed through the book finding a set of rules to own it and use it.

1. Don't want it, need it.

2. Don't take it to expect the best of it first ( don't judge a book by it's cover).

3. You need to be a reader and you need to be smart.

4. If you fail anything don't hassle ( try again).

5. You never have to risk anything yourself, leave the book on the floor and wait till your enemy touches it.

6. When you've killed your biggest enemy, burn the book.

7. As soon the flames crawl over the cover you forget all about it.

I was quite shocked and I peered at every rule very carefully.

All these moments of magic were things that defined me, things that I remembered and I was about to lose all that. The book made me a relentless reader and I realised I was so much more than I thought and I didn't see that.
