Intruders

Every time I tried to go talk to Anna, she was either cold or flat-out ignored me. It didn't matter how much Jaimie or I had explained the situation. She still wanted to go home or run away. I was at a loss for words and ideas. Not even Jaimie could keep an eye on her.

Three days went by, and I had avoided her at all cost. Giving Jaimie instructions to let her roam with him as a guard. Show her what was here, how different we were. Maybe she might warm up to the idea of being here. Jaimie had come in looking a bit upset after his time with Anna. "I hurt her feelings Alpha" Jaimie looked guilt-ridden. "How? Why? What did you do?" I was growling in the back of my throat Zavier already getting ready to kill him, Betta or not. "I told her the truth, and it hurt her. But I do love her like a sister….At the moment, Alpha just needs time to think things over. Please don't be mad with me," I Jaimie realizing the situation and understanding every little bit of it. "Go…be with your parents and have some time to cool off…You've done great as her protector and an Alpha" Jaimie walked off, leaving me standing there by myself. Shaking myself, I went back to the office. Having a whiskey for the day was already hard.

"Alpha!!! INTRUDERS!!!" I heard them all yell through the pack link. I jumped out of my window, changing midway. Enraged that someone had the audacity to cross my territory. "Where?" I ran already knew but needed to hear just in case. "South-East heading towards the north pack," I was already halfway there, already facing a threat. Heading towards, I heard the rustling and feet before I saw them. I stopped in my tracks. Furious at the wolf that stood before me.

"What are you doing?" She snarled at me, realizing I was in her head. "Running" My resolve not to strangle the she-wolf was becoming thin. It was like she was asking to be found. "You shouldn't be in your wolf in front of just anyone. It's not safe, Anna," I snarled back. I was her mate, whether she liked it or not. "Too many people are out to kill you! Why can't you get that through your thick skull!" Her ear flattened back against her head in recognition and sadness. "I'm sorry" Anna's voice was so soft I almost never heard it.

If I had to lock her up in the room dungeon or basement, I would do it if it meant she was safe. I dragged her all the way back to the packhouse. Not giving her day of thought. "I can walk," I growled in answer to her. Finally, in the room, I dropped her on the floor, walking to the bathroom ignoring her. I walked back into the room, finding her still in her wolf form, sitting at the end of the bed on the floor. "Just picture your human self, and you should change back easy" I stood standing watching as she changed back. "Why aren't you naked?" She shrugged; I was stumped to see her dressed. Even as an Alpha, I didn't have the power to keep my clothes intact or materialize them on me.

"Hasn't your wolf told you anything about your powers and the danger you are in" I wasn't even holding half my anger back, and she still slinked back. "Yes," I growled furiously with the notion she went for a run. "She said it would be safe," Anna bickered back. "Well, obviously not! As far as my back is concerned, you're still a stranger, other than Jaimie and me, that's all who know who you are and what you are" I could see the tears before she even started. "I never asked for your protection" my body went rigid and cold. "Well, that's just too fucking bad" I was on the verge of going crazy. I wanted to mark her there and then. But instead, I left. Running back outside, changing into my wolf, I left her alone and went for a run.

Not much could calm down Zavier and me. Anna wanting to be let go and defend herself. And my pack wanting a Luna and not realising the troubles we have ahead. Questions were being asked now just by having Anna here. They had a right to know, but to keep her safe, I had to have my pack in the dark. Before heading home, I checked everyone who was on patrols to see if they were at their post and not slacking. Once done, I headed home.

Before I knew it, two wolves were on top of me. "Alpha, half our men are down!" Jaimie yelled through the link. One had me by the left-back leg while the other had me by the shoulder. Ignoring the pain, I rolled, overthrowing them both off me. Back on my feet one by one, I snapped their necks. I growled as I called all enforcements. "All men out now for attention! We have rogues attacking. I want every soldier to be able to keep at least one rogue alive," Many answered back as soon as they could. "Jaimie, collect all women and children and take them underground…Make sure Anna is safe and goes with you" I didn't need to know he was already on to it before he answered back. At least I didn't have to worry about the ones who couldn't fight.

I didn't know how many men of mine were down, injured, or worse. But I dreaded the news one night was over. There were about twenty rogues attacking, no match for me or my pack. Five of them were left alive to be questioned. But why were there so many. It wasn't normal for rogues to be banned together but never this many. The larger the number, the more mouths to feed. It concerned, to the very least.
